There’s a new “interactive” rom-com on Netflix called Choose Love that was pretty silly but it’s based in LA and both name dropped and showed the observatory.

(we noticed it because the star used to be on a Disney show the kids watched and chose to watch because we wanted to see how the interactive part worked)

I'm flying to LA this week for work meetings. We're done on Friday at noon, but my flight doesn't leave until 10:10 PM. I think most other folks will be leaving earlier, so I think I'll have the afternoon to myself. I've never really spent any time in LA. Any suggestions for how to spend a few hours? My hotel is in Redondo Beach. Is the Griffith Observatory the place to go? Hollywood? Venice Beach?

Venice Beach is a cool place to spend a few hours. Very unique vibe to the place and great for people watching. Tons of restaurants, and nice to walk around. At least it was 4 years ago. Lots of homeless and open drug use, and I felt a shift as the sun went down. Still stayed for dinner and walked back to my Marina del Rey hotel.

Will you have a car at your disposal or will you be using ride share app (there's not a whole lot of stuff in/near Redondo)? If the latter, what is your tolerance for spending?

No car. So, I was thinking I'd Uber somewhere. I'll have to check out of my room, so I'll probably have to leave my bag at the hotel, do my thing, and then come back here to get it before I head to the airport. I'm thinking a nice hike or walking option would be good. I'm in my room and can see Rancho Palos Verdes to my south. That looks nice. Good hikes there? Keep in mind, I didn't really pack properly for that. I'll just wear jeans and a light sweater.

I would suggest just start looking at Palos Verdes Coastline Trail online and see what interests you in the area. There are some hikes along the beach, the bluffs overlooking the ocean, and a couple inland ones. I would guess the first two are flatter/less intensive hiking options.

I think I need to start assuming that when I don't understand a post around here, it's not that I'm missing some "inside joke" or something is going over my head and just ask WTF someone is trying to say. Because, I read this yesterday and thought it was the former and didn't want to ask.

Watching The Truman Show and at some point they show the huge dome where the show takes place and it’s right in the middle of LA and they show the Hollywood sign as they zoom out and if I have my geography right I think the observatory could still exist in that world even if everything north for miles(?) is gone.

Not sure if I missed one earlier because there has been a lot of LA footage, but about 27 1/2 minutes into The Greatest Night in Pop there was a shot of it.
