It's a little hard to believe there is a Christmas Day release about Aquaman, the punch line of superheroes for decades.

Napoleon was...ok? The battle scenes were incredible and the direction was awesome, but my buddy made a great point. The story is pushed along not by dialogue, but by the need to show more scenes of stuff happening.

Maybe it should go in the Confessions thread, but these movies bore the hell out of me. Saw the first one in the theater and fell asleep. Tried to watch the second and couldnt get into it. I tried to read the books before the movies came out, I think you have to read them as a kid to get into it.

Same. Was it Bill Simmons that years ago said, "don't take me to the forest"? I never got into GOT either.

GOT hooked me in. I was wavering at times season 1, but the final battle season 1 made me jump all in. Not usually into the fantasy realm, but it’s so good. OTOH, I was lost so many times, not remembering characters or facts necessary to fully understand. I read some group chat discussions and realized a lot went over my head. Maybe you need to read the book to fully follow.

I also co-sign the above.

I enjoyed GOT a lot. But, much more for the medieval stuff than for the fantasy stuff.

over xmas we do 3 straight nights watching the extended LOTR trilogy, the full 10+ hours and i think this'll be our 10th year doing it.

i can't wait 'til some significant other finally enters the picture and tries to break this tradition up. it'll be THE TEST.

Yeah, I agree with the notion that LotR fandom or enjoyment is probably linked to having read the books as a kid OR being a pretty big fantasy nerd. Seeing that trilogy come to life on the screen was pretty awesome and brought me back to reading late into the night with a flashlight under the covers.

I do think they did an incredible job creating the movie, it’s the actual story that bores me.

I didn't read the books until after I saw each movie. Exception was The Hobbit, which I read before i knew they would be making movies. Plus it takes like three hours to read.

Love Aubrey, but add Mad Maxes to my list of film series that I don't really enjoy. Perhaps I was too high when I tried to watch Fury Road, (and I also hadn't seen the earlier ones), but it just didn't do it for me, and neither does the Furiosa trailer.

I also thought it was Anna. The real mystery is whether she is hot or not. She was pretty at times in Queen's Gambit, and sexy in The Menu, but sometimes she looks like the classic green alien with a stick figure body and a big head with giant vacant eyes. Like here:

When "The Road Warrior" came out I saw it three times in a week. Still one of my all-time favourites. The first "Mad Max" was really good too. "Thunderdome" was - I thought - a franchise killer, but "Fury Road" was incredible. And that trailer gave my chills.

Haven't been in a theatre since the first Obama administration. That may be about to change.
