Just got back from seeing this and I co-sign completely. Lots of great acting but Daniel Craig was tremendous in his role.
Saw this with the fam last night. We absolutely loved it.

My wife and I both wondered why Chris Evans would've been in that role, which had us suspicious of his role in the plot. Not quite a spoiler, but kind of tilted the scales in his direction while watching. By no means a detraction from the experience, just something we discussed afterwards.

Loved the numerous somewhat subtle jabs at the elite... The fact that none of them could remember (or bothered to care) what country she was from.

My favorite line was (paraphrased) 'You can't kick us out of our ancestral home!' - 'You bought it in the '80's!'

I wanted to ask a few in my feed how they feel when reality tv hosts do the same thing just to see them contort themselves like Reed Richards.

No character has ever needed to be punched more in a movie that doesn’t get punched at some point than Ethan Hawke in Reality Bites.

I watched knives out. I loved it. Until they left the house. From that point on it was something less than good. Unimpressed. Don’t get the swamp love.

ETA: I told my youngest we would watch it later again since he couldn’t tonight so maybe I missed something. I’m open to being wrong since people I respect liked it but I just thought It fell apart late.

I have rewatched and I think I can articulate my gripes. But tomorrow. Not now. Spoiler: my opinion improved slightly.

Ets: it’s actually one gripe that manifests itself multiple times.

Little Woman is really good. Hopefully Greta Gerwig, Saoirse Ronan, and Timothee Chalamet keep making movies together for a long time.

I'm a little late to the game, but, yeah, really enjoyed this movie.

Pro tip: My wife and I treated it like it was a 3 part mini series, watching it 1 hour at a time for three consecutive nights. Really enjoyed the experience. I can tell you, there's no way she would've sat through that in one sitting. I'm not sure I would've enjoyed it in one sitting (maybe), but I know most people aren't up for a 3.5 hour movie.

I know that's not a novel opinion, but it was stunning in its length, IMO.

Wife and I are on a bit of a mission to try and see a batch of Golden Globe/Oscar movies the next few month.

Seen
Knives Out
Irishman
Marriage Story
Once Upon a Time

Making plans to see
Parasite
1917
Joker (On Demand)
Little Women

Might not make the cut
Jojo Rabbit
Ford v. Ferrari
Pain and Glory
Bombshell
Harriet
Judy

Also going to see the new Star Wars, because fuck all of you nerds that hate on everything, I know I'll enjoy it.

I'd say that this an overly friendly Star Wars board compared to the rest of the internet.

(I know I was critical of the latest, but I also know I will watch it 10 more times in my life probably. )

Yeah, it's really more a general / very personal comment. My son refused to go, bucking a quasi-tradition we'd established of seeing whatever SW franchise vehicle was available over the holidays. They fucked us with Solo, but for a number of years they came out over the holidays and we'd go to the fancy theater and see it. Pissed me off.

But, also, critics and uber nerds have been shitting on the franchise long before Disney took it over and I'm just tired of it. I get hating on Phantom Menace, that shit is putrid. 2 and 3 aren't great, but they're not horrible. But the recent movies have all been pretty entertaining. Just no pleasing people when there are so many Comic Con-type people vested in a franchise.

It's a bit old, but A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is pretty fantastic. Beautiful horror movie, though not gory at all.

On of the jarring things is that you hardly see anyone other than the few main characters. There's one party scene, but mostly it's just the main characters alone or together on screen. Nothing even in the background (mostly)

The Aretha Franklin gospel film Amazing Grace is sloppily shot, and a bit of a mess visually, but holy cow, it is great.

Her voice is just incredible.

I liked it a lot. De Niro was good and the de aging stuff wasn’t as distracting as I thought save for some short periods.

I think it's these alternate history movies that take some time to coalesce in my brain. I thought Dicaprio and Pitt were really good, even if it felt like Pitt was reprising his role from the Ocean's movies a bit.

It's definitely a slow burn for an hour or so. I think I got re-excited about it, after listening to the Ringer's "Big Picture" podcast about it.

Not reading the spoiler, but I was very much that way on Basterds as well. Christoph Waltz is incredible in that movie, as is Pitt.

I loved "Inglorious Basterds," and liked "Django." But "The Hateful Eight" pissed me off so much that I have no further interest in Tarantino's movies.

I've seen a lot of takes that The Hateful Eight is terrible and I just don't get it. I like it better than the Kill Bill movies, which are my least favorite Tarantinos.

Pulp Fiction
Django
Reservoir Dogs
Inglorious Basterds
Jackie Brown
OUATIH
Hateful Eight
Kill Bill 1&2

Note: I still enjoyed the Kill Bills, so the floor is pretty high in this ranking.

Mostly about gratuitous violence (even for tarantino) and the completely unredeeming character of every person in the room. The over the top woman beating doesn't do it any favors.

Also it's a b-movie story that runs nearly 3 hours.

I found it to be almost a parody of tarantino's better movies.

Have been reading about Turturro talking about this for a few years. Last I read the Cohens were not endorsing it but also gave Turturro the green light to use the character and get the movie made.

Watched The Two Popes. Watching it now it definitely has a Kobe feel about it where it’s glorifying the good and margininilzing the bad. Which is probably worse for a movie than instant reactions regarding a celebrity death. Cause there is more intentionality.

However, Pryce and Hopkins were both great. Ymmv

We went and saw 1917 yesterday (instead of watch the Game...good choice. There was a grand total of 6 people in the theater). Super great movie...really well done. The 'tracking shot' stuff was distracting at first, but once the mission got started, it became less so.

Saw 1917 and echo everyone's thoughts. Beautiful shot and edited. A little slow but the tension building up as they went made the slow parts ok.

I watched Hell or High Water on Netflix this weekend and thought it was really good. Had a strong No Country For Old Men vibe, without being quite as dark (or as good, which isn't an insult).
