Bottas out of the race also after pit issues.

Crazy bad luck for LeClerc and Bottas, although Charles' was a bit self inflicted. Also, WTF Travzilla? You're the Lewis Hamilton of the fantasy league.

Indy 500 needed a Netflix series. This race is more exciting than any F1 race this year by a long shot. And I’ve been watching the Indy 500 since Emerson Fittipaldi and Arie Lyundyk have been duking it out.

Great last 10 laps or so. Only starting watching after Rahal wrecked. Exciting finish.

I remember as a kid listening to the Indy 500 on the RADIO!!!! The glory days of AJ Foyt, Al and Bobby Unser, Johnny Rutherford. (For some reason, it wasn't shown live nationally...it was on tape delay in the evening).

Is it still shown on tape delay in Indiana? I remember when I lived in Bloomington (early 90's) it was shown in the evening locally. The family that owned the Speedway (the Hulman-George family) said that live TV would depress the in-person attendance.

I used to play a Strat-o-matic type of game with Indy drivers. Put some respect on Gordon Johncock’s name.

As far as I know it is still blacked out in the Indy market. I am able to watch live up here in Elkart.

it was shown live in Indy yesterday. hoping that last year and this year are the leadup to them getting rid of the blackout for good.

we did an Indy 500 lottery again and it's fun -- and need to do it for more big races. We had 11 in it, so each person randomly got drawn three different drivers. Winner got $150 and last place got his/her money back along with a couple more payouts.

Second race in a row with a red flag on the final flying lap giving Leclerc pole. At least this time he will be able to race. LEC-HAM-VER should be a great battle. Looked like Gasly was going to do something special on that last lap, was really hoping for him to get onto the front row.

Didn't get to watch, but was able to listen. So many red flags. I think each of the Qs had at least one red flag. Really excited for the race tomorrow.

Entertaining race today, I thought. That Hamilton brake lock up on lap 51 was nuts. He nearly passed Perez. Went from almost 25 points to 0.

Verstappen takes the pole for tomorrow’s race. Hamilton and Bottas take p2 and p3. Apparently his last lap was ridiculously fast.

Max and Hamilton on Row 1 (Max with P1)

Lando and Perez on R2, with Bottas serving a 3 grid penalty for shenanigans in the paddock. Gasly joins Bottas in R3.

Tomorrow is going to be pretty great... I predict at least two safety cars, as this track has a number of spots that encourage overtakes, but with not a lot of run to make the move.

Still about 70% chance of thunderstorms around race time, could be a crazy one.

I only care about him because he's Canadian, but I'm really starting to feel bad for Latifi. 3/1000th off Q2 last week, just about as close today. Set the cutoff marker at the end of Q1 today then on the end of his final lap ran into the train of people lining up to start theirs. Really hope he can show some progress this year and Williams gives him another shot next year (I assume they will given they'll probably lose Russell to Mercedes and Latifi comes with some serious family money).

For a track that wasn't supposed to have a lot of opps to pass, lots of racing today.

Huge bummer for my fantasy team. I had Ocon, but Lando and Perez being out, and what happened to Max, really fucked me.

I'm convinced that Merc got into RBR's head after Silverstone and that's sure as hell not going to be any different going into the summer break now

I joke, but that's the move that gets BOT an extension. if you're gonna screw up, might as well take out both RBR cars when you do it

Yeah, obviously you don't put any intention on that, but... hoo boy, that was a real dagger for a lot of guys trying to maintain/earn points. The fact that Lando got caught up in it is kind of being underplayed. He was in a position to be a real problem for both top teams... again.

Looking back, it's kind of nuts they started that race on time, given that the track dried up so quickly. Would have been a much different race without 6 driver going out so early, and Max not sustaining all of that damage.

Anyone else pick up on how bad Lewis looked in the post-race interview and on the podium? The podia always seem dangerous to me, with such a low or non-existent barrier, and Lewis looked like he was about to pass out up there.

Super hot... Vettel had to be given treatment, as well.

And, I'm just reading now that Vettel was DQ'd because he couldn't provide 1L of fuel after the race.

fuel = pee?

It seemed like both he and Ocon ran out of gas. Surely they didn't get DQ'd?

Just read the article on it. I suppose there's reasoning behind that rule, but damn if that doesn't totally suck for him. He and Alonso (and Ocon and Hamilton obviously) ran such good races.

Also, I can't tell if Alonso driving right next to Ocon in the lap after the race, and waiting for him near the interviews, was just pure enjoyment for Ocon or if there was also a component of "I did this for him" with all of his fantastic late race laps of holding off Lewis. To be honest, I don't really care. He deserves a fuckton of credit for his work holding off Lewis.

Alonso with Driver of the Day and full acknowledgement from everyone that he pretty much gave Ocon that win.
