Draw another goblet
From the cask of '43
Crimson misty memory
Hazy glimpse of me
Give me back my wonder
I've something more to give

Two albums have really struck chords with me during this divorce. Avett Bros., "The Carpenter" when I'm feeling down, or Jack White's "Blunderbuss" when angry.

There's no fortune at the end of a road that has no end.
There's no returning to the spoils, once you've spoiled the thought of them
There's no falling back asleep, once you've wakened from the dream
Now I'm rested and I'm ready, I'm rested and I'm ready to begin.

And she don't care what kind of wounds she's inflicting on me
She don't care what color bruises she's leaving on me
She's got freedom in the 21st century.

(and of course...my current signature...)

Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you

The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was
The low spark of high-heeled boys

I sometimes forget, Jim Capaldi was one hell of a drummer (as well as not a bad lyricist/sometime vocalist, in a band that included Stevie Winwood). I just listened to some Blind Faith (Ginger Baker), immediately after the above album. Lots of similarities.

I'm hoping you watched that video that I posted in the spins thread. Evidently one of the few filmed performances of this...and a fantastic version at that.

The whole Barleycorn album is awesome. I used to play that over and over in college (and I wasn't even high/drunk). Good quality vinyl too; 40 years later, still sounds great.

I am the sexy girl,
I like when you fuck me well.
You are come back for me,
so tell me why that can't you see.
My body, my pussy,
my ass and my mouth.
All it's waiting for your fuck,
for your fuck

Be thankful I am sparing a link to the song. It is worse than the lyrics. Without looking, I'd give it a 95% chance this is straight out of Russia.

With a growing sense of dread
And a hammer in my head
Fully clothed upon the bed
I wake up to the world
That lately I've been living in

There's a cut upon my brow
Must have banged myself somehow
But I can't remember now
And the front door's open wide
Lately I've let things slide

Some people say that a preacher won't steal,
but I caught one down in my cornfield
What's the matter with the mill?
Done broke down.
What's the matter with this mill?
Done broke down.
I can't get no grinding,
tell me what's the matter with the mill.

Who wants to lick my balls
Pull out my gun and shoot people in the face
Yeah what now, motherfucker my name is GREG

Fly away eagle, before you get fucked in the beak

I remember how the darkness doubled
I recall, lightning struck itself
I was listening, listening to the rain
I was hearing, hearing something else

Life in the hive puckered up my night
The kiss of death, the embrace of life
There I stand 'neath the Marquee Moon
Just waiting...

"So you are my daughter"
Well then maybe we've got something to talk about

In preparation of seeing Todd Snider and the Hard Working Americans tomorrow:

B-double E double R U-N beer run
B-double E double R U-N beer run

all we need is a ten and five-er,
a car and key and a sober driver.

B-double E double R U-N beer run

A couple of frat guys from Abilene
drove out all night to see Robert Earl Keen
at the KPIG Swine and Sworea Dance.
They wore baseball caps and khaki pants.
They wanted cigarettes, so to save a little money they bought one off this hippie that smelled kinda funny.
And next thing they knew they were both pretty hungry and pretty thirsty too

B-double E double R U-N beer run
B-double E double R U-N beer ru-unn

All we need is a ten and five-er,
car and key and an able driver.

B-double E double R U-N beer run

They found a store with a sign that said
their beer was coldest.
So they sent in Brad 'cause he looked the oldest.
He got a case of beer and a candy bar, walked over to where all the registers are
laid his fake I.D. on the counter top.
The clerk looked, and turned to look back up and stopped.
He said "Son, I ain't gonna call the cops, but I'm gonna have to keep this card"
the guys both took it pretty hard.

B-double E double R U-N beer run
B-double E double R U-N beer ru-un

oh how happy we would be-
had we only brought a better fake I.D.

B-double E double R U-N-beer run

They met another old hippie named
Sleepy John, claimed to be the one from the Robert Earl song.
So they gave him all their cash-he bought em some brews.
Was a beautiful day out in Santa Cruz
They were feelin' so good it shoulda been a crime.
The crowd was cool, and the band was prime.
They made it back up front to their seats just in time to they could sing with all their friends "the road goes on forever
and the party never ends".

car and key and a sober driver.

ah, very nice one. I can hear the dueling guitars intro w/o even cueing up the record…

He said, "Look here Junior
Don't you be so happy!
And for God's sake
Don't you be so sad"

During my run, my ipod threw out these two songs back to back:

'Cause there's no comfort in the waiting room
Just nervous pacers bracing for bad news
And then the nurse comes round and everyone will lift their heads
But I'm thinking of what Sarah said that "Love is watching someone die"

So who's going to watch you die?..
But I'll, I'll kiss your head
When death finds your bed
And you are gone

Luckily they were followed up by "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and any momentary concern I had floated away.

Somewhere downtown a pretty girl kneels
Offers her soft lips and a handful of pills
Peels off her dress and then the rest of her skills
It buys what she wants and the rest she just steals

He speaks between deep swallows of rum
While her head is beating like a big bass drum
And she wishes he were mute and not just dumb
When the trick asked her quick, "Did you come?"

It’s a drag
Saluting that starry rag
I'd rather go blind
For speaking my mind
Or use it just like a gag
So raise it in anger
Just let it hang
American gangster time
Committing the perfect crime
In American Gangster Time

Dedicate a life to the dying breed
Throw a punch into the face of vacant leaders and leave
Chloroform the singer who has nothing to say
Stare and wonder as the masses sing along anyway
Pull apart the actors pretending to grieve
They never went to the funeral and they never believed

Some of these women they just give me the creeps
I'm avoidin' the south side the best I can

Could it be a sin?
I got stopped by the immigration man

Let me in

Can I cross the line and pray
I can stay another day
Let me in immigration man
I won't toe your line today

Another hippie tune

Almost cut my hair
Happened just the other day
It's gettin' kind of long
I could've said it was in my way

But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it, yeah
To someone

Well, must be because I had the flu this Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
Oh, this increases my paranoia
Like looking in my mirror and seeing a police car

Well, I'm not giving in an inch to fear
You know I've promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone
Oh ... like I owe it to someone

Just the mood I'm in...
Tried to save the trees
Bought a platsic bag
The bottom fell out
It was a piece of crap

Saw it on the tube
Bought it on the phone
Now you're home alone
It's a piece of crap

I tried to plug in it
I tried to turn it on
When I got it home
It was a piece of crap

Got it from a friend
On him you can depend
I found out in the end
It was a piece of crap

I'm trying to save the trees
I saw it on TV
They cut the forest down
To build a piece of crap

I went back to the store
They gave me four more
The guy told me at the door
It's a piece of crap

As a companion piece to Piece of Crap:

You twitch in your seat 'cus you wanna hit the street when you're
On drugs
And you cause such a fuss 'cus there's no one you can trust when you're
On drugs
And the best of your days will all vanish in the haze when you're
On drugs
And you wish you could quit 'cus you're really sick of it but you're
On drugs
Give it to me

And I don't love Jesus
He never done a thing for me
I ain't pretty like my sister
Or smart like my dad

It's money that I love
It's money that I love

They say that money

Every thousand years
This metal sphere
Ten times the size of Jupiter
Floats just a few yards past the earth
You climb on your roof
And take a swipe at it
With a single feather
Hit it once every thousand years
'Til you've worn it down
To the size of a pea
Yeah I'd say that's a long time
But it's only half a blink
In the place you're gonna be

Where you gonna be
Where will you spend eternity
I'm gonna be perfect from now on
I'm gonna be perfect starting now
Stop making that sound
Stop making that sound
I will say I forgot it
But it was only yesterday
And it's all you had to say

A smoky long black cadillac, the engine's winding down.
He'd park it up on the sidewalk, like he owned the whole damn town.
I hear him talkin' to some chick, through a thick ghost of smoke,
through a thicker haze of Southern Comfort and coke,

He say, 'Girl you're hotter than a hinge hangin' off the gates of hell.
Don't be afraid to turn to me, babe, if he don't treat you well.'
And by he, he meant me, so I laughed and I shook his hand.
He'd laugh a little bit louder as he'd yell up at the band:

'Play a train song, pour me one more round,
make 'em leave my boots on when they lay me into the ground.
I am a runaway locomotive, outta my one track mind,
and I'm lookin' for any kinda trouble that I can find.'

I got this old black leather jacket, I got this pack of Marlboro Reds.
I got this stash here in my pocket, I got these thoughts in my own head,
the right to run until I gotta walk, or until I got to crawl,
this moment that I'm in right now, and nothing else at all

Play a train song, pour me one more round,
make 'em leave my boots on when they lay me into the ground.
I am a runaway locomotive, outta my one track mind.
and I'm lookin' for any kinda trouble that I can find.

In the television blizzard lights, I looked around this place.
I found a cold beer on the sofa, a little smile across his face,
and though I tried with all of my sadness, somehow I could not just weep
for a man who looked to me like he died laughin' in his sleep,
sayin' a train song, drinkin' one last round.
We made 'em leave his boots on on the day they layed him down.
He was a runaway locomotive out of his one track mind.
lookin' for any kinda trouble that he could find.

Sadie got a sixgun, she ain't afraid to use it.
The banker took us straight down, to the safe and I blew it.
Sheriff heard a big bang, in the broad daylight.
But by the time the smoke cleared, we were nowhere in sight.

Sadie got a Mustang, an ol' '64.
Sadie got the top down, and her foot to the floor.
Lights in the rear-view, got the fuzz on our tail.
Better gimmie that shotgun baby, I ain't goin' back to jail.

Sadie got a hideout, off of 71.
We'll count up all the money, ditch the car and the guns.
Sadie say she loves me, I'll always be her man.
I'll see you in Rio honey, we gotta stick to the plan.

I woke up in a hayloft, to the rooster's crow.
No sign of Sadie, no sign of the dough.
I'm headed to the airport, I got a little brass key.
I got a ticket and a passport, locker 32-B.

Open up the blue box, there ain't nothin' in sight.
I been played like a fiddle. I been taken for a ride.
Sadie made a phone call, in the middle of the night.
They got the place surrounded, with the black and whites.

I got myself a hostage, in a Delta skirt.
Do as I tell you, and nobody gets hurt.
Show me where your car's parked, you gonna have to drive.
Cause I'll be hidin' in the backseat, with a .45.

Get me through the roadblock, you gotta drive real slow.
Better play your cards right, and I'll let you go.
And I hear my heart a'poundin', just as fast as it can.
I hear the copper askin', "Have you seen this man?"

Delta kept her mouth shut, like a good girl should.
And you're free to go now, cause you done real good.
Now I got a suitcase, and my thumb in the air.
I don't know where I'm goin', and I don't really care.

Bubba got a big rig, and an empty seat.
"I'm headed to Laredo", that's alright with me.
I'll check into a hotel, in old Mexico
I gotta wait until it cools down, I'm gonna lay real low.

Well I don't miss the money. I don't miss the guns.
But I sure miss Sadie, even after all she done.
Sadie left me hangin', and she told a lot of lies.
But it's true what they say boys, true love never dies.

Cause of tomorrow:

I'm a homeless man with my thumb in the wind
I sure miss my kin but then again,
I'm on the road with a song for you.

I took a step, I lost a bet,
They cut off my tongue now they're full of regret,
Careful what you say if they ain't gonna listen anyway.

Just make the cash, bet on the past,
Everybody's so afraid to be last,
You can't take back everything you leave behind.

Is everybody so ashamed, for letting it all slide.
Is everybody so afraid, Mr. Dylan's hard rain was fair warning.

On a shake down in the alley,
Breaking people's faces gonna start you up a rally,
I've never seen a day in the sun with gun,
That's loaded for you.

There's some hippies, in the back room,
Rockin' and a rollin' and a smoking to an old tune,
Someone took a guitar and a match, and set peace on fire.

Hey my brotha, what is wrong,
You lost all your money on the corner rollin' bones,
Give him your cash motherfucker, he's too fast for you.

Is everybody so ashamed, for letting it all slide.
Is everybody so afraid, Mr. Dylan's hard rain was fair warning.

On the T.V. there's a white man,
Too much make up on his wife with God's plan.
I guess the religious vote, made it to Congress.

On the border of Tijuana,
People are growing truck loads of marijuana,
Maybe someday our friends will be American farmers.

There's a necklace, in the south,
A few hopeless people still hanging it around,
The wind's gonna cut you down, in the long run.

Is everybody so ashamed, for letting it all slide.
I won't be afraid, Mr. Dylan's hard rain cause it's boiling, fair warning.

So can we save us, from today,
The hands of the wretched are the ones getting paid,
Everything stays the same, if you don't change it.

And all the dreams will bust at the seam,
It all goes down in the mighty machine,
You don't care now, but someday you might need it.

I heard the whistle, start to blowin'
Then I saw the mountain in the back come tumblin'
Everybody's wishing they could get out of the way,
Everybody's wishing they could dig their ass out of the grave.

I'm black and blue and bruised all the fucking time.
Why should I fucking care for you?
I've been with you in the morning for the last time.

I'm not as happy as I once was to see you,
