I only know a handful of poets, but I had no idea he was from the midwest. I vaguely recalled he was born American and emigrated to London.

I had the right idea, but guessed the wrong state. BTW, that's one of those pieces of trivia that you only know because you've heard the trivia (given as a trivia question), or you just guess right. There's no other reason to know that.

I think the 1780s thing is supposed to help you guess the right answer from a "barely post-colonial" angle, but it's not a big help if you haven't already narrowed it down in some other way first.

Nope. Tied for the lead, betting it all is the proper bet, unless it is a category you are very weak. You have to assume you will get the final question correct, because the final question is more often than not answered correctly by one or more players.

Betting one dollar less than everything when you are tied for the lead is an incredibly dumb bet.

Exactly right about 'Dominion'. Speaking of ODU, I didn't know until yesterday that Justin Verlander is an alumnus; I knew Dave Twardzic and Kent Bazemore, as well as Nancy Lieberman. Oh, and Carl Sandburg, but I remember seeing him on video, and he did not have a Brit affected accent.
