Yeah, it's pretty perfect. I actually had Leroy Jenkins flash through my mind as he charged to get to Rickon.Jerloma wrote:Aaahhh...that's pretty fucking funny in context then.

LEEEROY JENKIINNS or "repeating of course"
Cause the former is a go to for me. Kills at the diving board.
You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.
Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
Leeroy Jenkins has been a thing for a very, very long time. It was definitely adopted in military circles (along with "Fuck it! We'll do it live" and "it's the juggernaut, bitch" amongst other phrases) because many military members are nerd gamers and World of Warcraft was played by so many people on deployments. Plus, we all have that guy in our unit that just goes rogue for the fuck of it.

Who were those random kids? I completely missed/forgot their previous usage in the season.
Does Westeros have some sort of Viagra?
And finally...R+L=J is canon. Funny how just after that we hear Lady Mormont talk about Ned Stark's blood running through his veins. She's kinda right, but not really.

OK, as much as I've bitched about parts of this season, they stuck the landing there. Best episode of the series in a long while.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
A couple of random questions ...
1. I was distracted during part of the buildup to the Great Sept exploding. Did that one kid lure Lancel into the tunnels for some reason? Or did Lancel see the kid and follow him in there? Watching it, I thought the kid was luring Lancel in, but that didn't make sense to me.
2. Was the burning of Shireen just a plot device to send Melisandre south, where she presumably will join up with Dany and Tyrion next season?
3. In hindsight, it looks like this whole season was mostly a bridge to get everyone from where George RR Martin left them at the end of his last book to where they need to be for the story to be resolved. And to get rid of the characters that won't be involved in the last season.
4. I assume by now that you have all read the various "King's Landing" jokes on Twitter?

On point one it looked like it was not intended that Lancel follow, but maybe it was, dunno. I would guess that not intentional as he almost blew out the candle, which would have foiled the plan.Steve of phpBB wrote:A couple of random questions ...

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
I'm guessing Melisandre will die soon in the books, but the show is just looking for a way to keep her around because she (and her boobs) are popular with the audience, and will figure out what to do with her later.Steve of phpBB wrote:2. Was the burning of Shireen just a plot device to send Melisandre south, where she presumably will join up with Dany and Tyrion next season?
Agreed. Even though the show has been past the books for a while, the plotlines were mostly educated guesses based on where things were heading. They'll be in completely uncharted territory going forward, basically fan fiction with a huge budget.Steve of phpBB wrote:3. I don't know. She never left the Wall to head south with Stannis in the books, right? (If I'm right, then as an aside, why was that again?) Anyway, I think that the showrunners said last season that the Shireen burning came from GRRM, so I'm not sure how she'll get involved with that as everything stands in the books, and if she's not involved with that what reason will JS have to send her away once she (presumably) resurrects him?Johnny Carwash wrote:I'm guessing Melisandre will die soon in the books, but the show is just looking for a way to keep her around because she (and her boobs) are popular with the audience, and will figure out what to do with her later.Steve of phpBB wrote:2. The episode was great overall, but that opening through the explosion at the Sept of Baelor and Tommen's trip out the window. Holy shit. Holy. Shit.

Amazing episode, top 5 for sure.
I'm wondering if Jorah returns to House Mormont at the end, just seems set up for that to come through.
Except for her talking to the Septa, Cersei says nothing in that episode, but that Septa is in for a bad time.
Ok, she talks about burning Tommen also, but THATS IT!

I can't claim it, as I heard it on After the Throne or whatever that show is called, but they nailed the King's Landing sequence... With the music and the pacing and having the religious ceremony as the backdrop, it was very reminiscent of Godfather. Just extremely powerful stuff.
I don't know if anyone explicitly answered the question about who those kids are... They are the little birds, Qyburn's band of spies and, apparently, assassins. He has used them to gather secrets in the past. Did he take them over from Varys?
I guess they kind of answered the big question from last week about why Sansa didn't tell Jon about the reinforcements on the way... Sort of.
Also... Has it been absolutely confirmed it was Rhaeger? I know we can definitively say it was Lyanna.
EDIT: I kept calling them Sparrows, confusingly.

And Bran is on his way to Winterfell, right? So, at some point early next season Jon is gonna be all full of himself and shit.

Hearing that some show-only people concluded the baby was Lyanna's and Ned's, which you really can't blame them since 1) incest has been pretty firmly established as a thing on the show, and 2) the show didn't really do a good job establishing who Rhaegar was, just mentioning him a handful of side conversations spread across the seasons.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
Finally caught up with the episode. Solid, very well done. Couple of questions though:
-When Bron and Jaimie were having dinner with the Frey's, was that Arya already wearing the serving maid's face? Bron said she was looking over Jaime. Is Jaime on Arya's "To Do" list?
-How long does the "King in the North" chant go on? Who's the first to stop? What do they do next? Tap another keg of mead?
-Lady Mormont is a bad-ass.

I'm pretty sure he's NOT on the list. I'm wracking my brain trying to think of a show interaction between the two, or at least one that would rise to that level. I mean, obviously Cersei is on there.
I know both of the Cleganes are on there and I know a bunch of people got put on the list while she was captive. Was that the Brotherhood or whatever. (I keep wanting to call them Band of Brothers, which wipes my mind of the proper name.)
Probably other people... I'm sure some of you nerds will chime in. (Says the guy that spends an inordinate amount of time on a message board.)

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
Was Jaime present at all during the journey from Winterfell to King's Landing, where the Hound killed that butcher's kid?
Also, while Arya was not directly involved, wasn't Jaime the one who stabbed Ned in that first fight in King's Landing, which basically led to all of this trouble? And of course he pushed Bran off the tower wall. So if he wasn't on Arya's list, he certainly should have been.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
I don't think anyone on the Stark side knows about Jamie's role in Bran's fall. And I think one of Jamie's soldiers stabbed Ned (with a spear), while Ned was expecting to fight Jamie.
Other than being a Lannister (which might be good enough by itself) Arya does not have a direct reason to include Jamie on her hit list.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
I watched the last two episodes earlier this week. Both were great. Yes, in hindsight they may seem a bit too tidy, but that HAS to happen in a story with this many divergent storylines. Things have to end or come together.
It seems like we've gotten a good number of "good guys" (it's nearly all relative in GoT) winning, so that's been fun.
It's interesting to think about what's happened to the powerful houses and their futures:
Baratheon - Robert and both brothers dead. No surviving children from any of them. House is dead?
Stark - Bran is the only surviving Stark male, but he seems like he's squarely on another path in life. Of course, Jon Snow is taking on the Stark mantle, but we all know he's not really a Stark, he's a Targaryen.
Lannister - Patriarch dead. No grandchildren. Even if you counted Cersei's kids (and they pretty much did), they are all dead now. Tyrion could potentially have kids, but that seems unlikely at this point. Jamie as well, now that he's been kicked out of the Kingsguard, but he seems to be pretty monogamous with Cersei, which is a bit of a problem.
Tyrell - Patriarch and both kids dead - no grandkids. Maybe there are others out there that I don't know about/remember?
Martell - Any living males?
It seems like there's going to be a great resetting of which houses are considered great.

Yeah, that's a really cool line of discussion.
Up and Comers:
- Greyjoys
- Arryns
- Martell - See, I'm not sure how important it is that they are women. They are all technically of royal blood, right? Being a bastard doesn't seem to be an outright impediment to ruling, especially in Dorne.
Not really sure who is alive/able to run things:
- Tully
- Frey
Doneski
Baratheon
Boltons
Tyrell? I mean, unless something magical happens to Lady Olenna's womb/vagina I don't see how this House goes on. But I'm also really bad with family trees and the like, so...

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: The Quickening (chatter/guesses/spoilers)
Jon Snow is a Stark. He's just descended from Lyanna instead of Ned.
In the books, weren't there some more Lannister cousins who would be in line to take over Casterly Rock? Uncle Kevan had some kids in addition to Lancel, IIRC.
As I recall it, in Dorne the law allowed women to inherit titles (and presumably lands). They were going to claim that Myrcella was supposed to be Queen of the Seven Kingdoms after Joffrey died, because she is/was older than Tommen. So I think one of the Sand Snakes would be in line for power there, though it appeared from the episode that Ellaria simply took over by killing the DS9 dude.

BTW, having read around a bit more this week... Apparently HBO.com put up that infographic possibly not on purpose*. Because, really, if you watch that scene, the show seems to go out of its way NOT to specifically say Rhaegar.
Again, I'm fine to not have that be a mystery, but the reason i asked originally was because of all the whispering/inaudible shit going on in that scene certainly left it up in the air.
* This is a shitty sentence.

Book spoiler, but yes he did.

So, I just caught up, finished season 6 on dvd that I got at our library. Really enjoyed episodes 9 and 10.
Then I went back and read this thread (for the first time). Start to finish. Interesting comments, but in the end, all I can say is, what a bunch of whiners you guys are! So much bitching and complaining from start to finish. Some of you guys take this stuff way too seriously, which inevitably leads to disappointment.
