Maybe he means #2 is a Place bet and 3-5 are Show bets and not across the board?

I still don't get it. A two dollar win place or show bet is actually a six dollar bet.

10 on Nyquist to win.
5 on Nyquist to place.
5 on Nyquist to show.
Gotta support the horse with the hockey player's name.

I thought if you make a show bet that automatically paid if you win or place. You dont get the win or place money but you still got paid on the show bet. How I interpreted his bet.

That is true. But his at still confused me enough to not understand exactly what he wanted. As he had it it was 30somethjng dollars.

$6 on Exaggerator to Win/Place
$4 on Mohaymen to Win/Place/Show
$2 on Mor Spirit Win/Place/Show
$2 on Gun Runner Win/Place/Show
If you want to keep your bet amounts and just drop them to the lowest spot this would work.

So 6 to place on nyquist, same on exaggerate, 4 show on mohaymen, 2 show on others then this works. And yes, you'd cash any of those bets so long as they finished at least in that position.

This is what I meant by my 2$ place bet, that I'll cash if that horse places 1st or 2nd. Am I correct on that?

These were the payouts in last year's Derby.

Meaning that if you bet on American Pharoah to Show, you won $4.20 on a $2 bet.

I think this is right:

$5 on Nyquist to Place
$2 on Exaggerator across the board
$2 Mohaymen to Show
$5 for Gun Runner to Show
$2 Nyquist-Exaggerator Exacta
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

AB, just an FYI that I made some changes to my bets. Here are the changes (I also made the changes in my original post.)

$2 exacta box on 5 (Gun Runner) and 6 (My Man Sam)
$4 across the board on 11 (Exaggerator)
$4 to show on 15 (Outwork)

Thanks for running this.

Not complex enough. What do you expect the horse to do? First, second, or third. $20 on win means he has to win. $20 on place means if he comes in 1st or 2nd, you win. $20 on show means if he comes in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you win.

Less risk, less reward. I put my whole 20 on Nyqvist, but spread it across win, place and show bets. Degen put it all to win, so deservedly, his profit was larger!

OK. The crazy thing is that everyone that placed a bet cashed a ticket of some sort. All but three at least got their money back. The heavy favorite combined with decent odds for good horses made for a bloodbath for the track! Collectively, the challenge bet $260 and won 706.80. That's nuts.

Without further ado, the standings, along with additional columns that show the maximum carryover and minimum bets for the Preakness, which again is half of any cash you ended up with after the Derby. So while BSF hit the biggest payday, he will also have to wager more in the next race.

A note on the minimum bets. They are just that. Your total bankroll is the amount you can spend if you want, but the last column is what you HAVE to spend.

Also, this table corrects the rounding error I made on Degen's bet

Sketchy WiFi in a coffee shop - not Starbucks- in fabulous Tokyo...

I'll put 4 bucks across the board on Stradivari.

$3 exactor box - Stradivari/Nyquist/Lani

$2 triactor box - same three horses

And Japanese women? Great googly moogly!

$10 on Stradivari to show
