"You know that's permanent, right?" - The Tattoo Thread

I was waiting for my tattoo to be put on Instagram before I posted it. I didn't end up going with that nautical theme idea. Two reasons. One, it's too much going on as far as the artist is concerned and wouldn't work. I get that. Two, the picture that was drawn up didn't cover the crap tattoo I had correctly, so this was chosen:

Took three hours. Wasn't that bad at all. My artist is really awesome. I'll be going back for more after she gets back from maternity leave in August.

My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose...

Very much so. I was impressed when it was done. And according to her that was a better than average tribal. So I know her skill is impressive.

My friend Courtney made the same joke on Facebook.
Shirley wrote:Does it mean something?
Not necessarily. I like owls and I wanted one from a while back. But I like how Slolz put it.

I can't see any of the color anymore. That is some impressive work. Your tan will be interesting with that flesh tone ink.

Back a couple years ago, friends of mine, a married couple released joint Facebook messages that they were divorcing. Seeing each thread and the families from each side discuss the matter was interesting.

Anyhoo, fast forward to now and she's happily remarried, living in Colorado, and posted this the other day:

Image

She herself has his name on her hip:

I'm hoping that this didn't end in divorce.

Although with the way she obsesses about him and only really interacts with me around military promotion time (seemingly to rub in my face she has lapped me on rank despite having been in for less years than me), maybe it would be kinda funny. Regardless, I don't ever recommend anyone do this. Maybe for a kid's name, but still.

Speaking of that, you'd think Johnny Depp would have learned from his past experience, but no...

My latest from the Albuquerque Tattoo Fiesta a couple weekends ago:

And tomorrow I'm getting one from Kelly Doty. She's going to be on Ink Master next month. Her studio is in Salem, MA and she's one of the best new school artists in the country.

Thanks. :)

When I was still in Germany and decided that I needed more tattoos, I simply googled "styles of tattoos." It brought me to a page from a tattoo magazine with 25 or so styles. A picture of hers was linked. I wanted to know more. Come to find out her tattoo studio is in Salem, MA. My sister planned her wedding in Salem. So, when I went home last month, I coordinated what was necessary and there ya go. Super fortunate and lucky for this. The literal jaw drops from some people (especially those who love pin up culture) have been pretty awesome to witness.

Check out her Instagram. She'll be on Ink Master in about a week and a half too. Her work is insanely good. A small sample:

Pretty awesome story behind the actual painting.

http://wtfarthistory.com/post/201697072 ... heat-on-me
Jean de La Fontaine, the great 17th century French fabulist (he wrote fables), composed a tale about a suspicious husband who believes himself a cuckold. In The Pack Saddle, in order to protect his wife’s chastity the husband paints an image of an ass (donkey) over her nether region. One day when the husband is away, his friend, another artist, makes love to the woman and erases the image. Before doing so, however, the friend had carefully copied the ass onto a piece of paper seen lying on the floor. He then repaints the image, but adds a “pack saddle." How embarrassing for the husband who would no doubt recognize the change and realize that his wife has just had a wild ride with another man!

Fucking RG3. Middle of a divorce and he's getting this Instagram side chick's name tattooed on him.

According to her profile from FSU, she's a heptathlete originally from Estonia. Those Eastern block women love them some chocolate. And she's smoking hot too:

According to Michael Rapaport's latest podcast, he has White Girl Syndrome.

Don't think Buddy's ever going to make assistant manager with that on his face.

Well, the black and gray looks decent, but the placement is highly questionable.

However, I don't want to judge too much. A friend of a friend has two tattoo parlors (one is having a grand opening soon) and a pretty cool face tat:

And he does work like this too. He is doing well.

There's a big gap between a face tattoo on a dude who owns and operates a tattoo parlor and pretty much everyone else.

Although I appreciate a nice tattoo on the arm or leg or torso. I'm not a tattoo guy in general myself, so my opinion may have limited value. And maybe I'm just an old prig, but, imho a face tattoo is always a bad idea.

(Maybe ok if you own and operate a tattoo parlor, or want to make points in a prison gang.)

I saw more face tattoos during my time in ABQ (and this was before the uber popularity of tats) than I've seen anywhere else.

Still not as bad as the guy with "TRUMP" across his forehead.

As an aside, anyone watch Ink Master last night? Von Miller was a guest judge. The show is meh, but watchable. And he did no worse than host, and non tattoo expert, Dave Navarro.

(Also, my tattoo artist is in the top 8.)
