They have some coverage over theft. Every retail store that I have worked (box sore and convenience store) told us not to pursue or confront anyone that was attempting to shoplift. They told us there was nothing in the store worth it. Of course, I don't know what these ladies were robbing, but like you said, what kind of employee is willing to fight to the death over something like that.

Too many people watching movies of the convenience clerk pulling out the shotgun and getting back what is "theirs".

Right, but more often than not when that happens in the movies, it's the mom-and-pop shop where they owner pulls a shotgun. Which is still fairly silly, but the narrative makes more sense.

Some minimum wage dude at a 7-11? GTFO.

Can we pause for moment, to note that murder is absolutely now legal in certain states - especially if you are white. Simply create a conflict with someone, shoot them, and then claim that you were standing your ground. That's not hyperbole. Works, at the least, in Florida and Tennessee. Other states too, I am sure. Especially with permitless concealed carry laws.

Labeling it "Shoot First" is good work and shouldn't be abandoned or soft-talked when talking about real life incidents versus the law itself.

Now the gun nuts are going after the white girls.

Maybe this will be what finally prompts the GOP to do something.

Speaking of Sandy Hook, I just read this long article about the Crime Scene Investigators who worked the Sandy Hook shootings.

They Saw the Horrific Aftermath of a Mass Shooting. Should We?
The crime-scene van was parked next to the black Honda Civic already identified as belonging to the shooter, the yellow tape marking its perimeter juddering in a helicopter gust. Earlier that morning, before the van was cleared to move closer to the school, Jeff Covello, the crime-scene-van supervisor, and his team were crowded around the dry-erase board. Art Walkley, the only one on the van who had so far been inside, sketched out what he said were the two main areas of impact. He arrived with the other first-response officers and stormed the school as children were running out, his gun drawn, ready to kill on sight, in fact quite eager to pull the trigger once he glimpsed Classrooms 10 and 8.

Jeff had never seen Art look the way he did after he came out of the school. It was more of an apparition that climbed back onto the van. The two of them were SWAT for eight years together before Jeff transferred to Major Crimes and brought Art with him. They had taken fire together. They had seen each other become parents. Art had seen Jeff call his wife in the middle of the night to remind her where to find the life insurance. They could all read one another’s minds. Karoline Keith, the senior detective on the van, had already been riding for more than five years when Jeff arrived as the new supervising sergeant. It was Karoline who suggested that Art try to tell them what he saw and sketch it on the board. She hoped it would make it easier once they got inside. Art said he didn’t think there was anything he could say that was going to make it easier.
It is equally horrifying, heart-breaking, and maddening.

And god damn the NRA and all their bought and sold Republican politicians who refuse to do anything about this. And triple-fuck god damn Alex Jones and his ilk for spreading lies about the horror show.

I haven't read that article yet, but I've been on board with showing the actual crime scenes for a while now. We sanitize war and violence and death when we hide it. We're hiding the truth, which allows millions of Americans to convince themselves that they're right to defend guns. I don't WANT to see the awful images of people, kids, blown apart by the guns, but I think we all NEED to see it. It's penance for what we're allowing in this country.

(Same thing with images from the wars we wage. 95% of Americans have no idea what's really happening.)

Are we sure? I know people on juries that have seen gruesome crime scenes that are scarred for life because it's not in our everyday lives. If we see it all the time, do we become desensitized to it after the 20th time?

Is that more or less fair than allowing a classroom a month to get slaughtered for profit and containing the images to a smaller group? I'm not saying it should be on billboards, but we shouldn't celebrate guns and censor their aftermath.

Have to agree with this.

It's gruelling enough to see the pictured of murdered kids - you know the happy smiling photos - and realize that they have been killed. That leads to the feeling that it's a tragic waste of life.

Seeing the remains of these children would (hopefully) get at least some pro-gun types sickened and angry and make them realize just what is going on and make them offer more than vacuous banalities.

For sure, but if it gets one side pushing even harder and the middle less likely to stand by idly or ignore, its a net positive.

Or it makes them feel stronger that we need more guns and less regulation to prevent future mass shootings. Like Jordan Klepper said in the video posted yesterday, this isn’t their opinion, but who they are. You can’t change that with facts.

Anecdotally, of course, but a dude with between 50-100 guns was altered albeit not fully changed. I think graphic dead 8 year olds would push even harder.

I think this is right. The nutjobs are already fully committed to "we need more guns and less regulation to prevent future mass shootings." They are not reachable or teachable. It's others who would likely be more motivated on the issue if we actually got to see what AR-15s do to kid bodies.

I do think it could mobilize the people who don’t care about the issue, or are passively not against gun regulation. Could also force some GOP politicians hands who are privately for regulation but afraid to take a stand. I could also see it backfiring against Dems as using images of massacred children to push a political agenda.

I don't agree with this. What percentage of Americans (or Canadians), even the super tough gun fuckers, do you think have seen images of a grade schooler with multiple bullet holes? Its new ground.

There's also a really HUGE fallacy with the notion that "all gun owners" are complete NRA wingnuts. That's simply not true. I don't have time to dig it up, but a group recently did a poll of gun owners and vast majority (like 85 percent) are in favor of strengthening background checks. It's somewhere in the high 70s for red flag laws.

No, they are not going to be down with assault weapon bans. But even there, a significant chunk of current gun owners are fine with an assault weapons ban (about 30 percent last time I looked.)

This isn't about 30 percent of the population. It's about the NRA. And it's about the extreme, now in control, part of the GOP that use wedge issues to rile up their shrinking base.

This is a lot like abortion. Yes, you can continue to cement your already very red states/counties. But your are pissing off the vast majority of Americans, including many gun owners, by standing in the way of common sense and decency.

Abortion and gun laws are going to continue to rally the youth, and that momentum is going to continue until the pain of being led around by a bunch of fucking morons finally sinks in. They have essentially strapped themselves to a rocket that's about to have an unscheduled rapid disassembly.

Been kinda funny watching whiny gun Instagram pages melt down over this:

(And to be fair, I've purchased parts from them in the past, so I can kinda empathize from a business sense that this will hurt them. But reading their posts and the comments is entertaining because of the hyperbole.)
