Pretty much a Page 12 story with everything else going on in the world, but.
(FWIW, this was pretty much the most likely of the remaining options by far. And if they did a good job with the logo and stuff, I'm on board.)

Well, with the Knights and the Kings in the division, I'm hoping that Anaheim renames themselves as the Rooks.

Mighta. I didn't see it if so. Not a fan of just "Vegas" or Golden really but I do like the logo. Should look pretty sweet on a sweater.

Re: Welcome NHL Las Vegas
The "crossed swords" secondary logo isn't bad either. And at least gold has a connection to Nevada.

All this wait and no sweater?? Am I missing it somewhere obvious because I'm on the app?

Agreed.mister d wrote:Vegas only is cheesy as fuck.
Also think the "Golden" is unnecessary. Makes it sound like a minor league team. Just "Knights" would have been fine.
Weird, by the way, that there wasn't already a big-four pro team named the "Knights."

Re: Welcome NHL Las Vegas
Couldn't be just "Knights" because of the London Knights which I think is dumb but whatever. Golden Knights is fine. Silver Knights might have been better. But the gold plays good in the logo and there's at least a lot of history around gold for the area and Nevada.
Just Vegas is cheesy as fuck agreed but that's easier to change one day if they decide to. Really do dig the logos though.

what an embarrassment for the NHL. Who runs graphics and presentations?
I have a presentation on Thursday, I would be fired if I ran it like that.

But with Nevada being the "Silver State," not as much however.brian wrote:The "crossed swords" secondary logo isn't bad either. And at least gold has a connection to Nevada.
Honestly, since the guy couldn't get his alma mater West Point Black Knights name, he went the next best thing. He chose the name of the Army's parachute demonstration team:
Edit:
Just want to say I really like that helmet logo. The subdued letter V nails it excellently.

Turns out the lack of jerseys is because of adidas replacing Reebok in the spring as NHL's official jersey supplier. So nothing until then.

And in the locker rooms, where the players clean up after a game can be the Knight Showers!

Also, most people outside of Las Vegas missed it/didn't pick up on it, but there was specific inspiration for the secondary logo.

They're doing something wrong if they don't play that clip if (when) they go down 1-0. (It's not as funny once they're down 2-0 or more.)

If you're a fan of premature mock drafts, Craig Button/TSN posted one yesterday. Almost meaningless at this point because we have no idea who is going to be available, but still a fun thought exercise. This roster contains Fleury and a whole lot of not much.
Re: Welcome NHL Las Vegas
Yeah, hidden in the bullets in the end was the key point that side deals to take or not take certain players will probably be prevalent. I strongly suspect the plan is to stock up on 2018 draft picks. Also, they'll probably end up with a couple of guys with high salaries not protected by NMCs (or waived NMCs) to make sure they hit the salary floor but will take draft picks (or lower to mid-tier prospects) to do so.bapo! wrote:If you're a fan of premature mock drafts, Craig Button/TSN posted one yesterday. As a Penguins fan, I'm leery of the draft because the Pens have a greater opportunity to get screwed than other teams. If they lose a key piece, and other teams lose, like, Ryan Reaves, I'm going to be salty. Still, I'll be curious about watching all of this play out.

Re: Welcome NHL Las Vegas
True. But I don't want the Penguins (or Sharks or Rangers or whoever) to be punished for having too many valuable players on the roster. But whatever. Everybody has time to prepare for it. I'll worry about it later.sancarlos wrote:Part of being a good GM is preparing well for this!bapo! wrote:As a Penguins fan, I'm leery of the draft because the Pens have a greater opportunity to get screwed than other teams. I hadn't seen the secondary logo previously, but my first thought was this:
Also, in that linked crack at an expansion draft, I don't see the Red Wings exposing Mantha. But, whatevs.

I'd be really surprised if we lost Klein before a walk year versus a younger forward with a lot more team control left.
Re: Welcome NHL Las Vegas
NHL released a list of players who will have NMCs in effect for the expansion draft.
Nothing too surprising if you follow a particular team I suppose. Will be interesting to see if some of these guys like Nash or MAF waive their NMC for various reasons.

Yeah, that's not as big a deal as it sounds. They were advised to proceed by NHL counsel with the expectation it would be easily overturned by the arbitration panel or whoever determines disputes about trademarks. The only other trademarked Golden Knights were Clarkson and UCF who both signed waivers.

Re: Welcome NHL Las Vegas
Also, the "trademark" wasn't denied. What was denied was registration on the federal trademark registry. Being on the registry gives you certain additional protections against subsequent users, and extra damages available against counterfeiters, but it really doesn't have anything to do with whether one can either use a trademark or sue others to enforce it. The laws still recognize common law trademark rights, and those rights are about 90% as good as rights associated with a registered mark.
