Gawker

Maybe.

Insert link to bankruptcy story.

Money talks. And enough money can make a media site possibly go away...

http://nypost.com/2016/06/10/gawker-fil ... ankruptcy/

Don't people/companies that can afford lawyers appeal such big judgments, postponing the day they have to pay? And that story says the Chapter 11 filing claims "…between $50 million and $100 million in assets and $100 million to $500 million in liabilities." (Quite a range.) Maybe they are broke despite the $140 million judgment.

Just my knee-jerk reaction, the last five minutes are more thought than I have ever given to Gawker or this lawsuit.

heres another link with more info: http://www.recode.net/2016/6/10/1190376 ... ziff-davis

The guy listed as Gawker's banker, I've crossed paths with him years ago. I found him to be very slick.
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

I'm sure they will appeal the judgment. This doesn't stop them from doing so, though it may impact timing. This filing is interesting in that it is chapter 11 (reorganization, not go bye bye), which could mean they think that the more valuable sites might bring in enough money to satisfy their debts. The lesson here: we're very lucky here that there's no risk of a $100M jury verdict for failing to post scores.

If I can get a change of venue to The Bronx, don't be so sure.

Gawker will definitely appeal.

But an appeal does not stop execution on the judgment (seizing assets for the amount of the judgment) unless a bond is posted. And it is hard/expensive to get a bond for a nine-figure judgment.

A Chapter 11 filing is much cheaper than getting a bond. It stops any action to collect the judgment against Gawker while the appeal goes on.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I did not know that. Thanks.

I just smiled at the thought of the Hulkster "executing" on a judgment.

Perhaps a bit of whistling past the graveyard, but I was wondering when/what they'd put out on this.

HBO should absorb parts of the Gawker Network into The Ringer if it's affordable and cost effective.

But I know nothing of this sort of thing. Just seems like opportunity to me.

Comment from some dude on Reddit:
This, of course, is an important reminder that everyone should have an emergency plan for what to do if Hulkamania runs wild on you.

Well, the article did say it was a serious offer. But it was not.
