Re: The Weather
Really foggy, like can't see a block over foggy. Today's high temperature is right now, and we're dropping all day. Should be at 0 C tonight.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
Re: The Weather
yeah.. can you take care of that by say 830a on saturday? i'm landing about 715a that morning and would rather not suffer such a shock to the system. I just spent the weekend at the beach, then playing golf, then at the pool last night until about 7.. Temp doesn't drop below 85.
i'd be ever so grateful.

I just read the forecast high for Chicago today (-9 F) is lower than Barrow, Alaska, which is the northernmost town in the United States (0 F).

Re: The Weather
Interesting weather on the drive in this morning. I think it was fog, but it really looked like visible vapors coming off of the melted snow, kind of like steam coming off your head in the cold. My car temp reading said 53 degrees, and it was raining while the ground still had a fair amount of snow. At least they raised the predicted high for tomorrow from 8 to 11 degrees. Crazy to go from freezing and snowy on Friday, 50s today, and a high of 11 tomorrow with -18 wind chill.

Yeah, it's strangely warm in Alaska right now. I have weather alerts for Fairbanks since I spent a few weeks there for work and know some folks and it's usually around -10F this time of year and highs are actually around 20F. So it is basically 30 degrees colder in Indianapolis than it is in Fairbanks.Sabo wrote:I just read the forecast high for Chicago today (-9 F) is lower than Barrow, Alaska, which is the northernmost town in the United States (0 F).

Re: The Weather
It was warm this morning, but the temperature is steadily dropping. It should be in single digits overnight. They've actually delayed school for two hours tomorrow! (yes, we're pussies).
I just noticed that it's currently 50 degrees colder in Boone (western part of state) than in Hatteras (outer banks).

Re: The Weather
Yeah, as the front moves in the temps are rapidly dropping. In Detroit, the low last night was 16 degrees and the temps are expected to drop for at least 24 consecutive hours.Shirley wrote:It was warm this morning, but the temperature is steadily dropping. Funny my college roommate was a meteorology major and he still geeks out about patterns and such even though he's been out of the weather game for 15 years. We traveled with him and his wife this fall and he had 3 different apps on his phone that he was tracking a large system on.

Re: The Weather
Woke up to -25c and windy this morning. Wind chill is at that magical spot where celsius and fahrenheit meet.
Making matters worse is the fact that the temperature got up to +3 a couple of days ago which melted a lot of the snow and ice that fell just before christmas. Then we had a "flash freeze" so everything is coated with ice. Just finished dumping 30 pounds of ice melter between the door and the driveway.
On a happier note, only ten and a half weeks until spring.

Re: The Weather
I actually get closing/postponing schools when temperatures are that low. Waiting for a school bus in that weather can be pretty hazardous to the extremities. My hair froze this morning when I went to warm my car up. I was outside for 45 seconds max.

Re: The Weather
Working it's way back from single digits to hit 50 on Saturday. Then snow, wind, and colder just in time for the Broncos game. Though I think Peyton is probably praying hard to get the temp up.

Yeah, the AVERAGE high for December and January this time of year is about -5F. So like two straight months of what the midwest is dealing with right now for a day or two. You have to be crazy as fuck to live there.Gunpowder wrote:brian wrote:Yeah, it's strangely warm in Alaska right now. If I hadn't groomed my mustache over the weekend I definitely would have Jeff Fisher'd myself during the dog walks this morning and this evening.

Heavy, really heavy, fog. It's also just barely above freezing, so there is nice thin layer of ice on some of the roads. Made for a dicey drive into work.

For getting to work from home? I still had to drive out to Summit to pick up my daughter. Not a fun trip at all. Side streets were horrendous.

Now I see what you did there. You were having a private conversation. I was on hold with the fine people of Orbitz while Swamping, so I wasn't fully engaged. Good stuff. Aaaaaand fuck Orbitz and Delta. Need to change the date of a trip, and it costs almost as much as the damned trip cost in the first place. Cancelling is even more, as the hotel is not refundable. WTF? 2 months out, and the hotel and car rental are non-refundable? If you book a hotel, there is never a cancellation fee.
ETA: Fuck the travel insurance company, too! The only way they cover you is if you die, have a medical emergency or lose your job. I argued that my wife would lose her job if she didn't go in that week. The guy was completely flustered, but not going for it.

I left at 3:15PM.
The one time I booked with Orbitz I subsequently had to cancel, and they couldn't have been better about it. Relevant: the flight I cancelled was to Dublin through Amsterdam, and less than a month after 9/11.

but the kicker is, they called the snow day after i got to school. (last night they called the delay, but i come in same time and get shit done.) not really bitching, except for the fact that i had to drink dunkin.

It's pretty fun watching all these people slide trying to get up the hill by my house. Some people don't have a clue. Just totally gunning it on ice trying to get traction. It isn't working. One guy has been trying for 20 minutes. I guess I'ma have to go out and tell him to try an alterante route out. There are two options he is ignoring that should be easier.
