flying through Chicago on the way to Michigan Thursday. kinda wish I could go outside just to see what that type of cold feels like
It's the sixth version of The Swamp. What could possibly go wrong?

If there isn't much wind, it doesn't feel much different than 0 degrees. If it's windy, it's what I imagine it feels like having acid thrown in your face.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 12:45 pm flying through Chicago on the way to Michigan Thursday. kinda wish I could go outside just to see what that type of cold feels like
Funny you say that. I grew up in Colorado where the temperature could drop very low. But, the first time I went on a business trip to Massachusetts, I couldn't believe how much colder I felt at similar temperatures, because of the wetness of the air. Then, I went to Chicago, and it was even that much worse, because you had low temps, damp air, and that fucking wind!
One odd thing about living in Buffalo, you really notice days when it isn't windy.sancarlos wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 2:15 pmFunny you say that. I love Chicago and the people who live there, but I don't know if I could ever live in a place so cold. I almost got a job there a couple years ago, and I thought about that a lot.
I spent 3 winters living in Chicago, and it was 3 too many.
Toronto can be brutal (as it is now), but our winters are comparable to Detroit or Chicago...DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 7:12 pmI spent 3 winters living in Chicago, and it was 3 too many.
The first cold snap (about -10 with the wind chill) I went through, I was holed up in my apartment in Lincoln Park for 2 days (my car wouldn't start, so I didn't even try to go to work), but then I ran out of food, so I had to venture out to the grocery store.
Halfway there I thought I was just going to lay down on the sidewalk and die, like I was in a Jack London novel.
flight to Chicago got canceled this morning. the joys of working from home and being flexible meant I was able to call SWA right away and get booked on a flight to Indy. and then now have to rent a car in Indy and drive to Kalamazoo ... where I will spend the entire weekend drinking bell'sBrontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 12:45 pm flying through Chicago on the way to Michigan Thursday. kinda wish I could go outside just to see what that type of cold feels like
Don't sleep on Arcadia Brewing in Kalamazoo either. The Kalamazoo Beer Exchange is a cool concept too.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 5:50 pmflight to Chicago got canceled this morning. the joys of working from home and being flexible meant I was able to call SWA right away and get booked on a flight to Indy. and then now have to rent a car in Indy and drive to Kalamazoo ... where I will spend the entire weekend drinking bell'sBrontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 12:45 pm flying through Chicago on the way to Michigan Thursday. kinda wish I could go outside just to see what that type of cold feels like
the beer exchange looked cool. so definitely worth going to? Will add arcadia to the list. Latitude 42 any good too? That's not far from the hotel.brian wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 5:53 pmDon't sleep on Arcadia Brewing in Kalamazoo either. Beer Exchange is definitely worth a visit. Some people think it's a little goofy, others get into it, but the selection is pretty great regardless. Haven't tried Latitude 42 yet, but I've heard good things.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 5:56 pmthe beer exchange looked cool. so definitely worth going to? Will add arcadia to the list. I *think* I'm gonna have a fair amount of free time this weekend and have guys to go drink with. GF does synchronized skating and it's the regional competition this weekend. if they place top five, we're back in the AZO in a month.
Let me know if you need anything when you stop through. I'm 20 minutes from the airport.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 5:50 pmflight to Chicago got canceled this morning. the joys of working from home and being flexible meant I was able to call SWA right away and get booked on a flight to Indy. and then now have to rent a car in Indy and drive to Kalamazoo ... where I will spend the entire weekend drinking bell'sBrontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 12:45 pm flying through Chicago on the way to Michigan Thursday. kinda wish I could go outside just to see what that type of cold feels like

I didn't see this until now. we made it! from -4 to 4. had to stop at the apple store in south bend for a dying phone battery. drove up 31 and the tour of the world was fantastic in Indiana. I may need that on Saturday.duff wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 11:40 amAnd I am 20 minutes for Kalamazoo.BSF21 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 10:18 amLet me know if you need anything when you stop through. The Paris of Northeastern B.C. Either the start or the end of the Alaska Highway.
Was the last one the last time I was in Vegas (June 2016)? I remember one day it absolutely dumped during the afternoon with flash flood warnings, etc. By the time I left work, sidewalks were dry, but puddles remained.brian wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 4:38 pm .75 inches of rain had fallen by noon making it the rainest Valentine's Day in Las Vegas history. Might well have been. Usually the storms with a lot of rain are in monsoon season (summer). Getting soaked all day like yesterday is even rarer.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Fri Feb 15, 2019 10:28 amWas the last one the last time I was in Vegas (June 2016)?
