Interesting shot. Prime Minister Harper, Premier Redford and Mayor Nenshi are all Calgarians. No idea who the two on the left are.

now it's Medicine Hat, 200 miles East (downstream) from Calgary
Medicine Hat's Ron Robinson, Director of Emergency Management gives the following death sentence for his city:
Due to anticipated water levels sandbagging is unlikely to be effective, Therefore there will be no sandbagging of homes and or businesses. A berm is being constructed around the electric generation and water treatment facility and there are large sandbags which are being prepared to protect critical infrastructure. People who are outside of the evacuation area may actually see sewage coming up as a result of the rising river, this is something that cannot be effectively stopped in any way, shape or form.
So they're saying the pink is what flooded in '95, and the pink + yellow will flood tomorrow.
Oh, and it's like end of times raining here right now. Wow.

The raindrops are really heavy today. Indoors, it sounds like hail as they fall on the window AC units.
ETA: My cell phone just made an unusual sound. I pick it up, and there is an emergency alert--flash flood warning from the NSA, um I mean the NWS. I never signed up for such alerts/warnings.
I am so glad Big Bro is watching over me.

You can turn off those alerts on your iPhone, howard. Go to Settings > Notifications and scroll down to the bottom to the "Government Alerts" section. You can turn off AMBER Alerts and Emergency Alerts. I've woken up to the AMBER Alert notice in the middle of the night a couple of times, including last night. The sound that notice makes is pretty damn odd and scared the living hell out of me the first time I heard it.

No different from them interrupting TV shows. I think it's a decent service and a good way to use technology to get the word out.

We tied the all-time record high here yesterday (117) and it's pretty much more of the same in sight for the rest of the week. Because of some cloud cover the LOW temperature last night was 95.

Rain. Lots of it for many days in a row. Not our usual set your clocks to it, 4 p.m. thundershower.

Those mornings are the worst. Last summer or the summer before during monsoon season we had a crisp 98 for a morning low. We had a small dust storm go through last night, hopefully some rain will be on the way soon.

We've had mostly overcast skies and occasional rain or thunderstorms for the last week to 10 days, and the forecast is much of the same for the next 7-10 days. Still, I'd rather have that than the oppressive heat you guys have in the Southwest.

They've already turned it back on for you.
After a weekend of just brutal temps in the 100 with high humidity, the last two days have been downright pleasant. 90 or so with low humidity. I'll take it.

It's hot here now.. after the floods that means, mosquitoes :(

I survived!
500,000 without power, subway stopped, severe flooding... AND it had poured here on Sunday and on the previous Friday. If anyone needs fresh water, call us.
We were without power for out 10 hours, but "luckily" both my wife and I have been laid up with a stomach virus so we witnessed it all from the comfort of home.
I'm telling you, the best investment we ever made was to water seal the basement when we moved in.

Rumors are that your gallant Mayor rode out the storm in his SUV because his house didn't have A/C.

Apparently true - but he was with his kids, trying to keep cool (it is brutally muggy here as well), so not the worst Ford move.
(Unless of course, the SUV was where his pipe was stashed...)
In other news, thunderstorms predicted for tonight and tomorrow in Toronto.
Better walk the dog now...

Feels like a fall day today. Currently in the low 60s with a nice breeze. Nice to be able to turn the AC off and open all the windows.

I'm in Calgary. Weather has been really nice lately but because of that, we get freak thunderstorms and sometimes hail every night.

Diameter is 28mm, just over 1 inch.
We're all waiting for King William on our money.

Not me. Certainly not me. I'm waiting for the day when the inbred unelected foreign nationals are permanently the fuck off of our money, stamps and everything else soiled with their unwelcome hideous likenesses.
