So your table discussed how you recognized someone you internet know but have never met and didn’t say hi to? Might have needed an extra Sneakbox to get through that one.

Our friends didn't ask too many questions so it wasn't too drawn out. Of course one of my kids looked up from her phone just as the conversation was moving on and said "what?" and got a "you know, that sports frog thing daddy does" response.

How is it even a thing that needs explaining in 2017? "I know that guy off a sports message board." "Ah, gotcha."

That should all the explanation required. Unless these people just woke up from a coma started in 1996 and don't know the internet.

You don't have to tell them every post you made.

(And all my planning is about to pay off! They had lunch the other day.)

Congrats!

And my point was just that my wife is my age and for whatever reason still finds this whole thing a little odd, especially when forced to describe it to others. Though in this case I think she may have found the fact that I recognized mister d but didn't feel comfortable bugging him even odder.

I don't know how many swampers your wife has met, but I think that's made it easier for mine to understand. SHe's personally met Sabo, Mulligan, Bob, Spongelikeninja, Bensell (RIP) and Bronto. And that's only the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

This is why you have to read every thread.

I was explaining the Swamp to my daughter the other day, as I explained to her why she had to wait around outside the New York New York casino on the Strip - because Brian and Rams Fanny were passing through on their way to the Knights game. We were lucky enough to have time for a quick beer before the game. Then, because Rams Fanny disclosed to my daughter that there was a Cake Boss restaurant at the Venetian, we spent the rest of the night wandering over there and back.

(In other words, it was a great evening.)

The arrest of a 29-year-old woman at the Target store located on Springfield Avenue in Union has elicited concern from members of SOMA [South Orange-Maplewood] Justice, a local activist group on Facebook.

Union Police reported that two off-duty officers arrested the woman as she allegedly attempted to exit the store with $855 worth of shoplifted items January 9 at around 7 p.m., contacting Union police headquarters for backup when the woman resisted arrest.

I was at Whole Foods in the same plaza when this happened and 3 police cars went absolutely flying by the front door. Knowing this is what it was for, taking the risk of going whatever MPH through the parking lot was just ridiculous.

Someone on a local U forum was looking for witnesses. She suggested it was a gallon of milk and a misunderstanding when one of the shoplifter’s kids bolted outside and not almost $1000 in goods.

I mean, she could have taken 10x what she did and (unless it comes out she was armed) police cars racing through a crowded parking lot and a take down is preposterous.

You mean they won't let you mail in a check, you have to appear in court to pay the ticket? I haven't been pulled over in NJ. My wife got a ticket on the Parkway, and I think she mailed in a check, but I can't remember, and that would have been a State Trooper, not a municipal ticket.

Side note, I thought I was getting pulled over last week. I realized I was going down a hill too fast when I saw a police car parked on the other side of the road. He whipped around to follow me, but 2 cars were in between us. He followed me into a bank parking lot. I parked, he circled the lot, and turned his car, facing me, but not parked. I waited 30 seconds, got out and went into the bank, and he eventually pulled out an left. Kind of curious what he was thinking, if he planned on pulling me over, but the other cars were in the way and he lost interest, or if he just wanted to scare me, or if he saw a middle aged white guy and realized all is well in our quiet suburban town.

Could be. I still had dealer plates, and just the dealer logo on the front plate. We also had a rash of stolen new cars in town. At least 5 in the first week of January.

Speaking of BH, I've driven there 7 times in the last month or so to try and get the screen on my iPad fixed at some little place downtown that I found after a someone I know whored himself out for them on FB. They're now on their fourth try:

1. The first attempt (to replace a cracked screen) resulted in a functional screen but it wasn't seated correctly, so the home button could get stuck under the screen.
2. The second attempt was a fucking mess as a good 1/3 of the screen wasn't responsive to touch, and taps would be picked up by some unrelated area of the device (I take some blame here for shitty testing).
3. After the third attempt I sat down and tested in the store and it seemed good. But once I got it home and used it a little, I found that it was sometimes just clicking things on its own. I eventually figured out it was things that were sitting at the bottom of the screen (so if I was scrolling through Twitter it might be the tweet stuck at the bottom of the screen while I was reading something at the top), and when I looked closer I noticed a smear of something(?) on the INSIDE of the screen, right in the area I presumed was causing the false touches.

They also lost my paperwork the second time and never called me to tell me it was "done" the second or third time. I dropped it off again yesterday. Two or three more times and I'm totally going to ask for my money back...

Dude, you have no idea how far off the rails that group has gone. There are 4 loony conspiracy theorists who turned every post into a political attack against the Town Council. They were banned, and formed a new group with an almost identical name. I can never tell what group a message is in. People want a place to ask for recommendations or discuss town activities without political attacks, and these nutters freak the fuck out that they are being silenced. One guy keeps running for Council, and constantly stops people in front of stores or at events to discuss his political platform. He even knocks on doors. I've had to tell him off twice now. He and another guy, who also ran for TC, continually sue the town for refusing to release information on FOIA requests, and Open Public Records Act violations. He showed up to a Library Committee meeting, and filmed the all-volunteer committee kicking him out. He then sued the individual members and the Town for violating his rights and conducting the meeting in private to advance their nefarious agenda. These are all volunteers, mostly retirees, and he sued them personally, saying they are government officials, and therefore should know the laws on conducting meetings. Just last month, he collected signatures for some petition, and the Town turned it over to the County Prosecutor, as he violated laws in collecting the signatures and submitting the petition. Of course he is all over the forums and Patch claiming it's a coverup and they are attacking him to prevent him from uncovering their evil plot. He bitched that it's unfair for the Town to expect him to know and understand the laws regulating petitions.

So glad I didn't pursue the Town Council idea. I don't fucking need that.

Just being in Hackensack makes me sad. It's like a town that was probably a cute little downtown in 1960, and nothing has been improved since then.
