2016 NFL Regular Season Thread the First

Don't think we need individual ones for each week, so let's try a catch-all and can start another one at some point if it gets too big.

Anytime the NFL wants to do away with the 4th pre-season game, have at it.

No way Chip Kelly allows Kaep to stay on the roster.

This is the year the Bengals win a playoff game. Unless they don't make the playoffs at all.

Give me the Steelers over the Cardinals in a Super Bowl re-match, decided when Palmer throws a pick-6 late in the 4th quarter.

If Kaepernick gets cut, it'll be Baalke's decision, not Kelly's. Kelly said directly, earlier this week, that Kaepernick is one of the two best QBs on the roster. I highly doubt Kelly would say that if he wanted him cut. And if got tougher to cut him for being a "distraction" now that Eric Reid, one of the team's best defensive players, has joined his protest and Kaepernick has pledged to donate $1M of his salary to charity. Additionally, the guy who was thought to be third-string, Jeff Driskel, was awful in the final preseason game, while Kaepernick played pretty well.

I'll take a Green Bay vs. New England SB. Packers win. Palmer will piss away the NFC Title game. Steelers will have too many injuries.

Kap stays on roster, they don't trust Gabbert. He's explained himself adequately enough for most people. His behavior last night was consistent and he did honor the military. This is soon yesterday's news. They may well release him in March for cap reasons, though.

Vikings will trade 3rd round pick (TB will ask for a 2nd) for Glennon. Latest news on Bridgewater is it is so severe it is possibly a 2 year rehab. They need to win now.

I'm actually pretty high on the Texans this season. I think they go 10-6 and make it to AFC championship game.

I'll co-sign on every prediction in this post, with the possible exception of Glennon being the Vikings' trade target. I do think they need to trade for someone, I'm just not sure Glennon is the best option. That roster is way too good to waste a season with Shaun Hill as your only QB option.

I like the GB Super Bowl pick. They have a very favorable schedule and I could easily see them going 13-3 and getting homefield advantage. I'm also fairly convinced Rodgers is the best QB ever, so I wouldn't mind seeing him end up with at least 2 or 3 titles.

In addition to the good points made by JK and SD above, Kaepernick plays in liberal San Francisco, the least-likely US city be upset about his remarks. Baalke and Kaepernick don't like each other though, so I think he would cut him if he had an acceptable alternative. But, he doesn't.

After Cleveland winning an NBA title, if Western wins the MAC and Green Bay wins the Super Bowl I might climb into a hole never to be seen again, you guys.

I'm smelling the aroma of looming disaster wafting up from Orchard Park.

The defence is banged up or suspended and is being run by Rob Ryan. Although they open with 5 weak teams in the first 7 weeks, I still have a bad feeling.

And the Browns may struggle to match last season's 3-13 mark.

Well, I didn't see this as one of their options, but the Vikings just traded for Sam Bradford.

Yeah, it's a great return for the Eagles considering that Bradford obviously wasn't in their long term plans.

I think the Vikes totally overpayed (why not wait a few days and see if Bradford, or someone else, gets cut?). But I think they realize that Peterson has only so much tread left on the tires, and I really think they know that Bridgewater may not be back for 2 years, if ever.

Bradford was not going to get cut, he was going to start. He actually had a good pre-season. Plus, Eagles will eat $11M of his salary. This does allow Eagles to move up the time table on Wentz if they want, too. I do agree Vikings are in win now mode. Can't piss that away. don't know when the next one comes around (see: Washington Nationals shutting down Strasburg).

While I agree you have to maximize your chances to win in any given year if the implication is they're in win now mode because of Peterson that's dumb. They have a young defense, a young QB and a solid OL. I think they'll ultimately regret losing the first rounder for a stiff like Bradford.

I tend to agree. Not because the Vikings shouldn't have made a move, but because Bradford is just so bad.

They *had* a young QB. I'd bet money that Bridgewater never starts a regular season game again.

Eh. I think the chances of Bridgewater being ready under center for the start of next season are slim to none. I also kinda think he's not going to be the same caliber QB.

Set that aside though. I think Minnesota decided that that they're an injury to say, Aaron Rodgers away from locking down the NFCN and perhaps getting a bye in the playoffs. Or, they could do nothing, and wonder 'what if'.

Don't get caught up in over valuing draft picks. There's value in dealing them, too.

For sure. But for Bradford? What upside does he have? If they would have given up a mid-round pick for him then sure. Philadelphia has to be delighted that they somehow got value back for him after the dumb deal they made for him.

The Steelers have acquired CB Justin Gilbert from Cleveland for a 2018 6th rounder. Was 8th overall in 2014, so who knows. Might be low risk, high reward. They managed to turn Ross Cockrell into a very solid corner, maybe they can get Gilbert going as well.

The backstory here is that Bayless infamously wrote a book about the Cowboys back in the 1990s, in which he asserted that Aikman was gay. Aikman has hated Bayless ever since.
