September Baseball Thread

Post by Steve of phpBB »

For the three or four of you still paying attention to baseball this fall ...

The Giants are hitless in their last 12 innings. Six of them today, thrown by Jon Lester.

Apparently this is like the tenth time he has thrown six hitless innings. I don't think he's ever made it through nine.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Ffs, giants. The wind is blowing in, but come on.

Fowler made a nice play on a brutal line drive last inning.

Steve and I tried to make a bet, but negotiations deadlocked. He insisted if I lose that I vote for Hillary; I countered with Gary Johnson. I hinted that I would settle for Jill Stein, but he muttered something about Nader and hung up the twitter.

Must be nice for both of you to not live in contested states. I'm about to throw a plush toy with a solid base through my TV from all the commercials and there's still 10 weeks to go.

I'm always following online anyway - so there aren't any political ads.

Yeah, Pence has been crushing the ball. He had three balls in play at more than 100 mph yesterday.

On local TV, the only non-PAC commercials I've seen have been for Hillary. I haven't seen a Trump commercial yet. But there have been multiple PAC commercials blasting Hillary (mostly from the NRA). The race getting the most TV commercial time so far has been between Rob Portman and Ted Strickland for the U.S. Senate seat, and almost all of them have been from PACs.

While eating lunch out a couple of days ago, I saw a Trump commercial on CNN, and shortly afterwards I saw a Gary Johnson TV ad. The latter surprised me.

Same. Trump hasn't bought a second of airtime yet, though apparently that's supposed to change this weekend (in some states at least).

As "luck" would have it though we probably have what will be the most expensive/contested Senate race in the country for Harry Reid's open seat. So that's mostly what's drawing my ire.

Maddon isn't managing by the book. I call shenanigans. Book sez bring in a reliever who throws 98. Oh, and this umpire has been all over the place, not doing Lester any favors.

Since I'm not 71 years old, I've never had a team be 40 games over.

Kinda want Tebow to somehow end up in Las Vegas (Mets AAA farm team) just because the stories, tweets and whatnot write themselves. Also I love a good train wreck. Also, dollar beer nights with me and RamsFanny. I've never trolled or mocked or otherwise catcalled a Las Vegas player but I would happily make an exception for Tebow.

Yasiel with a Lynn Swann catch for the 21st.

Ubaldo steps up when Tillman went down. Otherwise the O's are out of the playoff picture. Tillman returns tomorrow vs. Verlander.

Take 2 out of 3 in Detroit, holding Miggy hitless for the series. Gives the Birds a little bit of breathing room in the WC chase. Oh, and Jordan Zimmerman made it through 1 inning the other night (he's making 18 million this year). On to Boston!

Don't know how they can get one tonight with Miley v. Price as the series opener tonight in Fenway, but if they could somehow get 2 of 3 from Boston, that would only leave them 1 out with the next 11 in Camden...

So my Mom is going back to Chicago this week. She has tickets for this Thursday's Cubs game against Milwaukee.

If the Cubs can win 2 out of 3 in St. Louis starting tonight, then a win on Monday would clinch it. I think that would be cool for her to see.

So, c'mon. Let's get the Cubs 2 out of 3.

I think West prevented the Cubs fielders from talking to Hendricks after the HR. But mostly I think Maddon was just stalling to let Chapman warm up.

Common stall tactic but the attention-whoring dick behind the plate knew he could siphon off a little no-hitter airtime there.

As for West and Maddon, without even knowing the dispute, I assume and support whoever is arguing with Joe West.
