Was it like the Deadwood episode where Swearingen finally passed the stone?
Re: Random thoughts/images/shit that makes you feel old thread
Within the past five minutes I (a) plucked a white eyebrow hair and (b) experienced a cramp in my lower jaw from yawning.

Friends' parents dying makes me realize that time is coming (hopefully not soon) and I'm really not ready to deal with that reality. Also lost a friend who was 54 over the weekend and that always freaks me out.

My "what's up, Grimace" to my oldest, dressed in all purple, was met with confusion and now wiki tells me the character was retired 18 years ago.
Re: Random thoughts/images/shit that makes you feel old thread
I think he retired from McDonald's so he could market Purple Drank.

Re: Random thoughts/images/shit that makes you feel old thread
18 years??
The drive-thru at the McD's at the GSP Union tolls used to have paintings and I think maybe even a little menagerie of statues of the characters. Next time I drive past there I'll see if they still appear to be there and let you know.

The lady and I cleaned the master bedroom and bath tonight. I can barely stand up straight. I am mostly the bathroom guy but I can’t figure out why it’s ducked me up so bad this time.

When a player you remember from the minor leagues - after you've turned 35, moved into your adult home, and had your first kid - announces he will retire after a 21-year major league career and nearly 700 homers.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Think it was poo-holes, whose wife posted something on social media suggesting this might be his last season before back-tracking and saying she meant his last season on his current contract.

Pujols. But apparently he walked back the retirement announcement. Or his wife did, anyway.

Re: Random thoughts/images/shit that makes you feel old thread
It's only him and Cabrera among active MLBers whose careers predate The Swamp, right? Am I forgetting anyone else?

His wife texted or tweeted that he was going to retire at the end of this season, and it was all over the place for a couple of hours, and then she kinda walked it back.A_B wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 3:14 pmThat's where I was headed, but couldn't find an announcement.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 3:11 pmPujols. If the swamp is 2003, yes. If its 2004, there are two more guys.

MLB Players Active Since 2005 (by PAs):
2,077: Pujols
1,716: Cabrera
572: (catcher)
62: (3B)
7: (DH)
6: (SP)
4: (SP)
0: (SP)
0: (SP)
Seems really interesting to me that there are no relievers or SPs turned RPs on this list. You always think of them as the ones who hang on.

"PA" is short-hand for "Personally Aged" which is an advanced statistical measurement of how old thinking about said player makes a baseline level Swamper feel.

Also, surely Oliver Perez is on that list and he's a converted one.

Fangraphs doesn't have him as active roster. Whatever, Fangraphs, thanks for ruining everything.
(My list was Yadier Molina, Ryan Zimmerman, Nelson Cruz, Zack Greinke, Rich Hill, Justin Verlander, Adam Wainwright)

FFS.
My understanding is that fighters aren't that much faster then they were a few decades ago because Mach 2 is about the top speed at which pilots can handle dogfighting.

Re: Random thoughts/images/shit that makes you feel old thread
Well, since Howard, DC, and HDO aren't on the board regularly anymore, I guess I'm the oldest guy around. Feeling particularly old, today, because...
I applied to start receiving Social Security benefits. Assuming no disability, age 62 is the earliest you can start receiving benefits, and I hit that milestone this June.
You get a greater monthly dollar amount if you wait longer to start receiving your benefit, so many people work up a big present-value computation using discount rates and considering their personal life expectancy to decide the optimal point to apply for the money. But, personally, after watching Trump try to eliminate the payroll taxes that help fund social security, I'm not going to take any chances on the well running dry in my lifetime. I'm getting my money as soon as possible. I'm fortunate enough that I've got what I think is adequate retirement savings, anyway.

As you've mentioned previously, the value of your home also provides you with some security, as well. Just gotta figure out when/where the move will be.sancarlos wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 3:45 pm Well, since Howard, DC, and HDO aren't on the board regularly anymore, I guess I'm the oldest guy around.
