They pumped local anesthetic up the urethra before the procedure. That was no picnic, either.

Friends' parents dying makes me realize that time is coming (hopefully not soon) and I'm really not ready to deal with that reality. Also lost a friend who was 54 over the weekend and that always freaks me out.

18 years??

The drive-thru at the McD's at the GSP Union tolls used to have paintings and I think maybe even a little menagerie of statues of the characters. Next time I drive past there I'll see if they still appear to be there and let you know.

When a player you remember from the minor leagues - after you've turned 35, moved into your adult home, and had your first kid - announces he will retire after a 21-year major league career and nearly 700 homers.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

It's only him and Cabrera among active MLBers whose careers predate The Swamp, right? Am I forgetting anyone else?

His wife texted or tweeted that he was going to retire at the end of this season, and it was all over the place for a couple of hours, and then she kinda walked it back.

MLB Players Active Since 2005 (by PAs):
2,077: Pujols
1,716: Cabrera
572: (catcher)
62: (3B)
7: (DH)
6: (SP)
4: (SP)
0: (SP)
0: (SP)

Seems really interesting to me that there are no relievers or SPs turned RPs on this list. You always think of them as the ones who hang on.

"PA" is short-hand for "Personally Aged" which is an advanced statistical measurement of how old thinking about said player makes a baseline level Swamper feel.

Fangraphs doesn't have him as active roster. Whatever, Fangraphs, thanks for ruining everything.

(My list was Yadier Molina, Ryan Zimmerman, Nelson Cruz, Zack Greinke, Rich Hill, Justin Verlander, Adam Wainwright)

My understanding is that fighters aren't that much faster then they were a few decades ago because Mach 2 is about the top speed at which pilots can handle dogfighting.

Well, since Howard, DC, and HDO aren't on the board regularly anymore, I guess I'm the oldest guy around. Feeling particularly old, today, because...

I applied to start receiving Social Security benefits. Assuming no disability, age 62 is the earliest you can start receiving benefits, and I hit that milestone this June.

You get a greater monthly dollar amount if you wait longer to start receiving your benefit, so many people work up a big present-value computation using discount rates and considering their personal life expectancy to decide the optimal point to apply for the money. But, personally, after watching Trump try to eliminate the payroll taxes that help fund social security, I'm not going to take any chances on the well running dry in my lifetime. I'm getting my money as soon as possible. I'm fortunate enough that I've got what I think is adequate retirement savings, anyway.

As you've mentioned previously, the value of your home also provides you with some security, as well. Just gotta figure out when/where the move will be.
