He's written two articles since The Ringer started and nearly every Bill Simmons Podcast now features Joe House.

So, maybe he can get back to doing what the people give a shit about.

I was listening to the Richard Deitsch sports-media podcast yesterday, and his guests (John Ourand and Jimmy Traina) were talking about Simmon's and his show, and one of them predicted it would be cancelled after one year.

They were saying that one of the problems was the day it was on. On wednesdays, it was going to be going up against live games, and its too long after the weekend to do any reviews, and too far from the next weekend to do previews. They were wondering why HBO didn't have him do it live, and pair it with either Bill Maher on fridays or John Oliver on Sundays.

Something else to consider (and I agree it needed to be joined with Maher or Oliver): the problem with having another sports related thing taking up another day of the week just ignores that we have finite time to give to sports. Married guys who give a shit about their wives, I mean.

I think that Simmons is just bad at TV (says the guy who never saw his HBO show). He was bad on the NBA pre-game show, he was bad when filling in on PTI, and he was bad on that stupid Grantland Basketball show.

And....he's become the "Old Guy" sportswriter he used to decry. I mean, he made a big deal on his podcast that they were going to change the intro/outro music. So they finally switched...from Tupac (dead for 20 years), to Pearl Jam (great band, not exactly cutting edge).

He should just go back to what he's been good at: writing/hiring good people to work on his website/doing podcasts.

Probably via Reddit. He does AMAs in r/NBA from time to time.

But he was editor at Grantland for 4 years and has had his podcast for like 9. You accumulate followers with that level of exposure.

I'd wager that everyone who knows, say, who Joe Pos is knows Simmons but not vicey versey.

Gotta say, I still like Simmons... in small doses. I'll listen to him when he does his guess the lines schtick, but avoid the rest of it.

The podcast with Collinsworth was good too. And like everything written down, it always appears worse than it was because tone is removed from writing, to an extent. Simmons said it was a good shot. So, yea. Overblown.
