NFL - Week 12

Post by brian »

The Lions playing on Thanksgiving is one of the oldest traditions in the NFL, pre-dating all but seven NFL teams.

Somehow this is the first time Detroit and Minnesota have played on Thanksgiving since 1995 though.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Cowboys first Thanksgiving Day game.

Saw a stat this morning that this is the first Thanksgiving since 1993 that every team playing is .500 or better. (thanks Lions!)

Gonna be that kinda day where the refs dick over the Lions all day. What did Detroit ever do to Cheffers where he continually fucks over the Lions?

Which call? I though Bradford made a nice play to fling it after he was hit. And the PI looked legit.

The PI call was defensible but the issue is they never call that both ways. It was pretty light contact.

Gonna refrain from defending Jack Johnson and just say that that dude's jeans are by far the most egregious mistake so far in this game.

% say go for it? Maybe it was a really long yard.

Cant help but wonder whether the players in the happy thanksgiving commercials with their families kick the shit out their wives. Something about Mudderlyn's wife looking down seemed odd. But in the spirit of the holidays, ill go ahead and say it was the baby.

Welp the Lions have trailed in the fourth quarter of 11 straight games. If the Lions win today Stafford ties the NFL record for 4thQ comebacks in a season (with five games to play).

Yeah he was out for the first game against the Vikings so that was a difference. If the Lions beat Chicago and Green Bay at home they probably only have to win 1 of 3 at NO, NYG & Dallas to win the North. Only way that wouldn't do it is if Minnesota runs the table.)

Hyperbole perhaps - but not since the "Kardiac Kids."

But I don't think even they played as many games like the Lions.

And how pathetic a QB is Bradford that when he - and I'll paraphrase Simms here regarding the pickoff - "leaves the comfort zone" (ie throwing it 10 yards) it's a brutal pickoff that costs them the game? He makes Alex Smith look like Brett Favre.

He looked like a Nashville-clone of George Michael. And couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

When did the NFL start doing Super Bowl type half time shows on Thanksgiving? It's too much.

I found that Reba McEntire performed at the Cowboys' game in 1997 and they have had a halftime show ever since. Theirs is tied in with the start of the Salvation Army's red kettle campaign. Not sure when Detroit had their first one, but it pre-dates 2006, which was the first time the NFL had a night game on Thanksgiving (John Fogerty played both Detroit and Kansas City).

So this is a pretty bizarre stat.

The 2016 Lions are the 8th team since 2008 to trail in the fourth quarter of their first 11 games. The Lions are 7-4. The other 7 teams were 4-73 combined.

(Granted any team to trail late in 11 straight games isn't going to be good but that's still crazy.)

My dream is to watch an NFL game end with both teams equally satisfied to play out a tie. If it were Week 17, the situation would call for it right now.
