Great to have an all-american semi. Crowd really into it

She was pretty great the last two (three?, I guess) games. Man.

For all the drama and grandeur of the Williams/Stephens match, to follow it up with that stinker kinda stunk.

I like Coco. I root for her when she plays. I dig that she's a little brash and dirty and gets fired up out there. I can't seem to parse what happened last night other than she was just out of gas or in her head. Take nothing away from Keys, she brought the thunder, but Coco just looked so flat. I was looking forward to a high intensity showdown and I got Chris Sale pitching at high school kids.

Super stoked for Keys/Stephens though. That match should be hot fire.

Sloane Stephens is so pretty, as well as your US Open champion. Boring ass match, though.

Yeah, that was a very strange final. One of them took their big girl pills, the other obviously didn't. I like Keys, but getting skunked in the second set was... underwhelming in terms of fortitude.

I'm too lazy to go look, but that's gotta be one of the lamest closing combos in US Open history.

No linesmen at the ATP NextGen tourney in Milan, the chair umpire will be the only human on court aside from the competitors (and ball kids).

LONDON — There won’t be anyone for players to argue calls with at this tennis tournament: They’re getting rid of the line judges entirely.

The men’s tour announced Monday that the Next Gen ATP Finals, a season-ending event for top 21-and-under players, will feature electronic line-calling for all shots. It’s the first time this is being tried at an ATP tournament.

Jeff Bezos is an ugly dude, but I'd still fuck him for like $10 million?

How the hell does she still look so young? Sure, only 36 but she looks 16.

Halep and Davis are 13-12 in the 3rd set.

Halep has served for the match 3 times and failed, she has also saved 3 match points.

I'm watching the Thiem-Mannarino match now. I find Thiem maddening to watch. His groundstrokes are so freaking good that if he had any semblance of an attacking game, he could easily win Grand Slams. But, like most players on the men's tour, Thiem just sits on the baseline and doesn't try to shorten points. Federer can still win Grand Slams in his mid-30s because he's still pretty much the only guy on Tour who knows how to construct an attacking point.

Serena and Federer might win slams into their 40s.

Thiem has turned himself into a clay court specialist. He plays the mighty Tennys Sandgren next in the 4th round.
Zverev lost to Chung. For a guy ranked 4th, he's never beaten a top 50 player in a slam. Fitness is his issue.

Kerber crushed Sharapova (I am not a sharapova fan) and looks like she is healthy and on a mission. But watch Osaka, she can play. Halep won a long match. I don't know if her ankle will be a factor

Djokovic looks healthy so far, he and Fed in same half. Kyrgios-Dimitrov match should be good, and Kyrgios could give Nadal a hard time.

Looks like we’re headed for another Cilic-Federer final — hopefully this time more competitive than at Wimbledon. Nadal just retired while down 0-2 to Cilic in the 5th set. Cilic will Kyle Edmund, an unseeded darkhorse, in one semifinal.

On the other side of the draw, Federer will have to get through Berdych in the quarters, but would then face an unseeded player in the semis.

When’s the last time there were two unseeded semifinalists in a men’s major? Has that even happened since they switched from 16 seeds to 32?

ETA: The unseeded American in Federer's half of the draw, Tennys Sandgren (yes that's his real first name), is apparently a far-right loon and Pizzagate truther. Guess I'll have to root for Hyeon Chung to knock him out in the quarters.

Federer really is something. It sure looked like Cilic had him on the ropes in that first game of the fifth set, but then you blink and it’s a 6-1 set the other way. During Federer’s peak years (2004-07), he did that to good players all the time. They’d miss an opportunity for a break and then just get streamrolled.
