Even in Mississippi they don't do that shit out loud anymore. You only find that in soccer games in Eastern Europe.Giff wrote:So no discussion of the Red Sox game that apparently took place in Mississippi last night?
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

The Cubs' first-inning ERA so far is 10.80.
Their ERA for the other innings is 3.17.

Should do what UEFA does and next time Baltimore plays a series at Fenway, make them play it in front of an empty stadium.

First of all, those fans could have come from Maine, or Vermont, or Rhode Island, or Western Mass, or even some parts of Connecticut. Not fair for Boston to assume the blame of everyone from all over the biggest sports fan "Nation" in the country.

Re: MLB 2017- May
You are (intentionally?) missing the larger point. It may not have been a fan from Boston but it was a fan of Boston. Not only was the thinking behind the behavior beyond troubling but that the fan felt comfortable enough in his surroundings to put it on public display. While Adam Jones' number of 60 fans ejected has been refuted by the Red Sox to be only around 30, that is 30 too many. There are surely racist fans of every major team and of course we would all like to eradicate racism but that is a long process. It is the culture where 30 people are comfortable enough to be publicly racist that needs to be addressed immediately. That is, at the moment, a uniquely 'fan of Boston' problem.Ryan wrote:First of all, those fans could have come from Maine, or Vermont, or Rhode Island, or Western Mass, or even some parts of Connecticut. Yeah, excuse me for thinking that 30 fucking people getting ejected from a game for racial taunts is funny. That's seriously some fucked up retrograde Eastern European soccer shit. Not just one guy or a couple of guys, like several rows worth of guys. Unless it was "Alt-Right Night" or something like that hard to find an excuse for it or try to explain it away or make fun of it.

Making a joke tangentially related to something terrible = thinking that terrible thing is funny. Cool beans. I'm sure that never happens around here.

Re: MLB 2017- May
I don't think there's any suggestion that all 30 people were ejected for racial taunts. In fact, I believe the team said that most of the ejections were for alcohol or marijuana related issues. Not that this excuses the behavior of the fans who were taunting Jones -- and it's clear from CC Sabathia's comments today that Boston fans are particularly bad. But there's a big difference between 1 or 2 guys making racial comments and dozens of guys doing that.brian wrote:Yeah, excuse me for thinking that 30 fucking people getting ejected from a game for racial taunts is funny. Re: MLB 2017- May
I don't think anyone's suggesting the issue is unique to Boston, but it seems to be especially prevalent or pervasive there. You've even got Mookie Betts and David Price saying they've had racial comments directed at them and they play for the Red Sox.
So while MLB will probably be happy to just sweep this under the rug and the 99 percent of non-racist Red Sox fans will probably give Jones a standing ovation tonight (as they should) it's probably something that deserves a little bit of attention from the Red Sox and/or MLB.

Re: MLB 2017- May
Maybe the issue is as simple as the fans there (for whatever reason) feel more emboldened to actually verbalize these kinds of things and this will serve as the kind of attention and spotlight that will help give other fans the stones to "police" that kind of stuff, call security, etc.
This is what happens in European soccer from time to time. Fans might feel intimidated by those shouting the taunts because in some cases you're dealing with actual neo-Nazis. I'm not at all suggesting that's the case here, but I can see how some fans would feel reticent about involving security. Maybe that will no longer be the case.

Whoa guys let's settle down here, I think I know what's going on, we're all a little frustrated and disappointed this didn't happen at a Cardinals game first.

Ryan's probably earned enough humor capital that we all knew that was a joke. He's the least masshole of all them.

The best part of the joke was he omitted New Hampshire from the list of states. To me, that makes his comment an obvious joke.A_B wrote:Ryan's probably earned enough humor capital that we all knew that was a joke. He's the least masshole of all them.

Yeah, man. Definitely don't want to do something like not optimize defensive alignment by having one of them in left and Frazier in center. Would suck.

Also, the Reds' starting staff is truly a sight to behold at the moment. Here are the collective numbers for persons who have take the mound to start a Reds game in 2017;
26 games started with 122 2/3 innings pitched - still averaging just 4.7 innings per start.
6.09 ERA. 1.51 whip. Just 109 Ks on top of 62 walks.
And that includes Amir Garrett's four good starts out of five. I mean, that's simply breathtaking work. I am in awe.
