Are you telling me that ESPN could not have worked with any of these organizations to do live events for the special day? Most of this is taped stuff you can watch on youtube. Are you telling me you don't remember the compelling Iran v. India Kabaddi final. Troy Bacon and US squad did go 0-5 but not really a bad showing for a team or folks who had never played before.
But seriously ESPN could have easily pulled off a College Basketball 24 hour ESPN Ocho athon type thing and these organizations would have bent over to make it happen.
My guess is ESPN 8 is some summer project that the Interns were allowed to pull off. I had a buddy who did an internship at ESPN and this sounds like something he would have done (his project was video work to help differentiating CNN/SI and the new ESPN news channels). Unfortunately he was not involved in this.....
ETA: If you read the article, Simmons himself essentially admits he didn't actually come up with the (ESPN6) joke and that it's an easy joke.
Yeah, that sounds right. He was making that joke before he went to ESPN though, back in his Boston Sports Guy days. He had to dial back his criticism of sports media after he joined the WWLIS.

They need to add Headis coverage:
How many stitches from bashing your head into the corner of the table happen at these things? It's incredible to watch. Lot of day after sore necks I'm guessing.
Good story. Though based on most of my interactions with cigar smokers, a drone strike while that event is happening would probably make the world a better place overall.

Nothing kills a night out like someone smoking a cigar in proximity to my table at a bar. It smells like fetid gopher anus, only more aggressive.

Where the hell can you still smoke a cigar at a bar, besides a cigar bar?

Literally almost anywhere in Las Vegas (where smoking is allowed at least).

I actually prefer the smell of cigars to cigarettes but I’m not especially fond of “cigar guys”.

I laughed. But your decision to include the adjective makes me wonder if you’ve ever smelled some nicely aromatic gopher anus?

There was a loophole at some bars with outdoor patios. Shocking in this most liberal of enclaves.

I assumed it was in the Constitution that overweight plutocrats have to be allowed to smoke cigars anywhere and everywhere in the vicinity of the District of Columbia. It's practically a meme.

A guy I work with occasionally told me a story of when he and a group of co-workers were at Captial Grill and the waiter asked them if they minded if the group at the next table smoked cigars. They said it was okay and, shortly after, a bottle of wine with a sticker of several hundred dollars made its way to their table as a thank you.

Cup stacking now!!
You stack cups for 45 seconds and in the end, the Germans win.
Mark your calendars. My jam is going on the Deuce in November. Should be a lot of fun to watch if you're looking for some entertainment. Especially if some of the top guys are competitive.
Give me Kevin Jones to win, Cale Leviska to Place, James Conrad to Show
