Finally got around to watching this show. Part way into Season 3, still not sure about it. Man, is it fucking weird. Just watched the Pickle Rick episode. I was beginning to think it jumped the shark, but then it got really deep into the family dynamic, and when he killed the rats and co-opted their bodies... genius.

I catch something new many times when I re-watch old episodes. It really is a smart show.

Explain what I am missing. I've tried (despite my preference to not support bad human Dan Harmon). Let me know and maybe I'll give it a legitimate shot.

I started them a few weeks ago. It's something I only watch without the wife as it isn't anything she would care for at all. I think I'm about 8 episodes in and I like the sheer absurdity of it.

There’s that. I also think there’s a very subversive nihilism to it as well though not a destructive nihilism but a realistic one that we only have one life/existence and we need to maximize our enjoyment while trying to not ruin the enjoyment of others. It is able to use other dimensions/realities as a Trojan horse to explore why we don’t necessarily denounce small-mindedness and ignorance.

Oh it is definitely layered and packed with nuance. I think it's one that you can rewatch and pick up new things you missed.

On top of being funny, it is one of the smartest shows on tv.

Is your wife like mine where she laughs every time she actually sees it then proclaims she hates it? When I say it, I mean adult cartoons in general.

My wife does that for BoJack but she legit hates Rick & Morty.

Oh I know she wouldn't like it.

I've actually never watched it but imagine that will change soon given our current circumstances.

I think my wife secretly likes Archer also, but would also never admit it.

I like Rick and morty but am finding it a bit too dark for this particular timeline at the moment.

I feel the same way about The Handmaid's Tale (though not Rick & Morty as much as you). So I get it.

I randomly noticed it was on a couple weeks ago and watched one episode and loved it, but it was late so I went to bed instead of watching another. Last night I was scrolling and saw it was on so I was going to watch another episode. It was the same damn episode! So eventually I'll get around to just streaming them all in order.

They're in 'marathon mode' on adultswim.com. Not convenient for watching them in order but nevertheless free.

BTW, another nice feature of YoutubeTV is that it automatically organizes recorded shows. So if you record a show like Rick and Morty and reruns come on at random times in random order, it still sorts it all by season and episode, so you can watch it all in order if you want.
