Missed this post. Yeah, that was an amazing sequence. I was watching it and was sure UVA was going to score. I thought they had on the last one because the net moved!

UVA got their revenge indirectly this weekend by waxing #1 Notre Dame 15-10 in South Bend.

Maryland vs. Hopkins is a instant classic. 125th matchup between the teams (if you go with the JHU definition). No team has had more than a 1 goal lead all game. Physical. Skillful. Just a great one.

Thankfully, no scores here so I can look up the replay to see who won.

Both semi-finals yesterday went to overtime. But on closer review in the first game, the winning goal should not have counted as the Duke player had his foot in the crease.

The Virginia loss hurt. They had that game, but a couple of late bad possessions on both offense and defense left the door open and Notre Dame marched through it.

The head ref in this game (red arm band) is a guy I ref with during the year (elementary school gym teacher). He is also an ACC football ref and did XFL games this year. The short guy on the crew is from Baltimore/JHU lacrosse royalty. He is an SEC football ref (did the Las Vegas bowl this past year) and a firefighter.

World Championship start tomorrow. All games are on ESPN family (mostly ESPN+ but there are some good ones on the ESPN2)

If you don't care about Latvia v. Ireland or such maybe watching games at 1, 4, 7, and 10 every day won't move you. But tomorrow night you have USA v. Canada on the Deuce. It will be a great game (As the likely rematch in the finals). When both those teams take on the Haudenosaunee (coached by UVA's Lars Tiffany) it will be good ones. Australia, England, Germany, Israel (who have a guy named Ronen Abromovich), and Japan are that 2nd tier that will be fun to watch when they play each other. Jamaica, Wales, and Ireland will be okay because of the heavy US influence on those teams.

Folk are thinking there may be a tipping point for a bunch of small liberal arts schools that don't have the academic/brand (i.e. US News rankings). The kids at Cabrini don't even get admission to Villanova. They are getting placed into one of 3 other schools in the area (Eastern being one).

Playoffs at the world championship set. US and Canada get buys to the quarter finals.

Puerto Rico could upset England...helps that Puerto Rico has a star from JHU leading the team.
Japan should beat Germany
Australia should beat the Dutch
Jamaica versus Long Island (I mean Italy)....both are heavy on US College players.
Hong Kong/China v. Haudenosaunee...blow out going to the creators of the game.
Ireland v. Israel....Israel (Baltimore/New York/Baltimore and one guy from Tel Aviv) will get a chance to play US

Dave Pietramala....legend player and coach is moving on from Syracuse to UNC (Assistant in both cases after the firing/not resigning/whatever you want to call it from JHU 2 years ago). Oh his twin boys will start their 2nd year with the Tar Heels this fall. Much like Gait and Petro being friend/teammates/opponents, UNC's coach was part of that generation (teammates on club and national teams).

UVA just signed the #1 player in the 2025 class, Brendan Millon. His older brother, McCabe Millon was also the #1 player in his class and is now a first-year at UVA.

While two brothers each being #1 in the country is amazing enough, I learned that their parents are BOTH in the lacrosse hall of fame. That's a pretty fucking incredible family legacy. I can't think of anything quite like it.

Mark Million was a star. Not just a Hall of Famer, but maybe the best attackmen of all time. Also his brother Tony was a Towson star and 15 year pro.

The Million kids are good, but right now you also have the Kirst Family (3 or 4 of them are d1 players...3 made the US indoor training team that just won a big tournament) and Spallinas (dad Joe is Stony Brook Coach, Joey is going to his 2nd year at Cuse..starter as a freshman and got the famed 22 jersey and big NIL deal, another one just committed to Cuse, and one more in high school)

Dave Pietramala (Best dman of all time) has 2 kids playing at UNC who are very good.

Billy Dwan (associate coach for Petro at JHU) kid plays at Cuse (and his uncle is associate head coach at Loyola)

Henry Ciccarone (hopkins legendary coach) had all 4 of his kids play for Hopkins and his grandkids have a collection of college players.

Not sure but the star lax married couples are not unique. A few come to mind.
Kellie Amonte Hiller (Northwestern Head Coach ...and yes her brothers are the NHLers) is married to a multiple time National Teamer. She is a HoFer...one their daughters is a state champ wrestler.

Another national team duo is Courtney Martinez Connor (tippy's daughter) and Casey Connor from Maryland.
