I checked and the theory was mostly debunked. I was wondering if he had a really, really low number of innings in LF and just got fooled by the tail (or lack of tail) on Bird's ball but it doesn't really bear out. He only has 491 career innings in LF, but 411 were this year when he had almost a 50/50 split between LF and CF.

Yankees being in the North and not the East is very upsetting.

Sure, let's devalue the dead-ass regular season even more by making it virtually impossible to break records and letting even more teams in the playoffs

Hard to believe the owners would go for three less home games every year. I could totally see them expanding the post season though.

Yeah, the proposal cites decreased travel costs offsetting the lost revenue as if the owners wouldn't just choose decreased travel costs without a loss of revenue.

Also, take it to the offseason thread, losers. This is for the playoffs.

Regardless of outcome, I think Houston is right to go with McCullers here. Even with a loss, Keuchel + Verlander + Morton with 2 at home makes them better than even odds to win, and he's the type of pitcher who could go lights out for 5 and steal it.

I would split the New York and Chicago teams. There’s no need for them to play 12 games against each other every year, and it would allow a little more flexibility in shuffling the other teams. I just don’t think it is very likely at all that MLB will place the Mets in what is basically the 1980’s AL East.

I'm a little biased but the "well we're still playing in a totally different series than that historic collapse" gambit just falls a bit short of fire for me dawg.

Starlin is like the worst possible hitter here. Runner on 1st, one out and he’s the perfect combo of high contact and low hitter IQ. GIDP waiting to happen.

same franchise tied 2 2 in the nlcs with clemens pettite and oswalt lined up. that was brutal but familiar. it just feels...bad. we have to get near perfect complete games from keuchel and verlander again

Justin Verlander has never lost an ALDS or ALCS elimination game (3-0), so you have that going for you.

At least he'll actually have a game this time.

I'm assuming the Dodgers start Kershaw in game 1 on full rest. But does that mess with the rest of the rotation who will all be on extra long rest?

They've already said Kershaw will pitch Game 1. As for the other guys, even if they pitched Game 1 Darvish and Hill would be on 6 or 8 days' rest, respectively, so they'll be on extra rest no matter what. I think the question is whether they go with Hill or Darvish for Game 2. I believe Hill has pretty significant home/road splits, so I'd guess he gets tabbed for Games 2 and 6, with Darvish getting 3 and 7.

I had forgotten that they changed the home-field advantage rule.

Twitter seems to dislike this move but I don't see the problem given the defense is "look at what they've done in the regular season". Its a stacked roster, Baker didn't manage them into a gutter but he also made plenty of dumb decisions and seemed lost on the Wieters play. He's probably a poor man's Maddon in that players seem to like him, but that only goes so far. And really, all of that is superfluous is Harper doesn't like him or believe in him. No idea if he does or doesn't, but I can't imagine the Nats making this decision without his input and his input has to rule right now.

If I may admit something, this has a worrying 2001 World Series feel. Down 2-0 on the road, lots of fun coming back at home to take a 3-2 lead ... if they announce Keuchel for Game 7 early enough it might be complete.

I don't have a strong rooting interest but I have the opposite feel. I have a hunch the Yankees are going to tag Verlander for at least 4 runs and close it out tonight.
