Why not?

Going to the NHL model for the All-Star game. I like it. If on;y becuase i'd like to see Lebron troll Kyrie when the picking starts. Or alternatively Kyrie stonewall Lebron after Boston inexplicably makes Kyrie the top vote-getter.

I've seen a response to the new All-Star rule saying that it should be top 24 players in the league, not top 12 in each conference, which makes all the sense in the world, so it won't happen.

How is Carmelo's blog anyway?

I am so unreal excited about this. The 12 each conference is dumb, but whatever, it's still a huge improvement over the old all-star games. The post picking drama on twitter will give me life.

I don't like putting any stock in preseason, but I'm pretty sure anyone who questioned Paul and Harden being able to play together (including myself) are entirely incorrect. 24 3s!

I saw it on twitter, I believe something Amin Elhassan RT'd.

Am I missing something else?

Highlights from Clippers games will be fun now, as I won't have to see through my Chris Paul hate. The new PG looks awesome.

He's fun as hell to watch. I'll miss P-Bev. I've always hated Paul, but that's probably going to melt away very soon.

Hey there's that Election Night tummy feeling again! This orthopedic surgeon on the local halftime show is optimistic that he could come back this season. I'm guessing this assumes they find his foot.

On an up note for the Celtics - you still have a coaching savant running things.

Stevens really is the best. I loved some of the action the Celtics ran tonight with Kyrie playing off the ball. The Hayward injury is brutal, though. The East is very weak, so they should still make the playoffs but I think they would've gotten the #1 seed if they stayed healthy. As for Cleveland, LeBron is still the man and a uniquely overwhelming force, but it's going to be a challenge for Lue to get the new pieces to fit together.

Guys - the Warriors may be good.

Also, Nick Young is on the team and no longer misses shots.

Wow, too bad the warriors/rockets game tipped at 11:00 pm est - I could only make it to halftime and rockets outscored the warriors by 14 in fourth to win 122-121. That’s a great outcome for ramping up interest in the season (and an awesome throwback final score).

ETA: Just saw that Draymond missed 4th due to a knee issue of some sort - that partially explains it. Warriors can't have him off court when it matters defensively...

Also, that comeback was with Houston's "old" team - not Chris Paul led. Paul's night was kinda meh. Still not sure how that move will help Houston in long run.

Tough day for NBA players. Nikola Mirotic ends up with a broken face after trash talking at practice with Portis. Too bad it was not the other way around because Portis Head Injury would have confused some trip hop fans.

Burneko's NBA preview for Deadspin is awesome:

https://deadspin.com/a-timely-preview-o ... 1819147024

A taste:

Utah Jazz

What is their deal?

They went 51-31 in 2016-17; it only seems like half the teams in the NBA did that. Like the Blazers the season before, they snuck past the injury-wracked Clippers in the first round; like the Blazers the round before, they got swept by the Warriors in the second. Then two of their three best players bolted. I don’t think they’re gonna go 51-31 this season.

Who are the important hoops-doers on this team?

It’s the Rudy Gobert show, now. Gordon Hayward’s gone; George Hill is gone; less importantly, so are Boris Diaw, Trey Lyles, and Shelvin Mack. They added Ricky Rubio to replace Hill, and it’s possible he’s an upgrade, though he sure as hell never actually made the Timberwolves good in any of the, like, 31 straight seasons everybody kept expecting him to do that. Anyway, yeah, Rudy Gobert. He’s very tall, blocks lots of shots, and I would not bet any amount of money against him going the way of Roy Hibbert over the next three seasons, because he can’t switch on defense and his offensive game ends at the borders of the restricted circle.

Mostly I have not mentioned rookies here, but Donovan Mitchell seems like he will be extremely cool and good. He was bananas in summer league. His arms are longer than my legs! He’ll have a chance to shine, probably, now that poor Dante Exum is out for yet another season with yet another awful, completely unfair injury.

Are they good?

They’re fine.

Should I watch them?

No.

Are their new uniforms cool?

No.

Grizzlies:

It’s still Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, both of whom are still great and still maybe not quite as highly regarded by casual fans as they ought to be, and who taken together still do not give the Grizzlies anywhere near enough firepower to be a serious threat to the topmost teams in the Western Conference. The solution to this gap is supposed to be Chandler Parsons, I guess. What the Grizzlies will do about his splintered popsicle-stick skeleton is unknown at this time. Chandler Parsons couldn’t walk from my house to my mailbox without shattering his pelvis.

Ben Simmons is going to be a superstar. If he ever develops a 3 point shot, he has the potential to become the best player in the league. But even without one he's got a combination of size, ball handling and passing skills comparable to Giannis.

When he is locked in he's crazy good. But he had a lot of lazy ad LsU. Likely because of crappy teammates but still something he has to do better in NBA.

He basically admitted that he didn't give a shit about college basketball and that he thought it was a joke that he had to wait a year to go pro. So I'm not too concerned about his work ethic in the NBA. Fultz also played pretty well tonight in a bench role, although (unsurprisingly) John Wall made him look bad on a few plays.

Would be very curious about how the parking situation finally played out. Seems like he was walking away from the arena not rolling in a BMW.

The fact it was sponsored by Seat Geek seems to indicate that it was really just for laughs and fake AF. I still find it a bit entertaining.

I watched the first half of that game and Pat Beverley went out of his way to bully Lonzo. Beverley might be the best defensive point guard in the NBA and he was definitely playing with some extra venom last night.
