If we win, its pretty much going to have to be behind a game 6 complete game from Verlander. Nobody else can be allowed to pitch...we have the worst bullpen in world series history. We cant win a game seven...its verlander or nothing. hes going to have to give us one more god tier start. Im so nervous, but I feel like we have a shot. Verlander has been god tier since we acquired him, and nobody is hitting better than altuve. ive waited mywhole life for an astros world series win, and I cant imagine it being any closer. its a weird situation because i truly believe this dodgers team would have crushed the yankees or red sox, and i honestly think the astros would have destroyed the cubs and diamondbacks. Both teams deserve a ring this year, its unfortunate that one is going to lose it. the dodgers lineup is nasty, bellinger is a beast, puig is fun, and just turner is a great hitter and one of the ugliest players in modern history. I know some people want the astros to lose because of gurriels racist gesture, and i get that point of view, but Altuve and Correa are both amazingly talented and genuinely great players, and standup guys. Verlander deserves a ring. Altuve deserves it. Correa deserves it...this is the best baseball team houston has ever fielded, including thqt rotation that started oswalt, pettitte and clemens. springer and gonzalez get overlooked because of all the other talent around them. beltran, gurriel, mccann can all go deep. Gattis can bomb homers..the only real offensive liability in the lineup is Reddick. I wish they would start beltran or maybin. if i was managing, my lineup would be

1. Springer LF
2. Bregman 3b
3. Altuve 2b
4. Correa SS
5. Gurriel 1b
6. Gonzales CF
7. McCann C
8. Beltran RF
9. Verlander P

with reddick, gattis available to pinch hit, and maybin and fisher available to pinch run. it wont happen, but getting beltran in as a swithc hitter and benching reddick makes sense to me...reddick just isnt hitting this world series, and McCann is a better catcher then Gattis.

Considering Verlander is one of the worst hitting pitchers in MLB history (seriously, look it up) it’s funny to see him batting in an elimination game. Not a dig or a DH rant, just an observation.

I'd let him bat. LA will have been 2 pitchers deep into their bullpen already. Verlander needs to go deep.

I agree. I think in the scenario where Verlander is pulled for a pinch hitter and the Astros are tied or up 1 late, Morton is a good option to bring in if Hinch doesn't trust any of his relievers. Given how the Astros bullpen is struggling badly and the Dodgers bullpen looked completely worn down in Game 5, I find the coaching dynamics tonight to be fascinating. Especially if Hill and/or Verlander struggles early or runs up a pitch count.

This is why I like non-DH baseball. It forces the strategic decision of offense vs defense.

And you never know, your pitcher can hit a bases-clearing triple. (Or get a bases-loaded walk, but that would never happen.)
