Yeah, this is just one more notch in the ShitShow Belt wrapped around Trump and the GOP-controlled Congress. And that's the way it is polling by the way, not just my opinion. I think it was an ABC poll out yesterday, but it had a majority pinning this on Trump and the republicans in Congress.

many yeara ago when I turned 21 one of the gifts I recieved was a lifetime membership to the NRA. I am now so thoroughly disgusted by the organization that Ive been unsuccessfully googling how to revoke a lifetime membership in the NRA. as of yet I havent found a way to do it, but I hopeI figure it out soon. Things have gone to shit. Yes I own guns and yes I believe in the sexond amendment, but I dont want to support an organization like that anymore. I hate the things I used to think about America and I hate the things I think about it now even more.

You could swap out the name, and replace it with almost every person working in the White House. I see a lot of Dems on Twitter complaining about this deal, but it extends CHIP and at least gets McConnell on the record as agreeing to put DACA up for a vote. I don't see the need to keep the federal government closed for more than that. If Turtle McTurtleson is negotiating in bad faith, then we'll be right back here again in three weeks.

I think it comes down to whether there was anything bad in this bill (such as approval for the Wall).

Otherwise I think this is a great move, because CHIP is now funded for six years. (Of course, no one I know is likely to be deported in the next three weeks.)

Not that I've seen. But as usual I think Charles Pierce nails it.

My tepid support for this deal is based not on faith in McConnell or Trump to negotiate honestly, but mostly on the fact that the Dems didn't really give up anything to get it. They got CHIP off the table as a negotiating tactic and just moved the clock forward a few weeks. I think the Republicans still somehow think that their messaging is working and the Dems are being blamed for this shutdown, but they're not and they won't be three weeks from now either.

yeah, I don't understand the bitching about it either. I'm also grudgingly OK with (while being morally opposed to) wall funding being included if it's only $1.6B. It's a massive fucking waste that could be positively used 1000s of different ways, but it also feels like a small enough amount that it'll be inconsequential.

And the government is re-open. I don't agree with using people's incomes and lives as a negotiating tactic unlike the Republicans.

The GOP promised a good-faith negotiation on DACA and if they don't live up to that, that's another thing they'll pay for in November.

*If* they agreed to fund the wall. Do you have a link for that? Because I've been looking and can't really find anything that clearly says one way or the other.

And even then, the fact that CHIP is "already in existence" doesn't give much comfort to the vulnerable people relying on it who have received notices that because CHIP expired four months ago, services are going to stop as soon as funds run out, which will be any day now.

It sucks being in the minority.

Also, unless I'm missing something, this six-year CHIP expansion is not being paired with cuts in other health care spending. Previous Republican "offers" to extend CHIP required spending reductions on Medicaid or other programs.

I suppose it's good in a way that the base is energized, but negotiation is not capitulation. Especially with another deadline three weeks away. If you're looking at this from a glass half full perspective it's more evidence that there's a huge tide coming in November (assuming something crazy doesn't happen before then).

My problem with all of this, is the Republicans refused to continue funding CHIP in order to use it as a bargaining, well, chip, to get other shit they couldn't get passed. Same with DACA, Trump created the DACA crisis, said he wants to see Congress pass a Dreamers Act, Many GOP Congressmen agreed we need to protect the Dreamers, then blame the Dems for the shutdown. McCaskill tried to pass funding for the military during a shutdown, McConnell refuses to allow it to go to a vote, then the Right blames the Dems for our servicemen going unpaid. It's fucking lunacy, and I see smart people falling for it, screaming about how the Dems hate the government, don't care about kids on CHIP... Seriously, it's the Dems who don't want to provide poor children with government sponsored health care? How fucking stupid are people?
