Oh look, Preet was apprehensive in calling you know who a you know what last night on Bill Maher's show. It's like they're two of us!

(I do have to say it drives me fucking nuts when Bill butts in every other second when you don't immediately agree with him.)

For starters, I think Shannon is right and it would be kind of nice to someone in the political media to even remotely acknowledge it.

Love that interplay between someone using classic fiction tropes and a guy who gets it.

Trump can't be analyzed as if he is Charles Foster Kane - Shannon is right, there are no hidden levels to the guy.

"He's having the time of his fucking life." People salute him for God's sake!

The only place I differ is I don't think its pure bliss, I think there's a manic insecurity side too that needs to be even more exploited.

I think that's fair/accurate. Not to dig too deep, but it seems pretty obvious to me at least that he's mentally unstable/unwell so that all plays into it, but basically it all comes down to him not being able of any kind of reflection (neither self-reflection or any kind of critical thought, period). He's all id. He can see a story on Fox and Friends one morning saying that we should get back on the gold standard and by the afternoon the economists in the White House have to have explained to him 100 times why that would be a horrible idea. But when you're a fountain of horrible ideas, all the gatekeepers in the world aren't going to keep some of the bad ideas from leaking out. (And of course, many of the really horrible ideas are well-beloved right-wing dogma and as such aren't going to be rejected.)

TRUMP DIGS (the) COAL
But it’s a tremendous form of energy in the sense that in a military way — think of it — coal is indestructible.

You can blow up a pipeline, you can blow up the windmills. You know, the windmills, boom, boom, boom [mimicking windmill sound] bing [mimes shooting large gun], that’s the end of that one. If the birds don’t kill it first. The birds could kill it first. They kill so many birds. You look underneath some of those windmills, it’s like a killing field, the birds. But you know, that’s what they were going to, they were going to windmills. And you know, don’t worry about — when the wind doesn’t blow, I said, ‘What happens when the wind doesn’t blow?’ ‘Well, then we have a problem.’

Okay, good. They were putting them in areas where they didn’t have much wind, too. And it’s a subs — you need subsidy for windmills. You need subsidy. Who wants to have energy where you need subsidy? So, uh, the coal is doing great.

From CNN’s article:
As part of the plea deal under discussion, Cohen is not expected to cooperate with the government, one source said.

Bummer. Though guessing that means he's not getting much of a sweetheart deal for his plea. Wonder if there's state charges to be made against him as well. That would be funny.

Manafort guilty on 8 counts. No idea which ones.

They could still prosecute the other 10... Depends on lots of factors, but it's not like he's free and clear of the ones they jury couldn't come to a decision on.

CNN saying that if sentencing is harsh, he's looking at over 70 years.

That was quite a 10 minutes of news. Cohen pleads out and Manafort guilty on 8 of 18, hung jury on other 10.

And now Cohen is admitting in his plea that he is guilty of campaign finance law, specifically around the hush money payments to Daniels and McDougal. He did it with coordination and direction from Trump.

So, there's that, I guess.

Five false tax returns, two bank frauds, and one failure to file the FBAR statement? But they found him guilty on only one of the four FBAR counts and hung on the other three.

No one knows what time Manafort is really facing until they run the guilty charges through the sentencing guidelines.

edited b/c Steve got the counts in first

Definitely curious to see what the actual sentence will be. My bet is no where close to the max

To make matters worse, authorities found the body of that missing U. of Iowa college student today and have charged an undocumented immigrant with her murder. Pence has already met with the girl’s family so I fear that Trump will make this a cause celebre for himself.

Huge grain of salt and all that, but if you think there's a chance in hell Omarosa might have saved anything good up to now (I don't), then Trump's day might get even worse:
