Just blasted through the 6* part series called Dr. Death, about a neuro-surgeon who wound up essentially killing 2 patients and severely injuring 33 overall before he was finally stopped.

Really well done, if at times disturbing and difficult to listen to...

BTW, this is the same company, wondery.com, that put out Dirty John. You might start seeing trailers for the movie that is being aired on Bravo based on this podcast.

I only bring that up because it's an outfit that looks a lot like gimlet, in terms of cranking out superior podcasts. I've been hunting for some new series and I think this is gonna be a gold mine.

I listen Business Wars and American History Tellers by Wondery. They are pretty interesting and an easy listen. They don't go into deep-dives but do give good perspectives. They all seem to be written by/based on existing books.

He's a regular on all the Ringer football podcasts, and I have to say that Mike Lombardi is the worst name dropper in NFL history.

Listening to him on "Against All Odds" today and I was yelling as I was driving. He makes it sound like he was a vital cog in the good Raiders teams, the Walsh 49ers and Belichick's Patriots.

Sorry, but fuck that guy.

How many times did he make analogies to other sports? When I used to listen to him on Simmons's podcasts I thought you could make a good drinking game out of that.

Or references to "Goodfellas" and "The Godfather."

Lombardi was the guy who went after Doug Pederson - the least qualified Coach in the NFL, a ridiculous hire etc. etc.

Seriously, fuck that guy.

Listen to episode 6 if you really want to get pissed and want to punch anyone that mutters blue lives matter.

Actually, the other episodes pissed me off too. This country is fucked.

yup, it's a great series so far and the last episode about the police was a real eye opener.
you should listen to the latest reply all (2 parts) which discusses the NYPD's race to arrest anyone to add to stats. That'll piss you off.

Speaking of podcasts, I happened to go through my other laptop with the Swampcasts from 2010 that Bronto, me, and various other did. Ill have to upload them and link them. Is YouTube the best for that?

Heavyweight on Gimlet is back with a new season.

That is an extremely under-rated podcast. The first episode is with Rob Corddry and it's just excellent story-telling.

Charlotte Wilder has a new podcast on SI Network. I dig her and her co-host so far. I'm finding more and more I enjoy female led sports stuff rather than the male dominated stuff. More nuance, better discussion, less "WELL IF I WAS THAT GUY" or "HE'S GOTTA BE TOUGHER THAN THAT!".

This season has really interested me. I don't know if it's because I have a little bit of experience in criminal defense, or maybe because I'm considerably more empathetic to these defendants than the ones in the first two seasons.

East Cleveland to me sounds a lot like Camden, in that it's a blown-out smaller city adjacent a much larger one, except it doesn't have the advantages of the larger core city next to it (larger tax base, people who give a shit about it), but all the same problems (drugs, race relations, an aggressive police force).

I had the Pod Save America YouTube stream up last night. It was awful. Lots of dead air and barely any talking all night.

However, it looks like I missed the show on Twitch with Chapo Trap House:

I've listened to Pod Save America and Lovett or Leave It every episode since the beginning, and about a month ago, I just couldn't listen anymore. Tried to watch their first HBO Show, and I'm just done. Couldn't watch for more than 5 minutes. More burned out from all the negative news and the politics in DC and Trump. The deeper my understanding of how truly horrible everything is, the more depressing it gets.

I gave up most of the political podcasts that I used to listen to after the 2016 elections. I couldn't take the aggravation.

I'm certainly not giving it up as a podcast. (I want them to come to ABQ) I was just bummed that the live show was such a bust.

I streamed The End of The World podcast presented by Joe Rogan with appearances by nearly every major comedian on election night in 2016 and that was entertaining the whole time.

Now I'm not saying that I expected some Lib-bros to be on the level of comedians, but the long periods of dead air was trash.

I had stayed away from Pod Save for this very reason, so I wasn't even aware of Lovett or Leave It. I just started listening to the latter this week. Went back to the first episode and started in.

Holy Fuck. We've truly been living a nightmare for 2 years. It's absolutely fucking insane. Every week when he runs down the news, and granted, he's not covering everything, it's a fucking nightmare.

I'll keep at it for a bit, just to remind myself how bad this president is, and how much shit the GOP is willing to foist on the country. Jesus.

All of Malcolm Gladwell’s sports takes are Skip Bayless-level bad, only he seems to actually believe them. Nigeria already has a national team filled with African-Americans of Nigerian descent who played DI hoops or even in the NBA and they get destroyed in the Olympics and World Championships.

It sounded to me like he was just fucking around. And in particular, he was trying to make Bill uncomfortable and create something interesting to talk about. Yes, it was ridiculous, but he clearly knew it (particularly when he picked Nash).

Something about his humor just gets me in the right way. Conan is brilliant. The podcast is very good for only being a few eps in.
