I recently subscribed and shortly after became annoyed with myself for not jumping onboard sooner (just wait for a special to sign up, they keep showing up). The first Athletic article that really showed me the difference was an exceptionally in-depth column on the Wings' prospect camp/tournament. I know I will end up following the Red Wings on a higher level because their degree of coverage is so much better.
I think a significant factor in the quality difference is the lack of word limits from newspapers makes analysis much, much better.

Not ESPN, but I don't suppose anyone has a Daily Beast membership and could share this article?
