Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - BFJ (329th) + SKIP J-LO (324/325th)

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-3 L-Jam
I mostly listen to post-rock/metal and heavier prog stuff, which all kind draw a straight line back to pre-Dark Side Pink Floyd. The Wall, WYWH, and DSOTM, while all brilliant albums (and probably 'better' than Meddle by many metrics), were kind of dead-ends. No new branches of the musical family tree grew out of them.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-3 L-Jam
I wasn't criticizing. Just surprised. But, that explanation certainly makes sense.

Oh no worries. That was the explanation that I didn't have time to type up at initial posting.

Is that the Linklater baseball movie?

That movie is about college guys in 1980. I was a college guy in 1980. And one of my college roommates had that same exact bong.

By the way, for anyone who missed this brilliant reference, the song D'yer Mak'er' is based on this joke...
- "My wife is going on vacation."
- "Jamaica?"
- "No, she went on her own accord."
And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. - God

Five stars for the album, five more for knowing!

Both fine choices. I was listening to Animals today.
BFJ is the town wizard who runs a magic shop. He also has a golem that he has trained to attack anti-Semites.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-3 L-Jam
I’ll third Animals being awesome. I don’t like Meddle quite as much but “One of These Days” is a really great song.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-3 L-Jam
Could have gone More if you really wanted to be a bastard.
Animals and Meddle are top tier for me.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-3 L-Jam
Familiar with Earthless? Heard them for the first time today. Pretty great.

When I was a stoned teenager, I had everything Floyd put out - and even enjoyed Ummagumma. But now my collection is reduced to a couple of songs from Animals and Meddle.

I'm doing this more strategically, because I'm not sure this artist is making it back to me. So while I'm leaving a number of phenomenal albums on the board, I have to go with Mr. Francis Albert, and his best (or second best, considering In the Wee Small Hours) of the Capitol years:
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

I've got two in mind. Pretty sure neither would make it back to me in the second round. Pick should be in before noon.

Do you promise not to open a PM until after you pick if I send it to you now and we check later to see if we have the same two?govmentchedda wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 9:23 am I've got two in mind. Pretty sure neither would make it back to me in the second round. Pick should be in before noon.

Choosing between their albums is a bit like picking your favorite child, but give me Alligator by the National.

I'm modifying the one album rule.
(I was going in a different direction figuring you were my only real threat and I could get them at the bottom of the next round. Fuck off.)

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
I thought there was more of a chance that my other potentials would make it back to me, even though they're more widely popular.

This is like Joey Votto going 4th overall, right?

Revisiting, I think the comp is Joe Thornton? Its not defensible overall by any means, but maybe more defensible than other contemporaries would "should" go sooner? And he has a beard.

Would you have taken them at 4, knowing that I was lurking at 6 and 33?

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
The twice in between is what did it for me. Also, curious what album you would have chosen. I gave serious consideration to High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me, and was surprised that I didn't rate Boxer higher for this exercise.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
Boxer, no doubt. Its my personal #1 album of all time. If I'm listing out their albums (starting with Alligator), the gap between 1 and 2 is probably greater than any other, unless I'm particularly down on Trouble Will Find Me that day.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
I've always said Boxer was my favorite as well, but in looking at the track listing, I felt like Alligator offered a wider range of song styles.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
I love how the first album was Led Zeppelin's like 5th or 6th best album (4th if you really love it and are down on III). And then Meddle, by Pink Floyd.
It's like you're trying to be mainstream hipsters.
(BTW, I think Animals is probably my most-listened to Floyd album. I guess that makes it my favorite. I played the hell out of that one while studying in high school.)

Totally Kafkaesque
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
Its ups are the best of any album, but there are a handful of downs that qualify as mediocre enough to feel pre-Alligator that it offsets the ones I really like.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
So you would have passed on your personal #1 album, knowing there was no chance the band would get back to you, because it wasn't "valuable" enough at #4?
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick 1-5 BFJ
As a strategic move, sure. Same way I'd pass on Jeter for Brett thinking Jeter might last until later on or something like that. This isn't real, Rass. I can still listen to it whenever I want.
