Neil's best album, and I will not tolerate any dissent on this one.

As a soft folky, he is barely tolerable. But when he was at his noisy peak, he was absolutely incredible.

I'll take opinions on this one. I'd lean yes because its not just a secondary NY vehicle, but if someone feels really strongly about ruling out supergroups I'd get that too.

Well if we're outlawing supergroups than the first overall pick would be null.

Ehhh ... LZ is an entity unto itself. I'm talking about the side piece Derek & the Dominos or Traveling Wilbury's stuff where no one can make an argument that band is _______'s defining musical contribution. CSNY is a blind spot for me, hence soliciting opinions.

I wouldn't outlaw super groups, but I guess we just need to know if individuals can be recycled. This is as close as you got to a rule:
mister d wrote: Fri Feb 02, 2018 2:43 pm I need time to think about Travelling Wilburys. That's a good one. I'm thinking its allowed as an independent alternative as no one makes up greater than 50% of them plus another band or solo project.
If that meant that both Dylan and the Wilburys are viable options, then I guess CSN&Y should still be OK. But not CSN and CSN&Y?

I'm ready to rule on the Wilbury's.

OUT!!!!!!!

Feels too much like gaming the system when three members have already been picked in their "most famous" forms.

Sure. If you're the type of asshole who wants to ruin the entire game by taking a supergroup to invalidate four other bigger artists/groups, go for it.

I think we just needed to establish firmly that it goes both ways.

As for CSN&Y, I'm with PDX but we're not the kingmakers here.

My issue is Crosby; I have no idea what people would consider him best known for. Like I know him best from CSN because his name is in it, but if you tell me The Byrds should be #1 for him, I'd think we should rule out CSN. I just don't fucking know, man. Lots of stress.

Because Young was already picked?

Otherwise I don't think ruling out CSN because The Byrds exist is fair. To me the debate should be whether both The Byrds and CSN would be allowed, not one or the other.

Right, this is what I'm asking. I know Vedder et all are Pearl Jam and Cornell is Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog was a side. I don't know how The Byrds and CSN are related. If its just two independent phases of Crosby's career versus CSN being something he did on the side while he also consistently did other things, both should be included.

This was the album of choice my senior year in high school. Full Moon Fever was great, but Wildflowers just holds a special place in my heart. I know Mary Jane's Last Dance wasn't on this album, but it was great when they played it on the It's Good to Be King Tour. Sure the Market Square in the song isn't Market Square Arena, but that is where we were and the place exploded. She was an Indiana girl.
