I agree with the former, though not the latter.
Agreed. The Chronic is fantastic. Mr. D's opinions on Dre and The Chronic are null and void.

If you had to remove either Dre or Snoop from the album, who would you remove?

I don't love The Crane Wife, but it's a fine album. I had The King is Dead and The Hazards of Love on my short list. Nice pick.
The King Is Dead was a really close second for me.
Have you heard any of the new album? Song I heard had this 80s vibe to it, was not to my liking. I LOVE the Crane Wife and Her Majesty.

For DMB I'd have gone Remember Two Things.

I believe that Pruitt is currently in LA doing the Jeopardy thing and he forwarded me a list of selections if he came up while he was in the middle of a 60+ game win streak.

I can make that selection now if it pleases the court.

I've had this talk with myself. I've always given my parents credit for letting me listen because I think it was formative, atleast in secondary ways, but I also know there's no way I'd let my kids listen present day.

How could you remove Dre from The Chronic? I assume you mean only his rapping. I don't think most folks think of him as a rapper.

He gets singular billing for an album that became an all-timer because of Snoop's debut. It would be like "The Infamous ..." being attributed only to Havoc, except Havoc probably carried more weight.

How are soundtracks counted? Would all music need to be original and by the same artist to be available for this draft? I was considering much later down the list for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack (because "How Deep Is Your Love" is truly one of my favorite songs, and it always reminds me of dancing with my newborn daughter), although not all songs on that album are performed/written by the Bee Gees, so I'm assuming it's unavailable.

My friend and I blasted this from a little CD player he had in his golf bag the one summer when I really got into golf. That qualified as rebellion for Ryan Guevara over here. I was all over Metallica for this spot, but this is a fine replacement. Either drop the hits like de la O or get the fuck out of my metapho (rical ca-bin).

And to give Canada something to cheer about today, please welcome the blurred-out vaginal stylings of...

My high school had just added a free "study" period to everyone's schedule the fall after this came out. Among the places you could go was this little mini-cafeteria and on the top shelf of a big bookcase in the corner was a mid-sized boom box that people could play their own music in. No matter whose turn it was to pick the music, Jagged Little Pill usually made it up to that shelf. It pwned the room and pwned it hard. And nobody ever got shot.

Alanis at pick #91? Now that's ironic. (It's not).

If we are disallowing greatest hits compilations, I don't see why we'd allow soundtrack albums, which are also compilations.

Rage is a band that I enjoyed in the moment, but I always felt a little bad about it (at least until they seemed like they were having a little fun with the Renegades cover album). Like even if they were bullshitting themselves about what they were, they wouldn’t have appreciated my white, middle-class ass belting out “fuck you I won’t do what you tell me” as I drove across suburban NJ is my richer friends’ cars.

While I think that’s a bit hyperbolic, or at least worthy of some qualification, that’s my point exactly. I never felt they were comfortable with the kicker of that song as a party anthem, so at some point I wasn’t either. Which meant not listening to them as much.

Yeah, I've certainly felt that cognitive dissonance as an upper middle-class, non-politically-active white dude cranking their music. But, man they rock. I think it's literally impossible to listen to that song and not be shouting along with them by the end.

From the perspective of the guy who slammed cheap beers, smoked weed and partied to it without any reflection? Sure. But I’d be amazed if De La Rocha or Morello had reservations as to that song’s impact. Maybe how it was adopted by #fratbro...But that song fucking crushes it. MOTHERFUCKERS! ARGH!
