Yeah, that was a bummer. Way too many runs given up by the Jays.

(Lynchburg fans were a hoot behind home plate. Good for them. (not being sarcastic).

Pretty epic bed-shitting today by Stanford, stealing a defeat from the jaws of victory, versus Texas.

9th inning, leading 5-2, closer enters game to start the inning. Proceeds to two walks and one hbp on the first three batters to load the bases. New pitcher. Next batter hits fly to right-centerfield. Either outfielder could catch it, but confusion on who - so neither catches it and ball ends up rolling to the fence. Etc. Texas wins. Or rather, Stanford loses.

Turnabout is fair play, I guess. Stanford advances as winning run scores in bottom of 9th, because Texas outfielder doesn’t catch routine fly ball.

To be fair, none of the outfielders or the 2nd baseman looked like they knew where it was, only the shortstop, who was obviously too far away to make a play.

But, I don’t know why they couldn’t find it. It was after twilight, in early evening. Lights were on, no glare. No issues for either team before that.

I've played about dozen baseball games under the lights and probably... conservatively about 100 soccer games at night.

Especially with baseball, if the ball gets up above the main focus of the lights, you can absolutely lose the ball for a second or two. For it to happen with multiple outfielders is what's odd about that play. Usually it has something to do with the height and the angle. Not about glare, but about the ball literally going out of sight. But for what looked like the entire outfield and the 2b to lose it is weird. You can see the SS tracked it the whole time.

I was looking for a quote from one of the players and (not surprisingly) can't find it.*

But I did see from D1Baseball.com that Texas A&M lost two balls in the twilight at that stadium/field earlier in the month. Apparently, it's a known thing that twilight games cause issues for the uninitiated.

Assuming these are smaller stadiums, I assume that's right. The ball goes up, through the lights, then just into the night, then back through the lights and into your focus. There are a lot of places to lose it when its not simply a white ball on black or blue sky.

Just watched the video. CF never saw it, RF saw it then lost it and the batter seems to say "OH SHIT!" when he realizes neither OF can find it and won't have time to recover.

It was an exciting moment, but espn’s Karl Ravech really messed up the call.

Happened to have this on in the background and saw the ball go out. As Ravech was saying “walk-off” I was confused as to why the pitcher was asking for another ball.

You can go ahead and toss the high schools in there too. Terrible. My brother was a pretty good baseball and football player. Then they went to Florida for spring practice. Might as well have been different sports

What's interesting here is because the pitch was elevated somewhat, his swing didn't really jump out as a massive uppercut. Mike Ford's first HR at OPCY yesterday, while less of an uppercut (46°), looked like he was swinging a pitching wedge because the pitch scraped the lower edge of the K zone.

Caglianone just hit one with a 56 degree launch angle. After a tough extra innings loss yesterday dem Gators came to play today. 20-3 in the top of the ninth. Tomorrow night should be great.

Will the CWS match the Rockies/Angels series from this weekend? The former won the series with a -20-plus run differential.

I put another $100 on over 16.5 in-game. My guess is these pitchers are gassed.

Former Alabama baseball head coach violated wagering, ethical conduct rules
On April 28, 2023, prior to Alabama's baseball game against Louisiana State University (LSU), Bohannon sent several electronic messages via the Signal encrypted messaging application to a bettor that Bohannon knew was involved in sports wagering activities. The electronic messages indicated that an Alabama baseball student-athlete (student-athlete 1), the scheduled starting pitcher for that evening's contest against LSU, would not start the contest due to an injury. Bohannon provided this information to the bettor before reporting the starting lineup (with student- athlete 1 replaced as the starting pitcher) to the LSU coaching staff. Specifically, Bohannon texted the bettor: "HAMMER … [Student-athlete 1] is out for sure … Lemme know when I can tell LSU… Hurry."

Shortly after receiving the electronic messages from Bohannon, the bettor attempted to place a $100,000 wager on the LSU baseball team at the BetMGM sportsbook at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati but the sportsbook staff limited the bettor to a $15,000 wager. The bettor then attempted to place additional wagers involving the April 28 Alabama vs. LSU baseball game, but the sportsbook staff declined the wagers due to suspicious activity. This suspicious activity included the bettor's insistent demeanor to get the bet placed and statements to sportsbook staff that the bet was "for sure going to win" and "if only you guys knew what I knew." The suspicious activity also included the bettor showing sportsbook staff messages from Bohannon and explaining that the messages were Bohannon informing bettor that Alabama was scratching its starting pitcher before the game and before Bohannon alerted LSU.
