That was my fault for letting you pitch into the 7th when you clearly weren't getting the job done.

You should be OK for your next start, though.
It's okay. I have a long history of being a second half pitcher, anyway.

WEEK 2 UPDATE

The Burlington Sports Frogs rebounded nicely from a rough first week, sweeping three games at Danbury and then taking two of three from Middlesex to finish the week at 5-1. The Frogs' bats continue to light up the league, leading in runs scored, batting average, and OBP. Their pitching rebounded somewhat after an abysmal first week, but continues to uncharacteristically rank near the bottom of the league with a 5.93 ERA.
  • This Week: 5-1
    Season: 7-5 (3rd in Div.)
    League Power Ranking: 4th
Next Week: vs. Utica (3 games), vs. Fresno (3 games)

The Holland Oats split their six games this week, taking two of three from Duluth before dropping two of three to Parma, with a couple of the losses comning by just one run. Their offense continues to be out of touch, ranking last in the conference in runs, BA, OBP, and home runs. Hopefully the next week will see their bats finally come to life. Their pitching has been keeping them in games with a respectable 3.51 ERA, but some injury news may threaten that (see below).
  • This Week: 3-3
    Season: 5-6 (2nd in Div.)
    League Power Ranking: 20th
Next Week: vs. Rockford (3 games), at Corpus Christi (3 games)

NEWS AND NOTES

- Injury Report: steve left his last start with shoulder inflammation and will be out for approximately 7 weeks. Moreta will move into the rotation for now, with Tom 1860 waiting in the wings if she isn't up to the task.

- With steve on the DL and the resulting shakeup to the pitching staff, the Oats have called up HDO45331 to account (get it?) for some of the extra innings in the bullpen.

- Gunpowder has started the season on a tear, leading the Bensell Conference in home runs, slugging, and OPS.

- mister d looks to be repeating last year's early-season form with just a .103 BA so far. Other underperformers include rass (.162) and Jerloma (.188).

- degenerasian is still looking for his first win despite recording a 1.06 ERA in his first three starts.

- My favorite generated headline of the season so far: Oats Topple ErVandrosses as Rams Fanny Shines

- One of the changes I'm seeing after tweaking some of the global game settings for this year is a substantial uptick in stolen bases. Last year EnochRoot led our team with just 13 for the season. This year both Enoch and BSF21 have 7 each after the first two weeks.

- Speaking of BSF, he spontaneously grew a goatee in an apparent attempt to look "edgy" for the new season. Let's see if that helps him get his OBP over .255 anytime soon.
Image

- Here are our team owners' updated goals for the coming seasons:
  • Burlington:
    2018: Reach the playoffs.
2019: Upgrade at CF (shots fired, EnochRoot!)
2023: Win a championship (apparently we get the Bill Simmons 5-year grace period).
  • Holland:
2018: Play close to .500 ball.
2018: Improve team OBP (currently dead last in conference).
2018: Sign howard to an extension.
2019: Upgrade at CF (shots fired, BSF21!)
2019: Increase attendance to 33k/game (currently making good progress at 26k, a 30% increase over Athens last year).
    2023: Reach the playoffs.

I'd like to thank the defence behind me for cleaning up the guys on base. Maybe I'll get you some isotoners after the season if this keeps up.

Plus who do we need to talk to to get the fences pushed back just a tad?

I did a few test-run simulations before starting the "official" season, and based on those results I think you guys have a good chance of doing better than that.

You'll probably be saying "Fuck Parma" quite a bit, though.

I just signed up for a local league and, even worse than 330, it appears we have no fences. And I know no one else in the league, so I should make a great impression the first time I turn a triple into a "c'mon, you want me to sprint and slide?" double.

Do some scouting at practice and figure out who the slowest runner(s) aside from yourself are. Volunteer to hit behind (one of) them.

I say this as someone who hit a single that turned into a "home run" when the ball hit some sort of hole/rock/whatever and took off over the incoming left fielder's head and rolled and rolled, then was greeted in the dugout by my roommate, "Damn, (DSG), you're slow".

Different sport, but that happened to me during an intramural flag football game. I had a pick six and turned around thinking my team was going to be mobbing me, but they were laughing because they couldn't figure out how I didn't get caught.

WEEK 3 UPDATE

So, got feedback that some of you preferred last year's setup where there was more information embedded up front in the posts. I've added some Google docs for stats, standings, etc. in the expandable spoiler tags below which should hopefully replicate some of that.

The Burlington Sports Frogs continued their surge, finding themselves atop their division after sweeping their series with Utica and then taking two of three from Fresno. The Frogs continue to dominate at the plate, leading the conference in most major offensive categories, though their pitching continues to be up-and-down with a 5.18 ERA.
  • This Week: 5-1
    Season: 12-6 (1st in Div.)
    League Power Ranking: 3rd
Next Week: vs. Woonsocket (3 games), at Regina (3 games)

BUR 4, FRE 2 - Sports Frogs Score Late, Top Business Horses, 4-2
BUR 4, FRE 3 - Sports Frogs Score Late, Upend Business Horses, 4-3
[+] BURLINGTON STATS
The Holland Oats remain in the middle of the pack after a full week of games, dropping two of three vs. Rockford before splitting a four-game series at Corpus Christi, with the last two losses coming by one run each. The good news is that they are just 1.5 games back in a crowded division. The Oats have been a reverse image of the Sports Frogs, leading the conference with a 3.36 ERA, but struggling with a .248 average and low offensive numbers all around.

NEWS AND NOTES

- Moreta proved to be a maneater in her first start, giving up just one run in seven innings on route to her first career win.

- Johnnie's attempt to establish himself as a full-time closer has gotten off to a rocky start, as he blew two saves in the past week and has a 9.00 ERA for the season.

- degenerasian finally logged his first win of the season after pitching a masterful four-hit shutout to lower his ERA to 0.69 (heh).

- wlu_lax with this sick burn in the post-game comments:
"Let's just say I'm happy we won," said wlu_lax. "There are a lot of people in the clubhouse who like to whine too much when we lose."

- Another neat feature of this game is the ability to create your own news stories:

I turned an easy home run into a double this week by walking to first and admiring it, and then running last minute when it hit the fence and stayed in the yard.

But they really couldn't say much since it WAS OUR ONLY HIT IN A DAMN SOFTBALL GAME. I need a new team.

NEWS AND NOTES:

- Injury: Pruitt suffered a high ankle sprain while attempting to break up a double play vs. Woonsocket and will be out for 3-4 weeks. GoodKarma will take over at 3B in his absence. kranepool has been called up from the minors to take the roster spot.

- Injury: TT2.0 suffered a mild triceps strain in his last start and will be out 1-2 weeks. HaulCitgo will tentatively take over his spot in the rotation in the meantime. New team member vandwagon has been called up from the minors to shore up the bullpen.

- mister d's cycle was the first in the league this season and the fourth in its short history.

- Gunpowder remains at the top of the league leaderboard with 11 home runs, tied with Jonathan 'Elastic Man' Herrera of the Shreveport Ratchets, who has a bitchin' Rollie Fingers mustache:
Image

- Rams Fanny won the Shrew Conference Rookie of the Month award after hitting .330 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored in April. Good work!

- After last week's forced shaving incident, BSF21's batting average jumped by 5 points this week, to .240. Good work!

- The stolen base renaissance continues as EnochRoot has equaled last year's total with 13 steals against just 4 times caught, while BSF21 is currently an impressive 11-for-11.
