Now that there's a big enough to sample size to suggest you might actually be kind of good, I've started to platoon you with mister d. It's kind of an oddball platoon though in that mister d actually hits lefties better.

WEEK 21 UPDATE

Image Burlington Sports Frogs

- Season: 80-49 (2nd in Div, 0.5 GB)
- League Power Ranking: 3rd
- Next Week: at Danbury (3 games), at Middlesex (3 games)

Image Holland Oats
The Oats also continued their strong run with a 5-2 week, though Parma rode a six-game win streak to cut their lead to 3.5 games. Next week they similarly face a pair of division foes on the road, first with four games at Rockford and then three at Duluth.

- This Week: 5-2
- Season: 75-54 (1st in Div)
- League Power Ranking: 5th
- Next Week: at Rockford (4 games), at Duluth (3 games)

NEWS AND NOTES:

- Once again, it's that time when we need to start thinking about upcoming free agents. Below are the players on each team whose current contracts expire after the end of this season, along with their contract demands at this point. Looks like wlu_lax plans to take no prisoners in negotiations after his MVP-caliber production...ay carumba. I need to work out how we'll make these decisions with two teams now. Stay posted:

Image

- With the onset of September, it will be time for roster expansions for the last month of the season. We may see some "cameos" from other Swampers past and present in the coming weeks...

WEEK 22 UPDATE

Image Burlington Sports Frogs

WEEK 23 UPDATE

First up: Once again, the Sports Frogs and the Oats will face off head-to-head in a 4-game series next week in Holland. The first series ended in a 2-2 split, so the rematch will give the two teams a chance to claim bragging rights, as well as fuck up one another's divisional races. Here are the scheduled starters:

9/11 - TT2.0 vs. Rush2112
9/12 - govmentchedda vs. howard
9/13 - Sabo vs. Moreta
9/14 - brian vs. blundercrush

(I might try to swap in degenerasian for that final game, if he's rested enough.)

Once again: If you are one of the scheduled starting pitchers, let me know if there's someone on the opposing team you'd like to hit when he (or she?) comes to the plate. I'll try to accommodate what I can, but don't want things to get so out of hand with ejections/suspensions that we can't field proper teams.

==============================================================================================================================

On to the update:

Image Burlington Sports Frogs
A 4-3 week wasn't enough to get the Sports Frogs back into the Northeast division lead, as they remain a game and a half behind Middlesex. Next week brings their showdown four-game series at Holland, followed by another three-game set at Woonsocket.

- This Week: 4-3
- Season: 87-55 (2nd in Div, 1.5 GB)
- League Power Ranking: 3rd
- Next Week: at Holland (4 games), at Woonsocket (3 games)

Image Holland Oats
A 4-2 week coupled with a mini-slump by Parma saw the Oats vault back into the Midwest division lead. Coming up next week, they'll host a four-game set vs. Burlington, followed by a three-game series at the cellar-dwelling Meat Gayzers.

- This Week: 4-2
- Season: 82-60 (1st in Div)
- League Power Ranking: 5th
- Next Week: vs. Burlington (4 games), at Kalamazoo (3 games)

NEWS AND NOTES:

- Gunpowder has been in a home run drought since August 29, and recently lost the league lead to Alvaro Terrazas of Rockford. Get your shit together, GPJ!

- I may have mentioned it earlier, but the game has basic animated graphics for watching the games play out, and auto-generates highlight reels after each game. It's not MLB the Show or anything, but it at least gives you a visual to follow. Here's a highlight reel from one of this past week's games as an example. I might see about doing these for the upcoming Frogs-Oats series as well as the playoffs (assuming we make it):

WEEK 24 UPDATE

The hotly anticipated Burlington-Holland series ended with the Oats engineering a dramatic come-from-behind win in the final game to take the overall season series, 5 games to 3. Highlights are below:
[+] GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Image Burlington Sports Frogs
The Sports Frogs followed their stinging end to the Holland series by dropping two of three to Woonsocket, falling 3 1/2 games behind Middlesex for the division lead. Next week will bring two road series at division rivals Danbury and Utica as they attempt to make a final push.

- This Week: 2-5
- Season: 89-60 (2nd in Div, 3.5 GB)
- League Power Ranking: 6th
- Next Week: at Danbury (3 games), at Utica (4 games)

Image Holland Oats
After taking three or four from Burlington, the Oats continued to roll with a sweep Kalamazoo and have now won eight of their last nine. Next week they'll take the road for a couple of series against their challengers Parma and Rockford as they attempt to close out the division title.

- This Week: 6-1
- Season: 88-61 (1st in Div)
- League Power Ranking: 2nd
- Next Week: at Parma (3 games), at Rockford (4 games)

NEWS AND NOTES:

- Injury: bapo! came down with an oblique strain and will be out for a week or so.

- Injury: EnochRoot is day-to-day with "wrist soreness" that he supposedly incurred while making a throw. Yeah right, we know what you were doing.

- Jerloma won the most recent Shrew Conference Player of the Week after hitting .423 with 2 homers and 8 RBI. I'll make sure to reward him with all the awful bread-chip-filled snack mix he can eat.

- degenerasian now leads the Shrew Conference in ERA at 2.41, but has been limited to 11 wins in 28 starts by injuries and bad luck.

- I'm going to call it a "Johnnie" when a reliever blows a starter's lead, then picks up a cheap win after his team comes back the same inning, since it feels like Johnnie has done that ten times in his career so far.

LEAGUE STANDINGS

A quick rundown of where things stand going into the last two weeks of the regular season:

- Burlington is 3.5 games back of Middlesex for the division lead. That will be a tough climb for the Frogs with just 13 games left, but barring a complete collapse they should still at least secure a wild-card spot. All of their remaining games are with the bottom three teams in the division: Danbury, Utica, and Woonsocket.

- Holland control their destiny with a 4-game lead over Parma for their division title. If the Oats slump badly enough to lose the division lead, they'll likely find themselves in a battle with Parma or Rockford for the final wild-card spot. 10 of Holland's remaining 13 games are with those two teams, so their playoff picture will likely be determined on the field.

WEEK 25 UPDATE

Image Burlington Sports Frogs
The Sports Frogs have clinched at least a wild-card berth for the season, taking advantage of a slump by Middlesex to shave a couple games off their deficit and now trail by just a game and a half going into the last week of the season. The final week brings a slate of games against the bottom three teams in the division: one more at Utica and then two three-game sets at home against Woonsocket and Danbury. (Middlesex, by contrast, closes with a home series against Utica and then a road series at a stron Ajax team, so the Frogs should have the easier going.)

- This Week: 4-2
- Season: 93-62 (2nd in Div, 1.5 GB)
- League Power Ranking: 5th
- Next Week: at Utica (1 games), vs. Woonsocket (3 games), vs. Danbury (3 games)

Image Holland Oats
The Oats maintain the division lead going into the final week, but after a 2-4 stretch, that lead has been narrowed to just a game and a half over Parma, with Rockford three more games back. The playoff picture will come down to two of those three teams getting in, with the third staying home. Holland holds the advantage in playing all of their remaining games at home: first a four-game set with Parma that may decide things by mid-week, followed by three games against league-worst Manassas.

- This Week: 2-4
- Season: 90-65 (1st in Div)
- League Power Ranking: 8th
- Next Week: vs. Parma (4 games), vs. Manassas (3 games)

NEWS AND NOTES:

- EnochRoot's "wrist soreness" diagnosis has been extended to keep him day-to-day for an indefinite period of time. Dammit Enoch, quit beating off!

- Then again, playing through the injury, EnochRoot had maybe his best week of the year, going 14-for-31 with 2 HRs. So...keep beating off, I guess?

- Gunpowder roared back from his power slump with an amazing three two-HR games in four days. He now stands at 50 for the season, one back of the league lead.

- degenerasian is effectively tied for the Shrew Conference ERA title heading into the final week, during which he is scheduled to make two starts.

- Pruitt came down with a mild abdominal strain and then a quadriceps strain while running the bases, leaving him day-to-day with a likely minimal effect.

- DSafetyGuy was pulled from his last start in the 1st inning with a mild oblique strain, but appears to have recovered, and should be back on schedule giving up 5 runs a game.
