Based on the tone of that article alone, I would rename the horse "Gulf of Mexico" just to fuck with them.

I went to the track here in Lexington just last week, which leaves me perfectly positioned to give you all my inside information and betting tips.

Which is to say I lost $50 really quickly and never cashed a single ticket because horse racing is basically pull-tab lottery tickets for people who like to see college students in sundresses.

But on a related note: MYSTERY STUD.

I'm back. Sorry I have been swamped (ha!) with moving and other things the past month and have had problems getting here on my phone. But now I am settled in and have the computer up and running so I should be around from here on out.

The post position draw for the Derby is in 2 hours so I will post my first thoughts after that.

TVG, Twinspires.com or you can go to Suffolk Downs and bet the simulcast there.

Pretty intimidating name for a horse, eh. This is why you should never let your 4-year old name your thoroughbreds.

The sire is named Kitten's Joy and Ken and Sarah Ramsey name all of their homebreds by him with some form of a Kitten name. But yeah, that has to be one of their worst choices.

Funny how in many years it seems like about 40 horses are in the Derby, and then, five weeks later, you have 4 horses in the Belmont.

The rest of the field gets stuck in traffic trying to get to fucking Long Island.

Hey, learn more roads than the fucking Long Island Expressway.

FWIW, Fear the Kitten is an awesome name. Could only be improved if it were Fear teh Kitty. I would totally drop a bet based on that name alone.

If you're going to be so defensive over a joke, then I'm going to call you on it and ask you to provide the name of the magical road that let's you set the cruise control and coast right onto the Island*.

And you say the Belt I'm going to take mine off and beat you with it.

*Which I was actually able to, once. Once. At about 4AM on a Tuesday, heading to JFK.

The magical, mystical Northern State, via the Grand Central. All the cool kids headed for the hamptons use it. Worth traversing the Cross Island.

For the Belmont stakes, do the following if traveling by automobile:

1) Drive to Jamaica, NY; 168th Street.
2) Park car
3) Get on LIRR train to Belmont.

Alternatively, take LIRR from Penn Station.

I drive everywhere in NYC, including Yankee games, and I don't drive to Belmont Day.

I'm just here to make fun of LI. I don't want to the Belmont. Or LI for that matter.

Scratch #1 Black Onyx and the #21 Fear the Kitten, giving us a 19 horse field. My picks are coming up later, but right now I'm leaning towards the top two Florida Derby finishers - Orb and Itsmyluckyday.

36-1 shot wins the Oaks from off the pace. The track is playing fair today so hopefully it carries over to tomorrow.

I think it is Orb's race to lose, but here is how I plan on betting:

Trifecta #16 Orb
wheeled with #3 Revolutionary, #5 Normandy Invasion, #10 Palace Malice, #11 Lines of Battle, #12 Itsmyluckyday & #17 Will Take Charge ($15 bet on a 50 cent wager)

Trifecta box (3-5-10-12-16) ($30 on a 50 cent wager)

Hoping to hit it twice with some longshots.

Will probably do a bunch of Pick 3s and rolling Doubles, but I will try and keep my picks posted as I go.

Sorry for the lack of a true preview but here is my power rankings:

16 Orb
12 Itsmyluckyday
5 Normandy Invasion
11 Lines of Battle
17 Will Take Charge
3 Revolutionary
10 Palace Malice
19 Java's War
14 Verranzano
9 Overanalyze
6 Mylute
7 Giant Finish
20 Vyjack
8 Goldencents
2 Oxbow
13 Fallling Sky
15 Charming Kitten
4 Golden Soul
18 Frac Daddy

Evidently none of you have had a kitten's needle ass claws in your skin. Fear those mother fuckers before they learn the fantastic lap sitting, warm spot napping ways of the wise.

Going through the process of being laid off for the last few months, one horse jumps at me. Overanalyze.

Anyone who has ever been searching for a job, while unemployed, or if you ever dated you know what I am talking about. A complete mindfuck.

Lets go #9!!

I made OK money considering how little I was betting. 3 Pick 3s and 1 Pick 4 even with favorites payed nice. So happy to see Shug get a Derby -pick it got dusty for a minute as my uncle has known him for many, many years.

Here is the field for the Preakness Stakes, with odds as of 6:00 PM Friday:

1. Orb 3-5
2. Goldencents 7-1
3. Titletown Five 24-1
4. Departing 12-1
5. Mylute 7-1
6. Oxbow 16-1
7. Will Take Charge 12-1
8. Governor Charlie 12-1
9. Itsmyluckyday 9-1

I don't see anyone beating Orb from this field. But crazier things have happened so this is the order I think the horses have the chance to win:

Orb
Departing
Will Take Charge
Mylute
Itsmyluckyday
Oxbow
Governor Charlie
Goldencents
Titletown Five

I like Orb and Mylute for the exacta. Maybe Itsmyluckyday for a show. The jockey on Mylute is a local girl who got her first win at Pimlico.

Fascinating race. I was surprised to learn that I had seen Stevens riding before; he rode Point Given to win at Saratoga in one of the few times I went to that track. Point Given is still the best horse I've ever seen in person.

Interestingly, Point Given didn't show at Churchill either (5th, Oxbow was 6th this year) and went on to win the Preakness and Belmont. Maybe this bodes well for Oxbow in the third leg.

I bet against Orb, because I bet to win money, not to be right. Figured I'd bet on Gary Stevens and one of the secondary favorites. The result? Exacta, son! Three bills!
