I only just now figured this out even after talking to Bronto about it yesterday
It's the sixth version of The Swamp. What could possibly go wrong?

Come now. This was fairly clearly a matter of an off-color comment. That is a bloody world apart from the Mavs situation, which was effectively somewhere between sexual harassment and sexual assault. A careless comment certainly does not imply a progression to that, and there is no basis for suggesting so.
are you just immune to sarcasm and hyperbole or are you genuinely an idiot?ImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:19 pmCome now. This was fairly clearly a matter of an off-color comment. I originally read this as sarcastically suggesting that the firing of Ussery was an overreaction. On re-reading, I now think Gunpowder is suggesting that if everyone reacted to every questionable comment, as I sort of suggested (though *that* was of course a slight hyperbole), then Ussery would have been gone long before that. Which, fair point.TT2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:34 pmare you just immune to sarcasm and hyperbole or are you genuinely an idiot?ImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:19 pmCome now. No. I do not. I am a dummy. :)brian wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 12:32 pm Called an African-American clubhouse attendant a "monkey".
Still want to defend this as political correctness gone amuck?

Right, I figured that later. In my defense, I originally wrote that after being up 20 straight hours... :)Gunpowder wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 1:03 pmImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:19 pmCome now. Eventually it was, but at first it probably sounded like this. That's my point.
i was a prick when i joined in 03...i cant just turn it off nowImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:55 pmI originally read this as sarcastically suggesting that the firing of Ussery was an overreaction. And no, I'm not an idiot. But thanks for totally not being a prick about it or anything. ;-)
Nor should you. The world needs a few good pricks. :)TT2.0 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 2:03 pmi was a prick when i joined in 03...i cant just turn it off nowImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:55 pmI originally read this as sarcastically suggesting that the firing of Ussery was an overreaction. The "referred to a player by the nickname "Spider Monkey" because he makes faces while working out, but the player said he had never heard of that as his nickname part" seemed like such a genius cover move.brian wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 12:32 pm Called an African-American clubhouse attendant a "monkey".

I am so sorry to hear that, Moreta. Glad the Tigers immediately dealt with Bosio.
Otani who!?!?tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 7:11 am So...Michael Lorenzen is doing cool weird things for the Reds.
A 214 ERA+ and no HR allowed through 23 1/3 IP. Impressive. Though his FIP is 3.48, and the 3.9 BB/9 and 4.6 K/9 are fairly alarming, so there's probably more than a bit of smoke and mirrors there...tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 7:11 am So...Michael Lorenzen is doing cool weird things for the Reds.
You’re missing the point. Huge dong hittin grand slam machine.ImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 8:37 amA 214 ERA+ and no HR allowed through 23 1/3 IP. Impressive. Ah! Yes, I did miss that entirely. Silly me, looking at pitching stats for a pitcher. ;-)A_B wrote: ↑Sun Jul 01, 2018 9:08 amYou’re missing the point. It's an added bonus to have basically a free pinch hitter on days you know he isn't going to pitch (or even to use him as a pitcher when the spot is coming up soon, I guess.)tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 4:55 am He has three pinch hit home runs for the Reds this year. Actually, it's 3 pinch hit home runs in his last 4 plate appearances, broken up by a walk.
He was a CF in college, and raked there. He's a legit threat with the bat.
Did he pitch as well? Wonder how/why he got moved...tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 4:55 am He has three pinch hit home runs for the Reds this year. Actually, it's 3 pinch hit home runs in his last 4 plate appearances, broken up by a walk.

I will never understand why he wasn't converted to a position player at some point. He was a well below average pitcher (91 ERA+, 4.95 FIP), who showed pretty good potential as a hitter in admittedly limited PA (106 career OPS+)...
IIRC, the Reds wanted him to switch to become a full-time OF but he wanted to pitch.ImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:37 amI will never understand why he wasn't converted to a position player at some point. That makes sense. May also explain why he is no longer in baseball... :)Sabo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 10:05 amIIRC, the Reds wanted him to switch to become a full-time OF but he wanted to pitch.ImaginaryMan wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:37 amI will never understand why he wasn't converted to a position player at some point. He's still a well above-average hitter with an OBP 150 points above his BA, so it's far from time to panic, but Harper certainly isn't doing himself many favors in his walk year...tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 11:41 am Home runs in June:

I bet that 10 to 15 years ago, that .216 AVG would have. But I agree, front office types nowadays are much too smart to over-emphasize one year, or to care about AVG. :)
Good to know I wasn't the only one who drew that comparison.
