"Shane Bieber" is an MLB player name you could predict existed even if you didn't know it did.

Well, after that four-game pantsing, it appears the AL East race is over. But we might have an exciting race for the two AL wild card slots.

So preeminent Yankees play-by-play man, Michael Kay called out the highly touted Yankees prospect, Clint Frazier for not trying hard enough to get back into playing shape.

He’s recovering from a concussion he initially suffered in Spring Training, and reaggravated in AAA several weeks ago. He’s been battling post-concussion migraines since.

Frazier rightly called him out for this in a tweet, and then Kay offered a #Notanapology with one of those “I’m sorry if you took offense to what I said” statements, which are frankly worse than saying nothing at all.

Forgot to ask how you'd assess Romine's series against Boston.

All of these the Red Sox are unbeatable! takes are gonna be hilarious after they get swept by Oakland in the playoffs.

I don’t know about Oakland but I’ve been thinking that the “best Boston team ever” buzz is a bit much considering that a healthy Astros team is at least as talented as Boston and the Red Sox have gotta be <50-50 to even make the WS.

With Dombrowski at the helm it’ll be as hilariously awful as possible. So hence getting swept by Oakland

I can’t figure out how Dombrowski didn’t trade for Realmuto at the deadline.

It sucks that Felix Hernandez is going to end his career (most likely at the end of the year, the way things are going) without ever pitching in a playoff game.

This is quite the throw by Ramon Laureano.

Fun game at the Copa today. The Tigers retired Jack Morris’s number. They also managed to win despite all efforts to the contrary.

First triple play since 1912 where none of the outs was the batter.

He definitely wasn't clearly out. If anything he was probably safe as the angles I saw made it look like Maldonado tagged him down on the hip as opposed to on the arm. I'm just not sure there was quite enough in the replays to overturn the original call. There's a separate debate that could be had as to how much deference the original call should be given, but MLB's rules say that it has to be clearly wrong to overrule it.

Yeah I don’t think he was clearly out, but you can’t come anywhere close to saying he was definitely safe either. Bullshit reversal.

Cool. Now post the reverse angle, which shows that Maldonado hadn’t applied the tag yet in the screenshot you posted. The Tweet I’ve posted below has videos from both angles synched up. If the replay officials had this video I can see why they overruled it.

I totally missed this from Sunday/Monday, but how could the Dodgers win the claim on Harper and apparently get an audience and not get a deal done?

Because Yankees rumored (B/R) to be going on a spending spree if they fall short of WS. Harper would be an idiot to not hear what ridiculous numbers they offer. The Dodgers will always be there as second choice.

I meant for the next 2 months. There's a clear middle ground where worth it to the Dodgers still well exceeds UFA comp for the Nationals.

And it gives the Dodgers at least a nominal leg up. Two more months to do a full-court press without tampering concerns. That’s worth something.

Right? What if he loves LA or him and Machado bond on some superteam shit out there? This is as bad as I’ve wanted to know the asking price in a trade in a very long time. Probably since Cano maybe was available.

I was thinking Harper probably exerted as much pressure on the Nats as possible to keep him in Wash. Harper's contract offer likely stays at max levels if A) LA is pining for the unknown in a bidding war with NYY (or poss CHC) during offseason or B) he doesn't go to LA and hit.188 4HR 6RBI down stretch. Given his current stats, the turnaround necessary to achieve max $$ is improbable at best.

Nothing Harper does over the next two months, aside from injury, would lower his contract. It’s starting at biggest ever and going up from there.

depends on the post season. If Yankees lose to the Red Sox and Dodgers don't even make the playoffs. Bidding for Harper will go through the roof.
