Part of being old I guess but if the Brewers play the Astros in the World Series I'm going to mentally fuck up which league each team is representing at least once.

That was quite the popular sentiment on Twitter last night. Part of me thinks if one is going to be so fucking self-righteous about it, maybe not make your money covering the league that continues to employee these people. There are tons of writing jobs out there where you don't have to cover bad people playing a freaking game. But it's a lot easier to be snarky on social media about it rather than having actual scruples. If Keith Law or Allyson Footer really wanted to make a point, how about they stop covering the sport?

The other bigger part of me knows this is a shit take spurned on by salt in the wound last night. But whatever.

I fell asleep early, woke up a few hours later and saw it was in the 11th and stayed up to the end. But I was going to call it after the 13th if LA didn’t score there.

Can you assume a catch? Does it matter?
Does that part of the field belong to the fan or the player?

I think the fans are going to riot.

I don’t think you can assume *that* catch. And the fan didn’t reach over the wall.

I agree. Plus you’re assuming that Betts holds on with his arm/shoulder banging into the wall at high speed. That’s a bad call on the field by West that should’ve been overturned. This is why replay officials should just make what they think is the best call rather than deferring to a septagenuarian umpire with a worse view.

The fans literally made no move on the ball. His glove was closed (and not by a fan, you dumbshit announcer) before the ball ever got there.

I mentioned this in the NFL thread a few weeks ago and others disagreed but what possible justification is there for weighting a call by an official at full speed, possibly without a great view, over a call made by a replay official who can use a slo-mo shot from the best camera? It’s a classic example of people accepting a dumb rule (deferring to the call on the field) because it’s the way it’s been.

That's how it is in hockey. The refs call doesnt matter or he doesnt even make a call. It just goes to replay.

I just watched the replay. If that were the Yankees I would have made sure I didn’t defend Chapman last night so I could justifiably lose my fucking shit tonight.

It’s been proven numerous times clear evidence doesn’t fucking matter. His glove was closing before he made contact with anyone.

For real though, put McCann in and politely ask Maldonado to leave Minute Maid Park and never come back.

Not sure if the rule calls for factoring more than just did the fan prevent the ball going into the glove...and I don't really trusty umpires or the league determining how much banging into a wall affects the odds of catching a ball.
