Re: Getting the Led out
The one band that I never got to see in concert. Doubt anyone will agree with me but Presence was (is) my favorite. It was also the second LP I ever bought.* (The first was Deep Purple Machine Head). And the third, now that I think about it, was Led Zeppelin II. Oh, my, what I put my parents through.
Led Zeppelin Destroyer is a must-have bootleg. Easily found. Hello Cleveland!
* There's a thread idea. "What was the first album you ever bought?"

rock and roll > sun > mulch
I think you might be right on that. I'm hoping I get done before I get to that album.Scottie wrote:Doubt anyone will agree with me but Presence was (is) my favorite

And what's to stop us pretty baby,
but what is and what should never be...
There was a point when I thought that was the deepest thing ever. Of course, I was probably also still working on a level where I thought The Lemon Song was about lemons, so forgive me.

Re: Getting the Led out
Cool stuff. For this past Christmas, my sister-in-law gave me the Celebration Day cd/dvd of the reunion concert that was recorded in 2006 - Page, Plant, Jones and Jason Bonham (son of John) playing old Zeppelin songs.
And as far as favorite Zep albums, one I love that doesn't get much respect generally is Physical Graffiti. Trampled Under Foot, Boogie with Stu, the Rover, and of course, Kashmir.

I bought at least a yard too much mulch. Because of the variable delivery charge, it only cost $1 more to buy one more than I was pretty sure I needed.

I think I might always sort of regret not ever having a break up that caused me to just say "fuck it" and hop a bus to California.

So, what happened to Plant's voice between those last two albums. The production obviously changed a bit too (you can even hear a bit of that coming in something like Four Sticks), but the vocals are almost completely different. Maybe I should read a book or something.

I had to get creative, and mulched a couple of spots I wasn't planning on mulching, but I used it all up and it looks pretty good. I gave up on the Zep early this afternoon after Presence, and ended up listening to the Pirates game.

Just realized that Zeppelin is on Spotify. Good day for my office mate and the guy on the other side of my wall to be out.

Funny that this thread got bumped, nice beginners review to Led on avclub yesterday:

Agreed on both accounts. I pretty much don't read comments anywhere at this point, and most certainly on Avclub, where every single comment seems to be run through the hipster snark store, which is never out of hipster snark.rass wrote:That was refreshingly snark free. Re: Getting the Led out
My son's guitar teacher has him learning "Heartbreaker". Such a great opening riff. I can't tell you how cool it is to hear it (however badly) come from my ten-year-old's fingers.
Totally Kafkaesque

That avclub article was good - and thankfully not too long. I will say that their choice of Essentials doesn't match mine. Zep II is their best album. I don't see how anyone could consider Presence even close to their best work.

Re: Getting the Led out
I'm probably biased because it has my two favorite songs on it consecutively but Houses of the Holy.

Everyone that's into Zeppelin should listen to this as well.

And I'm a II/III guy. (with a soft spot for In Through The Out Door.)

Re: Getting the Led out
I really like several Zeppelin albums, and I agree Presence wasn't among the best. I have a soft spot for Physical Graffiti. Some great songs - Trampled Under Foot, The Rover, Boogie with Stu, Houses of the Holy, Kashmir...

Is it OK that D'yer Mak'er is my favorite song of theirs? Or do I need to go cower in the corner while you guys beat me with pillowcases full of bar soap?

Trivia time: There was one Zeppelin song that was/is a staple on rock-n-roll radio stations, but was never included on any of the albums they released while the band was together. Can you name it?
