Yeah, not a fan of the # of years if nothing else. And he's good friends with Crosby so of course that angle of the story is being driven into the ground.

I wish Vegas took bets on stuff like "Pittsburgh will end up buying out this contract at some point". (Though of course I guess the next CBA is a question mark.)

Jack Johnson getting a 5 year deal with the flightless birds. Not bad for a surfer/guitar player (yes I know).
Five years for a 31 year-old guy who was a healthy scratch for all Columbus' playoff games and also for most of their late regular season games?

When you have a grim cap situation to begin with and you have a chance to pay a guy who appears to have nothing in the tank $17.5M over five years you have to take it.

This Nash stuff sucks but I’m glad he’s doing it. Two vastly different players depending on how his head is on a given day.

Maybe it was not on ice reasons. Just freeze him out for not willing to sign a new deal or locker room cancer?

I want that dude to get paid for all he went through with his shitty family.

Yeah, that's a good point, and the Pens making a bad decision is a double win.

Tavares narrows it down to three teams? (Islanders, Sharks, Leafs).
Caps finally announce promotion of Todd Reirden to head coach

I'm about 90 or so percent certain that it's going to be Vegas that works out the deal with Ottawa for Karlsson and the deal will include Ryan and his albatross of a contract, so given that hopefully Vegas doesn't give up too much in return.

That's a pretty clear indication Theodore is off the table in the return Ottawa would get from Vegas. Given that, assume it would be a package of picks and unfortunately probably either Cody Glass or Nick Suzuki since I can't imagine Ottawa will do a deal without getting at least a prospect who will be ready this year or next in return. Also, assumes Vegas will probably have an extension for Karlsson already worked out.
Still, I hope Vegas isn't bidding for him against themselves. No harm in letting Ottawa squirm for a little bit to try and get the price down. There's no real deadline for Vegas to get the deal done, but Ottawa needs to get it done to wash their hands of this whole debacle and to try and work out in FA who they'll try to get to play D next year.

Reaves reportedly re-signing with VGK. I’m underwhelmed but I’m presuming it’s on the cheap and guessing he’ll be the 13th or 14th forward most nights.

Vegas vastly overpaid for Reaves, but on the bright side they shouldn't need the cap room this year or next.

Yeah, normally that’s bad, but if they think something is there, whatever. They can afford the signing and can afford the bailout if they choose to.

Perron gets 4/$16M from STL. Good for him. Know he wanted a longer term deal and he’s still well liked by Blues fans.

Per Dreger, Stastny to Vegas. 3 years, unknown money right now.
So basically just traded Perron for Stastny from opening night rosters last year. Win: VGK.

Big win. Seeing 3yr/19.5M.
At this point I would assume EK is only other big target. I would love to see him here but have drifted into your camp that we can't part with our top prospects.

Vegas still needs to spend at least $1M to get to the salary floor.

I’ve been wearing out the refresh button on twitter for the last 24 hours. Lots of people speculating it is down to the Leafs or the Sharks.

Ultimate coach’s pet (he plays the right side!) who probably blocks a better but less proven option.

But Stastny is my favorite value signing so far. I’d prefer him to JVR anyway.

Fortunately Vegas doesn’t really have any of those guys at D (yet) except maybe Whitecloud and I’m pretty sure he really probably needs a year in the AHL. So I don’t think he’s blocking anyone this year. Next year a different story for sure. This is basically a straight up improvement/replacement for Sbisa at bottom pair D.
