Speaking of which, did anyone else notice how completely fucked up the sound was during the final round of the US Open on Fox?

Heavy buzzing sounds, and it sounded like random spectators were micced up. Just awful.

i remember fox having this sound problem with the 2015 women's world cup which was one of the many things that concerned me about their product for this world cup (in comparison to espn's stellar presentation in brazil), but up until today, it seemed to be going ok. just ok.

OH MY GOD, YESSS!!

I meant to bring it up over here but Father's Day activities took over (beer-->wine-->sleep) and I forgot.

What struck me the most was just how much shit talking spectators were doing. It was so incredibly distracting and holy shit, what a bunch of assholes at Shinicock.

I don't really care where you are, it's just ridiculous when a guy is trying to win a golf tournament, let alone the US Open to shout "Hey Brooks, nice biceps!" in snarky way as he's approaching the t-box. WTF is wrong with people? You're heckling these guys? This isn't the fucking Ryder Cup (which, btw, that shit has gotten way out of hand, too) what is your point?

I don't like people.

Goalie question I meant to ask earlier: Would there be any logic/gains to having the goalie play 8 feet off the "pull side" (I don't know what that's called in soccer) and basically defend only 16 feet and hope some level of mindfuck or bad form would keep the far 8 feet from being automatic?

And since the goal, Iran is attacking and looks dangerous, quality play.

Just play that way with a defensive mindset from the jump. Put at least one fucking guy up high on their back line. So frustrating.

I'm going to need some MS Paint diagram to respond.

Some underdogs simply can not be cheered for.

Although... I may be cheering for them against Portugal.

Portugal is a lovely country, and they treated me like gold when I was there (as a poor student). But one Pepe = Hezbollah.

Tough call in that game.

Last few minutes of this AUS-DEN game is a pretty good show of what soccer can be like if both teams are actually trying to score.

Guerrero got a yellow card for arguing. He wanted a foul for Umtiti grabbing his shirt first.

They should have both gotten yellows.

I'm dipping in and out here at work, so I missed that.

Possession doesn't tell the whole story, but Peru held the advantage 25-20. France is a damn fun team on the counter. Be a shame if Peru is bounced, but they should be proud of the way they are bringing it. Very pacy, lots of skill, switching the point of attack very quickly.

It seems so strange that with all the attacking talent France have, it's the slower Giroud who makes such a difference. They just play off him so well.

Assume a right footed shot, you're facing the goal ...

Normal: |1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|9|8|7|6|5|4|3|2|1|

What If: |1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|9|8|7|6|5|4|3|2|1|

Would it be wrong to think if you're covering only 6 feet to either side, you'd be able to react later and truly cover the 12 feet, atleast far more so than now when its just a guess and dive? Or would any gains in that 2/3 zone be negated by the ease of hitting the outer 1/3? Or would it really just give Mr. Kicker 12 feet to hammer through?

Is Peru better than most of the other non-factors or is France being incredibly passive?

France is passively protecting what they have. A draw actually suits them just fine so with the lead, why take any chances and risk giving up 2?

I'm not sold on VAR, but if they start using it to give yellow cards for diving after the fact, then I'm all-in. That will have a positive effect on the game.

That would be a good use of VAR, but only if you fill the replay booth with 50-60 year old baseball writers.

Hard for me to process that, having been drilled on and then coaching how to play angles as a goalie most of my life. I have a 1pm meeting, I'll come back to explain what you are traditionally supposed to do and why suggestion is problematic... maybe.
