I'm lifting my self imposed embargo on posting here about the Lightning's season. I didn't want to jinx anything (still don't), but fuck me, this team has been amazing. I can't believe they were able to weather the Vasilevskiy injury in the fashion that they did.
Kucherov is the first player to hit 70 points by game 43 since Jagr did it in 99-00.

Yeah, I was trying to draw you out the other day. :-)

The Bolts barely missed a beat with Louie freaking Domingue at goalie. They are a dominant team.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:12 pm I'm lifting my self imposed embargo on posting here about the Lightning's season. You guys are leaning on the cap, right? I'm betting more talent than usual goes at the deadline which, in theory, could fuck things up for you?govmentchedda wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:12 pm I'm lifting my self imposed embargo on posting here about the Lightning's season. Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Yeah, there's a lot of sellers this year but I doubt it matters much to TB short of an injury. I'm presuming they'll have to stand pat more or less, but no reason to add a piece unless it's something specific considering they almost have the Presidents Trophy locked up at this point.mister d wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:38 pmYou guys are leaning on the cap, right? Return on sellers like NYR might be smaller than some past years. Though obviously it depends on how many players are moved and to whom.
From a VGK perspective I expect GMGM to make some moves, but I'd rather he didn't, at least not for anything more than a second rounder. I would like to see them pick up a second-pairing type defenseman, but would hope the price for that wouldn't be too high.

Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Yeah, its a shitty year to be a seller. Normally Hayes, especially at retained money, would be a massive piece to hold but this year he won't even be the top C to get dealt.
Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Sharks currently have three top-six defensemen out injured. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pick up a rental D-man.

Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
I don't expect the Bolts to make a move, absent a major injury. Brisebois mentioned that early in the season he'd been thinking that he'd keep his eyes open for a D man before the trade deadline, but Cernak has been fantastic.mister d wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:38 pmYou guys are leaning on the cap, right? We're OK capwise now, again barring major injuries (although doesn't moving an injured player to IR help?). The big cap crunch for the team comes in the offseason. Point comes off his ELC this offseason, and he's due for a massive raise. Stralman, Coburn, and Girardi are all UFAs after the season. I dont' see Girardi coming back, even though he's been serviceable this year. I've been very impressed with Coburn this year. He's a big guy that for some reason seems like he's figured out how to skate in the offseason, and he regularly joins the rush. The other cap issue that needs monitoring is that Vasy comes off his bridge deal after next season.

Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Yeah, from what I've seen and my admittedly basic to average understanding of the cap Tampa should be fine even with the guys they need to sign but I wouldn't think they'll have the space to be in the running for any of the big FAs coming up. Could be a surprisingly talented class of FAs this year depending on decisions by some guys like Karlsson, Stone, etc. Even if Panarin to NYR is the done-iest done deal there is the rest of the FA class is pretty damn good as well. Good offseason to have some cap room and knocking at the door of being a contender.

Yeah, the first goal was a fluke deflection. The next six San Jose goals were not flukes.

Its super weird that the 2019 draft is shaping up *exactly* like the 2016 one, right? Long hyped American center long thought to be in his own tier at the top being gained on by a dynamic Finnish wing who eventually becomes the 1B and atleast in the conversation for top overall.

They gap is widening now. 3rd place San Jose is 11 points ahead of 4th place Anahiem
I think it's crucial for the Flames to finish 1st. They are inexperienced in the playoffs so I believe they can beat one of Vegas/San Jose but not both.
I'm not sure which dynamic winger i like more. I watched the World Juniors and was really impressed with the Russian Podkolzinmister d wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 10:25 am Its super weird that the 2019 draft is shaping up *exactly* like the 2016 one, right? One thing I just read in Pierre LeBrun's column is that Karlsson can't sign an 8-year extension until after the trade deadline, not Jan. 1 so if he's going to extend that's when it'll happen.

Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Trouble in Columbus. Some issue between Bobrovsky and the team. My guess is that it might involve his handling by Tortorella.
Because Tortorella is a known lunatic.
Because Tortorella is a known lunatic.
The Athletic wrote:...Citing an “incident” that “failed to meet expectations and values” of the organization, the Blue Jackets on Thursday told Bobrovsky to stay away from the club while it prepared to play Nashville in Nationwide Arena.
A meeting is planned before the Blue Jackets practice on Friday, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. If the meeting goes well, Bobrovsky could be on the ice for practice and with the team when they travel to play Washington on Saturday.
If not …
“I’m not going to speculate on any of that until we resolve the issue,” Kekalainen told The Athletic. “We’ll meet before the practice (Friday) and deal with it.
“There are certain values and expectations we have for the players, no matter who it is. If you don’t live up to them, there are going to be consequences.”
Sources told The Athletic that the incident happened sometime between the latter stages of Tuesday’s 4-0 loss in Tampa Bay and before the team flew home from Tampa International Airport an hour or so after the game.
Before the Blue Jackets boarded their charter flight to Columbus, Bobrovsky was pulled aside for a meeting on the tarmac with members of the Blue Jackets’ leadership group, suggesting the incident happened at the rink or on the bus ride from the rink to the airport.
Blue Jackets players all complied with strict orders from management not to discuss the Bobrovsky situation when the dressing room opened after Thursday’s morning skate.
Bobrovsky was pulled from Tuesday’s game after allowing the fourth goal at 8:53 of the third period, the second time in three starts and the fourth time this season that he’s been pulled.
Rather than stay on the bench with his teammates — as Bobrovsky has typically done after being pulled — he went directly to the dressing room. He was not seen in the bench area for the rest of the game...

San Jose getting the worst goaltending in the NHL. What are the chances SJ is in the mix if Columbus moves him?

I'd be very happy if he got shipped out of the Metro, thank you very much.

Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Yeah, it's a wonder that the team has such a good record with a season-long team save percentage below .900. That is epically bad.
But, Martin Jones has been much better lately, so I don't think he is going anywhere. The backup, Aaron Dell is surely on thin ice. At the very least, I think he's gone next season, as the Sharks have a young stud goaltender in the AHL.
I don't know if the Sharks can afford Bobrovsky though. He's got a big contract so there would be cap issues, plus Columbus would surely want some quality pieces in return.

Re: 2018-2019 NHL Season
Yeah, if they got Bobrovsky it would probably be as essentially just a rental for the playoffs then let him go to FA. If Dell clears waivers, that's great for SJ if he doesn't arguably not the end of the world. Jones would still be expected to be the guy next season and with his contract they have little other choice.
But I hear you on the cap implications. I don't think the price would be too high though. Most contenders are well-set at G, though injuries could change that. Still think if Bobrovsky gets moved it will only be if a contender has a #1 G go down with a season-ending injury and probably still right before the trade deadline at that. If no one gets injured and CLB decides to move him they're not gonna get much.

Within one week, the Sharks ended two different 7-game win streaks. (Tampa Bay's and Vegas's).

Not to be overly hyperbolic, but the Carey Price deal was the worst deal in the history of professional sports, right?

Vegas just got fucked on a review for kicking the puck into the net which should be allowed anyway.
