LeBron missing those OT free throws was a classic “ball don’t lie” scenario after the refs let him get away with pulling a Chris Webber at the end of regulation.

Yeah, he’s a monster. When he’s healthy, he’s definitely a top-5 player in the league. And he’s probably up there with James Harden as the most valuable regular season player, since LeBron coasts in the regular season and the Warriors could lose either Durant or Curry and still be better than almost any other team.

If that’s the case, it’s awfully risky letting him go to Toronto where he could make the Finals and then get a larger contract then anywhere else. Keep in mind that Kawhi has virtually zero endorsements, which may give the salary benefit of staying with the Raptors extra significance. The ideal plan for the Lakers would have been pairing LeBron with Kawhi and Paul George, but they’ve already lost one of those guys by keeping their powder dry when they could have traded for him.

It'll probably all end in tears for Raptors fans with Leonard hightailing it out of here come June, so I am going to enjoy the hell out of this season.

Either way, the Celtics are nowhere near the slam-dunk East favorite that they were hyped as all offseason. Toronto and Milwaukee have the two best players in the Conference and are both very real threats to win the East.

25th anniversary of the only athlete to ever have a platinum selling album.

That's right. It's Shaq.

In my memory, just about every single fucking dude on my floor in college had this album and played it constantly.

I know a lot of people don't like the Warriors, but they are a fun-loving group who play a style of team game that maximizes touches and assists. I guess it's easier to be a team guy when your team is so damned good. If you can get past the other stuff, they are a fun team to root for. At least I think so.

Ty Lue fired in Cleveland. You could say it’s harsh to fire a guy with three conference championships and an NBA title to his name, but I really think Lue was one of the worst coaches in the NBA. Either way, seeing how awful the Cavs are this season cements in my mind that LeBron’s performance in last year’s playoffs was one of the most incredible individual runs I’ve ever seen. He single-handedly made the difference between worst team in the NBA and Eastern Conference champion. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another team sports athlete with that kind of value.

And to SC’s last post, my point about LeBron relates to why so many people dislike the Warriors. They are loaded with high-end talent but on some level all those guys are superfluous. Take any individual player (including Curry or Durant) off last year’s Warriors team and they’re still heavily favored in a series against every team besides Houston.

(Also, Draymond is one of the dirtiest players in the league; and Curry is an extreme showboater in a way that would get LeBron all kinds of shit.)

Klay Thompson just broke the NBA record for 3s in a game. In 27 minutes of playing time.

The best part is that the warriors were in fuck around and get Klay the record mode and it was early in the 3rd quarter.

Based on what I’ve read about the intrateam dynamics, Curry and Thompson are a virtual lock to stay long term. I think it’ll be one or both of the Nike guys (Durant and Green) that leaves, with Durant the most likely. I really think Durant is gone in 2019 or 2020 and will go to a big market East team and try to dominate the conference like LeBron did from 2010-2018. Fair or not, a lot of fans will always perceive his move to Golden State as taking the easiest possible route to titles. (And it was.)

I had the Golden State game on last night on the pass, and there really is no good way (or any way?) to deal with their offense. It's obscene how good they are.

Play defense?

Yes, it’s as simple as “playing defense” to slow a team with 3 outside shooters as good as Curry, Thompson and Durant. The only viable strategy is to play like the Rockets did in Games 4-5 before CP3 got hurt and turn the game into a slow placed, ugly rock fight. But even if things bog down, Durant is one of the best isolation scorers ever.

Seriously, ever since they’ve had Curry and Durant, their offensive efficiency has been not just good, but historically great, in every playoff series other than the Houston one. But surely all those other teams and their coaches just weren’t even trying to play defense.
