Halloween 2018

So who's got some good ideas and/or plans?

Normally we do a party up with her friends in CT that's always themed, but she had plans to see Wanda Sykes without checking the calendar. And I was pretty disappointed. The theme this year was Song Titles, so my idea was to go to the thrift shop and get a massively oversized tan suit, make up my face like a crazy clown, carry around a fake blood-stained machete and go as "Psycho Killer" by The Talking Heads.

Anyway, I also dress up to bring my little guys around. My daughter who read the first Harry Potter is obsessed with Hermione, so she's going to do that with Little Man going as Harry. So to stay with the theme, I'll go as Snape. I even ordered a prosthetic hook nose, but I've never used one before so I'll need to learn how to attach it and then the proper make up.

Halloween is probably my least favorite "occasion" of the entire year. Can't stand it.

I like that the neighborhood gets outside and is pretty social for Halloween. Will take that over St. Patty's day 10 times out of 10.

Oh and I don't like people who try to move trick or treating to another day of the week. Go on the 31st or don't go at all

Yeah, well some of us live in cities where women dress like hookers only one day a year, not all 365.

Wife and I do 3 weeks of halloween. Decorate the house starting on the 10th, buy the chocolates to eat throughout the month, and start three weeks of halloween-themed tv and movies. I have flash drive with halloween episodes from any show we've ever watched. So far watched all the Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors, started into other sitcom ones now.
Plus we're watching every movie in the horror category on HBO on demand*. In fact tonight we're doing a drinking game with Friday the 13th part 4, 5, 6, and 7 (guess total death count, drinks for stupid decisions, deaths, and boobs).

No costumes though as we don't know anyone here and don't get any trick or treaters.

*This was HBO GO (canada) so not sure if this is available in the states, but a movie called Raw was the most fucked up thing we've seen so far this year. Other entertaining ones: Totem, Don't Kill It, Devil in the Dark. Lots of terrible ones in this genre though.

I've posted this in the past, but I'll again note that Halloween is unfuckingbelievable in our neighborhood. We get about 600-700 kids trick-or-treating Halloween evening, based on the amount of candy we give out. We always run out.

The reason lies on the next street over. Our street and that street each only go for two blocks. That street has historically gone bonkers crazy for extravagant Christmas decorations and now they've extended it to include Halloween, too. It gets written up in the San Francisco and San Jose newspapers. So, tons of people come here from miles away to see the displays on that street, and of course they bring their kids here to do their trick-or-treating. The fact that it is a fairly affluent area with flat terrain and houses close together also factors into how many kids we get. Just about everybody hereabouts realized years ago that you'd be answering your door constantly, so we (and most others in the neighborhood) set up a table on the driveway, invite friends over and have drinks and a little party as we give out candy.

Annnnnnnnnd.... we're drunk.

Objective realization: No one was attractive in the 80's. It can't just be bias to what I grew up with, all these supposed 20-something actresses look like they're 40.

Brother in law and I seriously considered dressing up as Don Jr and Eric. Instead I won’t do anything. I love Halloween, and agree that it’s way better than st pats.

So true. In my single days, Halloween was the greatest day of the year. Girls dressed all slutty, I dressed in a pimp costume, and for one day, it was ok to act like a complete lecher, and most single girls played along. Converted my wife from a hookup to a girlfriend on Halloween. I invited her to a party, and when she asked me what to wear, I jokingly told her to wear the sluttiest thing she could find. She did, and the rest is history.

Now, my son usually goes out with a group of friends in their neighborhood, we go to a party at a neighbors house who has a son my daughters age, and trick or treat with a group of 10 or so families. Great food and beer, and most of the fathers bring beer for the road, so it's always a good time.

You should sell that script to the Hallmark Movie channel. You're such a romantic!

But then a sluttier costume opened up across the street and I was going to lose the slutty costume that was in my family for 4 generations but then I learned that if I loved myself enough and trusted Syb, everything would work out for the best in an hour and 45 minutes.

Marc-Andre Fleury and his wife won Halloween again by the way. Her pregnant/"beer belly" was the coup de grace.

Disappointingly, on Hallmark her outfit would be Saucy Farmer Girl, and she'd be in a flannel shirt and way too big overalls. That channel is run by mormons (or some such nonsense.)

A decade of Shrek cosplay on Halloween de-sensitized us to the real issues inherent with greenface.

On the Vegas Strip, one sees a fair number of tourists who look a bit like that.

Was at a wake last night. It was a really beautiful event and the family did a great job focusing on her long and happy life, but it’s hard to say the whole thing wasn’t somewhat marred by the couple who inexplicably came dressed as “sexy coal miners”.

Did the now traditional 'Trick-Or-Treat" for grown-ups again this year.

Its amazing how appreciative parents are for a dixie cup of frozen margarita (made with cheap tequila)....

Other than the fact that I spent the afternoon making potato soup, and it ended up not being soup weather, it was a perfect night weather-wise in NJ last night.

Get off my lawn moment of the night (figuratively) - we had a group of 15-20 kids, and they decided about 1/2 way through that they were all thirsty and we had to detour back to our house so they could grab some water. Who da fuck gives time collecting free candy because they're thirsty? I'm pretty sure my youngest started it, too.

Same on the water. And most kids around here like giving out the candy as much as collecting which is weird as hell. And and if your 2nd grader is Nancy Drew, don't make a "Nancy Drew and the mystery of ..." joke with a half hour to go because kids need far less time to beat any joke into the ground.

The fifth grader only went to a handful of houses and then spent most of the time handing out candy with the Mrs. and myself. We had a busy night, as the weather was very nice in northern IN.

Lots of great costumes this year.
