The Swamp

So, I'll probably spend more time than I need explaining what this is, but so be it.

As part of a work project to help test some of our newest email capability, but also with the idea that we can finally cultivate a useful list of email addresses to be able to communicate to all Swampers at once if necessary (or those who WANT to be notified at least, consider filling out this quick easy form below:

There are two checkboxes, consider the first one for breaking news alerts like if the Swamp is down and we wanted to just notify everyone via email right away we would use that list.

The second box is for sending a semi-regular update. If and when I get around to doing it for real it would be a maximum of probably two messages a month at most, possibly scaling up if we actually have stuff it makes sense to share together via email (the idea is that eventually maybe even one or two others could get access to the tool my company makes and use it to send a semi-regular "newsletter" though again "newsletter" might be overstating it, especially at first.

It's completely optional of course. If you don't want to share your email then don't.

A few other things.

This list will NEVER be used for anything other than Swamp-related messages (which at first might include a few test messages but that will eventually taper off and stop. All test messages will be labeled as such in the subject line.) It won't be shared with any third parties and nothing will be done with any of these emails which would violate CAN SPAM or any other relevant national or international law.

If you are going to do this, I'm going to ask to use your "real" information (i.e. birthdate, postal code, etc.). At first at least only I would have access to this information, but it would never be shared outside of any Swampers who might one day have admin privileges for sending emails through the tool.

There was a bit of logic there, but it's probably not necessary for anything we'd want to do. (There are automated birthday emails that can be configured, but I doubt we'd have much use for those.)

Couple of other things -- I won't leave this as a Sticky-ed post forever -- I'm not a huge fan of those myself, but would like to for another a month or so.

However, if you want to share the link with a lurking Swamper or someone who isn't around much and you already know their email address, there is a link within the signup to share via email so they can choose if they want to signup themselves.

I use a fake birthday on the web anyway.

If you still have one of your emails from TurdRyan's Swampcrashes, you can see a ton of email addresses there. Might want to ask permissions tho.

Yeah, that's why I'm doing it this way. It complies with all relevant laws if users opt-in themselves. It should only take less than a minute though for those who want to do it. (In theory someone like Rerun Dave or someone with admin access -- maybe even me! -- could just run a report of email addresses users used to create their Swamp account though I don't remember if email address was required. I assume it was. But I can't legally send an email from within my company's tool using that list.

One other thing -- once any real messages start flying there WILL be an option to opt yourself out of both lists directly from the emails themselves.

So you will always easily have the option to no longer receive any messages if you choose to do so.

Yeah, that's cool. I'm a little bummed the mobile site ain't loading. It should be mobile-enabled. But if that's easier go for it.

Mobile seemed to work fine for me.

Thanks for the response thus far, guys. I think this might really come in handy someday.

For now, I'll leave this link up for the rest of the month as a sticky and then let it go its course. Sometime in a week or two I might send a couple of test messages which like I said will be marked as such.

Fixed. It was technically there, but there was a lot of garbage at the top because of some testing was I was doing so required scrolling down.
